The cartride's are both empty however the empty light prompt is not lit. When holding the cartrige button for 3 secs it will only preform a print head cleaning but will not stop the carriage to allow cartridge replacement. Help!

I am finding some truth to comments about unused ink cartriges In the

Try to reset color ink level ,see how in the following link http://atta-metro.blogspot.com/2010/03/reset-ink-level-printer-hp.html after you complete , reset make sure your file free form colors , other wise print will ask you for change color , hope this help you
problem with any one of your cartrides. open the carridge door and renove color cartridge and close it.if it says insert left cartridge then it could be the problem with color cartrige.or the same error come then put the color cartridge and remove the block cartrige.if display says insert right cartridge then it could br the problem with black cartridge.try clesn the cartridge contacts & ink nozzles and put it back (use a soft cloth to clean the cotact)
It sound like either the cartridge is empty or not quite placed correctly or if you have replaced the cartridge with a replacement rather than a canon geniun replacement the printer may not like it
its may be worth removing it shut down the printer
then start printer and replace the cartridge again
also when you pressed the finish on the printer after replacing the cartridge did it go through
the recharge bit ???
i have a canon and a epson and i use replacement ink cartriges in both without any problems
but i believe there are a few replacement cartriges that are not compatible with my prrinters
so please check that the cartrige that you are renewing is compatible with your printer
Epson software does not permit printing when any of the cartridges are empty. It is a way to make sure you purchase more ink (It stinks, we all agree).
They also use the color cartridges to make up black ink, then print the black over the top!! Again a way to make sure it uses more ink than it is supposed to.
Good thing is there are plenty of compatibles on the market that work very well and cost much less than Epson OEM's.
Sorry it is not the answer you are looking for.
It won't print if your ink cartridge is empty. Check the black and white and also the color cartrides by doing the following:
1. Slide your hand underneath the front cover and open up the case.
2. Find your ink cartrides usually located on the left on the inside of the casing.
3. Gently pull up (usually) on the cartridge and take it out and shake it. You will know if it is empty or full when you shake it. If the color is full but the black and white is out that is probably the problem. Many printers won't work if the black and white cartridge is empty because that's usually the primary color.
4. Go to Walgreen's or a similiar store and purchase a new cartridge and then just reverse the steps putting it back in. Make sure you take note where each cartride is located when taking them out and put them in their correct position when you put them back in.
This should solve your problem and you should be printing again in no time flat!
To force a Cartridge change press and hold down the Paper feed (load eject) button for over 5 seconds and the cartridges will move into a change position. Please note: if the cartridges move to a position where only the Black cartridge can be changed pressing the Paper feed button once will move the head so that the colour can be changed.
Before changing the carts it is recommended that you run the head cleaning utility.
When you have poor print quality and have tried the head cleaning utility it is recommended that you replace the cartridges. Ift the red lights aren't on to indicate the ink is out you need to force the cartridges into a change position. To do this press and hold down the paper feed button (load eject) for over 5 seconds and the cartridges will move into a change position. Please note: if the cartridges move to a position where only the Black cartridge can be changed pressing the Paper feed button once will move the head so that the colour can be changed.
There are 3 buttons on the front of printer - press and hold the button on the left (with pics of ink drops) for THREE seconds, this will move the cartridges to the remove position.
My problem is that the cartridges are knackered but the printer still thinks there's ink in them and when I press the button it goes into head cleaning mode. I can't figure out how to move the cartridges!!!!
