Suddenly, my HP L7780 buttons are not working on the control panel and the printer is not being recognized using the wireless network.

I tried as you said (I unplugged the power supply from the unit and unplugged the power cord from the surge protector, waited more than 3 minutes, then replugged both). No resolution.

The display on the printer control panel shows the usual pamphlet graphic and the date and time are correct, but the icons for the ink cartridges and for the wireless connection are not displayed. Also, when I try to use the buttons, on the control panel, they are unresponsive.

I am operating on a Macbook with OS 10.6.3. When I open Systems Preference/Print and Fax, it shows my printer in Paused status. If I try to use the HP Pro Scan program, it does not find the All-in-One.

I have also tried unplugging the power and pressing # and 3 until the power comes on, but no resolution there either.

I uninstalled the printer, then reinstalled. Then rebooted my Mac (don't have any non-Macs in the house). Also, I removed the power supply from the printer for a long period of time and then restarted while pressing # and 6. It did a semi-reinstall and aligned the printer, etc. I added the printer in Systems Preferences and then tried to print with an ethernet cable from the printer to the router...the printer window continues to look for the printer, but no printing.

I seemed to have all function on the control panel of the printer and used the wireless network wizard to set up the wireless connection. But, as it did before, I go the success screen that the wireless connection was established, but the buttons then stopped working again on that screen and it will not go away.

    What's next?

  • tdpearl Apr 29, 2010

I followed your instructions, but now it is stuck with the display showing: Checking this device. This process may take several minutes (it has been 20 so far). Do no turn off the device or open or close any doors.

  • tdpearl Apr 29, 2010

I waited a couple of hours before plugging the power supply back in. Now I have the display on the control panel, but it is missing the icons at the bottom showing the ink cartridges and also the wireless icon. Further, the buttons on the control panel do not work.

    Next steps?

First pull ink cartridges from printer.
Then make sure there is not any paper jam.
You also Reattach the RAM memory it is in back side of printer..

  1. Unplug the power cord from the HP All-in-One.Wait for 20 seconds.
  2. Press and hold # and 3 while plugging in the power cord to the HP All-in-One.
  3. Release the buttons after the HP All-in-One starts up.
  4. The HP All-in-One will now be reset to factory defaults

Then check.
For wireless networks make sure your printer ip is in range of router ip settings.
Let me know if you need further assistance.
Thanks for using FixYa.

The printer is in Hang state.... nothing can be done now other than doing a reset and reconfiguring the printer...
keep the printer powered ON and press and hold the reset button for 2 minutes.... then reconfigure the printer.... if you dont find any reset button, then unplug any battery backup that comes with the printer and also remove the power supply...wait for 3 mins for the system to get cool and plug back everything and reconfigure it....

HP Photosmart c6380 wireless printer works fine, but windows xp does not recognize the scanner

  • First, we need to create the Ad hoc network that will provide wireless connection between your computer and printer. On the right hand portion of the Taskbar, you can right-click the wireless icon and choose "View Available Wireless Networks". Or you can double click the wireless icon, then click "View Wireless Networks". It is also accessible from the Control Panel. Either way, the same window as shown in step 2 will pop-up.

  • setup-xp-via-ad-hoc-1.2-120x120.jpg View Wireless Networks The Wireless Network Connection window shows you all the wireless networks in range including the network where you are connected. If you have many neighbors with wireless networks, it will all show up. Click "Change advanced settings" and it will bring up the Wireless Network Connection Properties window. Choose the "Wireless Networks" tab and at the bottom click "Advanced" button.
  • 3 setup-xp-via-ad-hoc-1.3-120x120.jpg Wireless Networks Properties From the Advanced option window, choose "ad hoc" networks only. This is just to simplify the process. You should also bring this back to original setting after you are done connecting via Ad hoc. You may choose to skip this step if you wish and you should still be able to make the connection without a problem.
  • 4 setup-xp-via-ad-hoc-1.4-120x120.jpg Create the ad hoc network Click the "Add" button and type in a name for your Ad hoc network. Make it more intuitive so you can easily recognize your own network just in case there are other Ad hoc in range. Check off the automatic key and enter a 5 or 10 digit network key. This is the same key that you will input at the printer later. Click OK and then OK again. You are now connected to the Ad hoc network. You are half way through.
  • 5 setup-xp-via-ad-hoc-1.5-120x120.jpg ad hoc network Make sure the printer is ON as well as the wireless radio button. On the printer control panel, press the setup button to access the menu. Go to Wireless Menu and press OK. Press the arrow to go to Setup Wizard and press OK so the printer will automatically search for wireless networks in range. From the list of networks, find the SSID or Ad hoc name that you created and press OK and type in the network key using the alphanumeric keypad on the printer. The printer should confirm the connection in less than a minute. That's it! Try to print a test page to make sure everything is working properly.

    OfficeJet Pro L7780 controls non-responsive

There is conflict between the Printer and Router you are using. The Router is freezing the printer connectivity to the network due to the Wireless radio ON option in the printer

There is a firmware update for your printer, Let your printer be connected thru USB and from this link, download and install the update for your printer and later try setting it up wireless, it should work.

If this step fails, the other step is, to Enter the printer IP Address manually in the printer Network menu from SEtup Option and later run the wireless setup wizard to connect it to the network.

Will not print through wi-fi connection.

    If this is the L7780
I had the same problem at first
Do not follow instructions in book
use inserted large sheet with set instructions

Do not temporarily connect the device to an available port on the network hub

Hit OK button on the HP control panel
    Menu comes up
Then hit plastic "Setup" button below the screen

My Linksys broadband router has a "Secure Easy Setup" button
do not push this button, only use the HP screen on the printer to finish setup

May need to disable antivirus software
and Disable "Network Magic Software" if you have the program

    Mac and hp 7780

I had the exact same problem but never could get my Mac to work wirelessly with my 7780 even though the box said it was wireless and worked with OSX....false advertising.  Enough of the problem though.
I set up my printer through my Airport Extreme network.  That solution worked sporadically.  I would get error messages that the computer could not open the printer.  I found clicking the "pause" print button and then clicking "resume" would often work but needless to say that became a pain.
So, my IT guy set the printer up through it's IP address over my airport extreme network.  The printed has worked flawlessly for the last week since this change but.....the fax no longer works and now the scanner takes about 3 minutes per page.
Overall, I have been a die hard HP fan for years but after the nightmares with the L7780, I will NEVER use another HP product.  The item cost me about $459 but I have lost or spent over $5,000 in diminished productivity and IT charges and it STILL DOESN'T WORK AS ADVERTISED!
