My Kenmore Series 90 gas dryer which has worked very well for 10-11 years began starting up by itself. It seems when we run it normally that it stops and works well, BUT if we leave it alone with the door closed it starts itself back up and comes on (heat, drum turning, everything) by itself. We have to leave the door open (or unplug it) to keep it off. I realize this sounds more like a teenager than a dryer, buts its a problem! I figure something with the timer? Replace it? Thanks! KH

Dryer doesnt go on

I opened up the lower panel of my kenmore 90 and then removed the blower cover. I found two hair pins lodged in the blower and removed them. I tested the dryer with it open and the blower and drum began to turn again. I buttoned everything back up, and it is running fine now.

I have a Kenmore Series 90 gas dryer. Works fine.

The only source of a gas leak from inside the dryer itself is the gas valve. They can sometimes leak a little gas when you first turn the gas on after hooking it up. If your gas pressure is normal (and I'm guessing the plumber checked it) and your other gas appliances are working properly, the dryer gas valve is faulty and should be checked by a qualified appliance servicer.

Check the vent pipe going to the outside of the house, including the vent louver, to make sure the pipe is not partially or fully clogged with lint.

Your symptoms are a classic description of reduced or no airflow from the dryer.
