Either 2 or 4 screws on the bottom of carb, remove them and the cover and you will see needle and seat. Remove one screw and needle will come out, There is a small spring under needle idler arm, do not lose it...
Be sure to mark which fuel lines go where before removing carb.

I've never heard of reworking a needle seat. It would be a lot less agravation to just buy a new carberator, unless you just enjoy fooling around with this stuff. Errrrr, those carbs cost about 35 bucks.

I had the very same problem. Here's what i did. I used a samll drill and by hand, turned it on the bottom of the seat untill i could see a shiney mark all the way around the seat. Kinda like polishing a valve in. This worked great for me, but i did have a larger carberator to work with. Go slow and only take enough out to see a shiney spot all the way around.

I have no leaks, and saved 175 bucks for not having to buy a new carb.

    good luck

You have done and are doing exactly what is necessary to solve your problem.
Lastly: remove your carburetor and clean it thoroughly using carburetor cleaner available at most auto parts stores. Replace the diaphragm and metering diaphragm. Diaphragms become stiff with age and with modern fuels and will not pull enough of a fuel-charge into the combustion chamber.

Must run choke on all the time with troy bilt gas blower: 50:1

First I would check your fuel filter in the tank. They use a sintered type that clogs easily then allows dirt to get into the internal screen in the Zama carb, if the filter is clean and whole I suggest to take the carb out and clean it. Remenber to only use starting fluid to clean the internal parts, as carb cleaner will melt the internal check valves and ruine the carb. Dont be afraid to take the carb apart, its not brain surgery, just start with a nice clean shop cloth and lay it out as you take it apart. The screen I am referring to is on the metering diaphragm side, thats the side with one screw on it

Need the carburetor assembly manual

It is either a Walbro or a Zama carb. I think both mfrgs have a website w/ parts breakdowns. But both carbs are the same as to the placement of diaphragms + gaskets. On the side with the inlet needle the gasket goes on first and then the metering diaphragm. On the fuel pump side the diaphragm goes against the carb body and then the gasket before the cover.

Have to start on starting fluid, won't stay running. have replaced gas line and filter and primer bulb. What next?

You will have to pull your head to see if the valves are seating. If the exhaust valve is not seating it will send blow back through the carb.

Troy Bilt in Hell String Trimmer TB465SS Running Problem

You need to clean the carb. or you may need to buy a carb. kit. But do a cleaning on it first. If you need tips on how to best do this, just let me know. Also check the fuel lines for cracks. As they age, they become brittle.

I have a Troy Bilt weed eater and am having a problem. It starts with the choke on, but it will not run with the choke off.

Ths problem is possibly indicating the need for a new fuel pump diaghram in the Zama carburetor. A carb rebuild kit installed correctly should alleviate this problem and greatly improve throttle response on the unit. The ethanol in the fuel nowadays plays havoc on carb parts and they become less flexible and more brittle, thus affecting performance and leading to problems with throttle response and carburetor functions such as this.

Trimmer is flooding.

It appears that the carb is not functioning properly. Sounds like the needle is not seating properly. It will need cleaning or repair.
