It sounds to me like a Hdd failure ...If it is actually loading the primary files..and when it is suppose to start windows and display the agreement is stopping ..it is kinda odd...cause it should not have to do this until you actually try to make an operation in concern with the Hdd..I mean actually try to format the hdd or look for previous installations..
so ..you have a chance ..Keep trying ...and change the disk ...maybe the boot-able xp you are using is damaged...I had issues like this before...and if it isnt loading all files from it ..it can not start (initiate ) the windows after loading files ..
to try this ..I will link here a image with xp...down-loadable with utorrent (or any other torrent client) and burn it on a cd-r with Nero...but initiate the burn from double click on the image ..to be sure it will be botable..
After that if you know the disk is perfect you try again and again until you will force the system ...I believe that if you format the drive ..it ill work ..
if it doesnt..thi sis the next step...get a way to connect t to a computer (a rack or an adapter ) and format it clean ..after you retrieve the files you need from it ..) after formatting ...check the Ram memory ...cause this may be an issue too ..and re try to install ..
a way to by pass all these..if it will not install itself ..is to insert it in a similar laptop..and install a clean xp in there ..remove it and insert in on yours and try to boot..
it will work but it will re-detect all devices attached again ..

I would be willing to bet that your hard drive has gone out. This frozen screen usually means hard drive is bad at the boot sector.Take your hard drive to certified repair shop for testing.

NTLDR compressed on a Compaq Presario SR105CL cant enter bios to set to boot

Step 1:
Which operating system ?

Computer is booting from a non-bootable source. Computer hard disk drive is not properly setup in BIOS. Corrupt NTLDR and NTDETECT.COM file. Misconfiguration with the boot.ini file. Attempting to upgrade from a Windows 95, 98, or ME computer that is using FAT.32 New hard disk drive being added. Corrupt boot sector / master boot record. Seriously corrupted version of Windows 2000 or Windows XP. Loose or Faulty IDE/EIDE hard disk drive cable. Failing to enable USB keyboard support in the BIOS. Many times this error is caused when the computer is attempting to boot from a non-bootable floppy disk or CD ROM First verify that no Floppy Diskette or CD is in the computer, unless you are attempting to boot from a diskette. b> Note: This error has also been known to occur when a memory stick is in a card reader and the computer is attempting to boot from it. If you have any card reader or flash reader make sure that no memory stick is inside the computer. Additionally disconnect all USB drives, cameras, ipods, iphones, etc. from the computer. If you are attempting to BOOT from a floppy diskette and are receiving this error message it is likely that the diskette does not have all the necessary files or is corrupt. If you are attempting to install Windows XP or Windows 2000 and are receiving this error message as the computer is booting verify that your computer BIOS has the proper boot settings. For example, if you are attempting to run the install from the CD-ROM make sure the CD-ROM is the first boot device, and not the hard disk drive. Second, when the computer is booting you should receive the below prompt. Press any key to boot from the CD

I have a presario 1235 laptop with windows 98 I am trying to put a new hard drive in and windows XP it runs through the setup then when it comes to the blue page it says setup is starting windows that is...

I have had this happen several times with XP Pro, I just kept trying. It once took 4 attempts, but it finally took. Make sure the disk is free of debris, and if it's a new disk, you may need to take it back to the store you bought it from

Windows will not start

You might have either a bad hard drive or a corrupted Windows installation (which could be due to a bad hard drive). You can try starting Windows in safe mode (press the F8 key when the Compaq logo comes up after you turn the power on, and pick Safe Mode from the list of startup options) if it will let you. Then try scanning the disk for errors.

You can also try using the Windows recovery console (assuming you have XP) to repair your installation. Boot the computer from the Window operating system CD (Compaq systems came with one; if you don't have one you can probably borrow one from somebody). After setup loads everything it needs you pick the "R" option to try repairing Windows. The "chkdsk /r" command sometimes is able to correct problems so that Windows can start again.

If necessary you can try restoring the original software, and replacing the hard drive if the disk problems continue.

Not able to open windows

Sounds like a hard Drive problem. A virus actually. The Best thing to do if Safe Mode Failed is the Repair Your system, to do this insert your XP CD and wait until it says 'Press any key to boot CD' Press any key and follow instructions to repair windows. If it works, run a virus scan immediately. If Not, take it itno a computer technitian to look at it if you want the stuff on your Hard Drive, of if you feel you don't care too much just wipe the Hard Drive and Re-Install Windows XP. just do the same thing as repair but instead follow the instructions for Installing XP and choose either Clear or Erase Hard drive if you don't want the info or choose don't clrear or Erase if you really want stuff from your hard drive, But run a Virus scan Immediately asap.

Hope This Helps

Having problems with my compaq Persario 2500

this problem occurs when you try to update drivers in the computer..sometimes windows XP cannot update the driver and that corrupts system.ini file as it has a lot of bad entries..Due to this you will get this error mesage..No its not due to virus.its due to an attempt to change system.ini file

Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt: \WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\SYSTEM

That means the System Registry Hive has become corrupted.

There are two ways to get back up and running. The easy way which doesn't always work, and then there is the hard way.

Easy Way --- Note that this doesn't always work.
When you are booting your system, press the F8 key during the start of the bootup sequence, meaning after it does the Power On Self Test.

Once you press the F8 key, you will be taken to a Menu. Select "Boot Using Last Known Good Configuration".

It will now attempt to load Windows XP using a past set of configuration files.

If that doesn't work, there is the next step....the hard way.

Hard Way
Boot your system with the Windows XP Install CD, let the system boot into the Setup. Once in the Setup, choose to run the Recovery Console.

You will now be presented with a screen similar to good old DOS.

First, we will recover the System Hive.

Now, type in the following commands with pressing Enter after each line.

md tmp
copy C:\windows\system32\config\system C:\windows\tmp\system.bak
delete C:\windows\system32\config\system
copy C:\windows\repair\system C:\windows\system32\config\system

Be very careful when you are typing in these commands, one wrong move, and you have, broken Windows XP.

Also, change the C in the commands to whatever your Windows XP drive letter is.

Attempt to boot the system, if it doesn't boot, get back into the Recovery Console and do the following commands.

md tmp
copy C:\windows\system32\config\software C:\windows\tmp\software.bak
delete C:\windows\system32\config\software
copy C:\windows\repair\software C:\windows\system32\config\software
