Refer to page 15 of the manual - http://www.singerco.com/accessories/manuals.html

Before changing the tension settings, be sure to thead the machine with the presser foot up as this also has a tremendous effect on the tension and formation of the stitch.

How do I set the bobbin tension

How to change the tension on a sewing machine?
Adjust your top tension if it's too tight. To decrease your top tension if it is too tight, turn your knob so the numbers are decreasing. Try ½ to 1 number lower, then test the stitches on a piece of scrap fabric. Continue until it looks even on both sides and you can no longer see the bottom thread on the top.

Loose bobbin tension

the bobbin tension is set by that small spring plate that you pull the thread under after you put the bobbin back in the carrier / holder
a very small turn of that screw makes a big difference ob the tension unlike the needle thread tension
mostly the problem ( you never bothered to mention the symptom ) is bird nesting under the fabric which is the needle thread tension not tight enough

I have a husquavarna 875. the thread is jamming in behind the bobbin. i have re threaded, changed the bobbin and cleaned the bobbin area of any lint or thread. any ideas?

Is the top thread coming down in the rotary hook and then jamming? if so, review the top tension and top threading and see if you've missed a thread eye somewhere, particularly the thread take up lever or if the thread is actually under enough tension on top.

You can test the top tension by lower the pressure foot and then pulling the thread downwards after its feed through the tension device, it should feel firm but give to a firm tug.

If this isn't happening, try rethreading it, cleaning it out and adjusting top tension to get it firmer. Generally 4 is a good setting so just make sure it hasn't been adjusted inadvertently.

There is also good trouble shooting help at http://www.sewusa.com/Sewing_Machine_Repair/Sewing%20Machine%20Troubleshooting.htm which may help you to identify what's causing this problem. Check also that the bobbin is the correct one for your machine, and in and rotating in the right direction. But if it is the top thread jamming into the bobbin race its probably top tension.

My bobbin thread keeps looping and the top looks fine but pulls out easily. I tried adjusting the top tension, but it didn't help. What can I do?

There could be several things that could cause the machine not to pick up the bobbin thread.

1. The upper thread could be tangled. Remove the thread completely from the machine. The correct size spool cap should be used for the size of the thread spool. Re-thread the machine according to the directions in the manual.

2. Remove the bobbin and make sure the bobbin is threaded properly in the shuttle race. Remove any loose threads or lint in the shuttle race.

3. You could be holding the needle thread too tight. Hold the thread lightly to keep the end from going down into the shuttle.

4. The needle could be thread incorrectly. Thread the needle eye from the front to the back.

5. The needle could be bent or improperly inserted. Install a new needle with the flat side of the needle facing the back.

If the problem persists, your machine may require service.

The bobbin thread tension has already been adjusted at the factory for general use. For most applications, no adjustment is needed.

When sewing with then thread on thin fabrics, the thread tension may not be adjusted adequately with the upper tension control dial. Therefore, the thread tension must be adjusted according to the procedure described below.

If bobbin tension is too loose and locks appear on the surface of the fabric, decrease the thread tension by turning the dial to a lower number.

If the result is still not satisfactory, then adjust the bobbin thread tension.

Increase the tension in the bobbin by turning the screw with a small screwdriver in a clockwise direction. However, do not turn the screw more than one full turn.

When you see the bobbin thread on top of the fabric this can be on e of 2 things usually. 1) thath the top thread tension is too tight or that the bobbin thread loose. Remember the saying righty tighty, lefty loosey. If you have adjust the top tension and it has helped just not enough perhaps you need to try the bottom a small screwdriver to turn the little screw on the outside of the bobbincase may do the trick. only small adjustments 1/4 turn at the most at a time to the right to start with.
