It might be due to the modem... or due to the belkin router.... the belkin router might not pick up the change in the IP address provided by the ISP to the modem.... if you face such issues, then plug the power cable of both router and modem, wait for 30 secs....plug back the power cable of modem wait for 30 more secs....plug back the power cable of router.... it will get connected...

Simple because the wireless signal strenth is good it doesnt mean that you are conected to the Internet, but you are deffenetely connected to the home network. This allows you to share files and printers but doenst allow you to acess the internet. There is number of reasons why this might be happening. You are either using a modem to connect to the internet or you ar eusing a router. So the answer to your question is there is you dont need to tell if it is one or the other as you only have one of the two. The reason why this is happening it could be un update is runing on your PC/laptop and it is interupting the connection, un update is going through to the router table, or simply the IP address has changed and it hasnt picked it up just run diagnostics or reset the router and it shud solve the problem. Also check to see if you are using sequre connection as someone might be tampering and using your wireless conncetion if it is unidentifyed and nonsequred conncetion. in this case the ISP has protection on most new routers and will shut down the connection as the other person must use the instalation disc to set up the internet acess to your ISP using the wireless connection, or some routers even require you to run the installation disc again and setuop the wireless conncetion again which infact will change the key. Hope this helps

Please assign a static ip address in the range of router's ip address, to the computer. This happens when the computer is trying to renew its dhcp address from the dhcp server (ie. the router).

If the router is about 1-2 years old then this is a typical sign of the wireless section begining to fail on the router. It first shows up periods of slow as small quick interuptions then you may quick disconnects occuring. These will become more frequent and then you will see disconnects on the wired connections just before it goes out totally.

To check out the wireless section just use the wired lan connection for a while. If you do not see any disconnects then your wireless section is failing. If you do see some disconnects it can be from the net or the router. So we now need to hook your laptop or computer direct to the modem using a cable. Again we are watching for disconnects. If we see them now the problem is the cable modem or dls modem and you need to contact your isp. They should be able to view the logs on the modem and tell if the signal is weak and how many disconnect it is having. Depending on who you have they should then replace the modem.

Thats all the things to check for but we have a stack of dead wifis that were fixed by replacing them. I did try to repair one and spent a few days with a service engineer for the company. In the end it was a wasted effort and the company actually took that model off the market a short while afterwards. I wasn't the only one who had the problem.

D-Link, Netgear seem to be the better home quality routers and will give a bit longer service. They also make business class stuff which is really good. About the worst one is LINKS*S. Used to be a big fan of those but they just went downhill a few years back. They seem to die about 5 minutes after the warrenty expires just like clockwork.

Cant get wifi unless I am a couple of inches from router. All other wifi devices work perfectly. I even downloaded the latest driver directly from Intel and problem still exists.

Having a wireless Internet signal in your home allows multiple devices to use the same Internet connection without having to run lengths of Ethernet cable to each device. Given that the wireless network is transmitted over the air, the consistency of your Internet connection depends on the strength of the wireless signal. If wireless signal strength is not strong enough to give you a consistent Internet connection, there are a few simple steps for finding the problem and improving your signal strength.

Reset all devices. The majority of Internet issues, including poor wireless signal strength, are very often solved by a simple power cycle of all the devices in the network. Locate the power cords of both your modem and your wireless router and remove them (if you use a modem/router combination, simply unplug the power to that device). Leave them unplugged for a full 30 seconds, plug them back in and restart your computer. When your computer fully reboots, check your wireless signal strength to see if it has improved. If it has not, further troubleshooting is required. Move your computer closer to your router, or your router closer to your computer. Wireless routers do not have unlimited range. One reason your computer may be getting a weak signal strength from your wireless network could be because your computer is simply outside of the router's range. Typically, ISPs (Internet Service Providers) will install your modem in one specific location in the house and the modem will not work at other locations, so moving the modem or modem/router combination may not be a possibility. If this is the case, you may need to move the computer to a location that is within the range of the wireless router's broadcast. If you still get poor signal strength, your router may be experiencing a malfunction. Contact the technical support department of your router manufacturer. Router malfunctions often are not the result of a bad or broken router, but of something much simpler, such as the router's needing a firmware upgrade or an incorrect setting on the router's internal setup. If your router manufacturer is unable to improve your wireless signal strength, it may be time to purchase a new router. Purchase a new router. Wireless routers are priced in part based on how widely their wireless signal broadcasts (in other words, the more expensive the router you buy, the larger a wireless signal the router will broadcast). Included in the packaging of each wireless router is the approximated range, in square footage, of that router's wireless network. A good rule of thumb is to know the square footage of your house and buy a router that can accommodate that square footage. That way, as long as the router is functioning properly, you will have strong wireless signal strength throughout your entire home.

Connected wireless to router, excellent signal, but unable to connect to internet.

connected to wireless router with excellent signal may not means you are connected to internet. make sure your modem provided by internet service provider has signal! connect your computer to modem directly bypassing router. If you are online that means your internet is functional. Then connect modem to your Linksys router and use your wireless to log on to internet.
Your router wireless signal active and excellent means you are connected to router not necessarily the internet. The modem supplied by your internet service provider with active internet should be connected to you router on WAN port!
good luck!!

I am trying to connect a wrt150n wireless linksys router to my dsl. I am using a desktop windows 7 and laptop windows vista. Please help, I have tried everything but it just does not want to work.

unplug everything, including ethernet cables. then work in this exact order.
if you get a wireless signal and no internet, plug a computer in into the router in one of the available ports and check for internet. If no internet, unplug everything and test the modem without the router. If internet available without the router, then follow these instructions
  1. plug phone line into modem
  2. plug power into modem
  3. wait for all lights to become steady
  4. plug ethernet cable into modem
  5. plug other end of same cable into port labled "internet"
  6. wait for lights to become constant on both router and modem
  7. check your wireless device for wireless service.
if you dont get a wireless signal at all, plug your device into the rear of the router and type 192.168.1.1 in the adress bar
the password and username are both "admin" or simply leave the password blank if that doesn't work

navigate to the wireless option and turn on the wireless transmiter.
GOOD LUCK AND PLS RATE THIS POST!!!!!!

I have tested my internet connection with my ISP and the connection is fine but the signal from my wireless router seems to be the problem. This just started out of the blue (no recent changes). Pages load...

Disconnect the router, and use an Ethernet cable to connect your computer's network-port directly to the cable-modem (or DSL-modem), and try the "performance" of Internet activity.

My wireless ADSL2+ Router is having a problem, The ADSL Blink is going off within a few minutes of Internet use, Could you suggest me a solution?

Please check the following

1) secure cable between modem and router. it must not be loose.
2) secure cable between modem and phone jack. it must not be loose.
3) modem and router must not be near to any electromagnetic devices such as halogen lamps, computer speakers
4) cables must not be intersecting to electrical cable which sometimes cause static signals that interrupts internet signals going to modem or router

No more internet thru router after new modem installed

Router setup
Go to the control panel and un-install the program that the Comcast cd installed. then:
Shutdown your PC. Unplug the power from the router and the cable modem.
Wait 30 sec. then plug in the power to the cable modem, wait 30 sec. then plug the power to the router. Wait till you have "Internet" light then restart your PC. The PC should pick up an IP address and you should be able to get on-line.

Did Comcast reset you wireless router settings? If so, you may need to set up your SSID and security settings.

Customizing Wireless Settings of the Router
Having default wireless settings on the Linksys router may cause conflict with other Linksys routers within your network range. Linksys suggests changing the SSID (network name) and the Wireless Channel of your router. Also, if it is possible, enable the Wireless Security of your router.
To change the router’s SSID or the wireless network’s name, click here.
To change the router’s channel, click here.
To enable the wireless security on the router, click here.
If I could be of further assistance, let me know. If this helps or solves the issue, please rate it.
Thanks, Joe

Need help with best connection type for college student in dorm

The enhaced version just give more range of signal over the normal dynex, regarding the internet provider it depends because sometimes you'll need a password and user to connect to the wireless signal. The dynex is used to connect from a cable signal (RJ-45)internet and then it will transfer the connection to wireless so it can be use from any laptop with wireless connection. So for example you DSL internet connection is a cable (RJ-45) then you connect that cable to the dynex router, then the router will automatically transmit the signal to wireless so any nearby pc can connect to it. If the laptop doesn't have wireless, then you'll have to buy a card to be able to connect to wireless signal or you could by also a (RJ-45 straight-through cable Cat 5e) to connect from one of the ports from the DYNEX to the laptop. Hope it helps.
