Computer shuts down when VCR is set to

Using HP computer with XP Home software and the Dazzle DVD recorder. When the selections are made via menu to prepare for the recording and the VCR is turned to "Play" the computer will shut down either immediateky or it has recorder up to 15 minutes and then shut down.
Shut down refers to the blue screen stating that the system automatically shut down to avoid problems. On restart all else works OK. Norton shows no viruses and Spyware shows no threats and Registry Sweep has cleared out unnessary lines. Any ideas?

I have dazzle DVC 170 Rev. 1.2. this came with the CDs for Windows XP. My new laptop (Compaq 621) is with Windows 7, I downloaded the Instant DVD Recorder. Installed it and then loaded the Pinnacle Studio...

one of the drivers is not compatible or unstable with you system. make sure you have the relevant firmware on your system, update the drivers from the driver menu that is in device manager win 10 its right click on windows logo (start) bottom left and click on the driver and update before using it if no update is available you could try the properties of the software. right click on the icon for the software and menu will pop up go to properties click on that and then go to menu compatibility and click to run on win xp mode or another mode. then press ok.

I have red, white and yellow leads plus an S video going from the Dazzle to the TV and the TV connected to the VCR by a Scart, I record sound but no picture. Am I hooked up correctly and what do I select...

If you are using "Composite" output the leads are red/white = sound. Yellow = video. If you are using S-video cable then yes you will need to select that option in the menu.
Hope this helps, Dave

I need a picture of how to hook up the dazzle to the vcr

If your trying to capture from a vcr make sure that the cables "composite are connected at the back make sure it is plug in to the video out.

Next, connect the cables directly to the dazzle.

make sure that the vcr is on and it is playing.

In the program Instant DVD Recorder please go to the step 1 select the dazzle as your video source not pinnacle file capture.

Then click option check the VHS input.
Video input must be composite if your using the composite
Audio input must be the dazzle.

Dazzle will only rcord 103 minutes and movies are 120

Are you on Windows? What version (XP, 98, Vista, etc?)
What file system are you using (right click on the drive in My Computer and select Properties)

If you are using FAT32, there is a built in limit to 2GB files. If you are finding that your capture is hitting 2GB (=103min?) and then crashing, this may be your problem. Also, consult the capture settings in the Dazzle software and ensure no file size or running time limitation is selected there.
