Question about Akai PT5598HD 55" Rear Projection HDTV-Ready Television

Snowy Screen Good afternoon! I have Direct TV. I have had Direct TV for almost two years now and the picture was always not quite perfect. Recently, the picture just simply went out. Very, very snowy and you can even here that we don't have reception with a static noise. I have called Direct TV. They said that it was not them, that it is the TV. We have a HDTV TV but don't have a HDTV box for the satelite. They said all we have to do is lower the settings on the TV. Is this true? If, so can you help? One more thing. I don't have a control for the TV no more. If I need to purchase one to fix this, please tell me how. Thanks! Any help is appreciated!

Sounds to me like you using coax wire from your dtv. how about trying s-video and audio cables. if using coax, then your prob using the push on wire that came with the sat. these go bad all the time.

Sony 43"/projection (older) suddenly after 18 years has a snowy and less than perfect picture. It will "pop slightly" and the picture will come back to perfect. Any clue?

Your picture tubes are failing. There are no parts available for this TV and your money is better spent on a new flat panel. That is the grid guns starting to short out.

No digital picture on digital TV

Are you getting a snowy picture, If so, you`re still on analogue. If you are on a digital channel with say no signal, you should get a blank screen with either a message saying no signal or a dot on the screen. Ian

Vs 6041 - no picture day 2 days after installing direct tv

Is it only the input that has the direct tv connected to it that has no picture, or do you have no picture at all on any inputs? If you are able to watch a dvd on say AV1 or input 1 but have no picture on the other input that has the direct tv box connected to it I would call direct tv and have them look at your box. If you have no picture at all then it is your tv. and it being 10 years old it is almost a natural failure a strange occurrence that being it happen right after you got satellite.

Snowy picture

Hi,

A snowy video indicates that your input signal is relatively weak. On the other hand, a noisy picture is when there are too much interference is super imposing on the video.

Snowy picture comes about when the signal coming in the RF INput (Ant/Cable) at the back of the unit is below a certain level. If this is the case, then it is not a problem with your TV but rather your aerial (antenna) or the cable from your provider. A way to verify that it is the ant/cable that is the cause and not a defective TV/tuner is to hook up an old VCR set to Ch. 3 or 4 to the RF IN of your TV using a short 75 ohms coaxial cable terminated at both ends with FP-5 connector. Play a known clear good tape and set your TV to Ch. 3 or 4 as the case maybe. If the picture is relatively clearer, better, then you have just confirmed that it is indeed your aerial or your cable (provider) that needs looking into. If on the other hand, the VCR signal is also snowy then chances are that you have a problem with the input stage of your TV including possibly your tuner.

For your aerial problem, antenna orientation or replacing with a higher gain antenna might help solve the snowy signal. For your cable problem, you have to call-in for service from your cable provider. If it is a TV problem, your best course would be to seek the services of a qualified TV technician since this involve electronic circuitry analysis, diagnosis and possible component replacements.

Additionally, you may try looking for any loose connection, loose grounding, broken wire or anything out of the ordinary in your connections.

Hope that this be of some help/idea. Pls post back how things turned out or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

yes it could ba the cable itself even, but i suspect more the tuner circuit or tuner itself may have bad solder connections. Here is another test for you to try, plug another dvd or vcr, or xbox etc. into the back, using one odf the inputs. See if this works like the built in dvd. if so it will be more likely bad connections in the tuner or surrounding circuit. good luck.
