Janome Memory Craft 5700 shut down and won't turn on

Hi there. I purchased this machine 2nd hand and was working through the embroidery manual teaching myself the basics of use. After about a half an hour of experimenting, I left the machine to embroider the letter B, I heard the needle break and when I went back to check on the machine the power had shut down, it would not turn back on.

We read about the problem possible being a fuse so we replaced both fuses however it still will not turn back on.

I also read about one owner leaving the machine and that it eventually powered on after about 6 hours. Did she leave her machine's power button 'on'?

Any information would be helpful as I may have to go to the original owner to see about getting my money back.

I have had the Janome5700 since July 2006. I purchased it from QVC for a very affordable price Brand New. I also purchased a warranty from Sears because Janome makes Sears machines. They were willing to sell me the warrranty. I keep my machine clean and bring it to Sears at least once a year for a routine maintenance. I also have brought it once in between as I felt it needed a cleaning in between the yearly. They were more than happy to service it. I use my machine every day and have had no problems. If you have any questions you can contact Janome on line as they have a wonderful customer service and tech-support no matter how old your machine is and never ask the age of your machine or where you purchased it. Try it is worth a try. Remember never oil your machine or take it apart. Let an experienced tech person help you. It is worth the extra money.

Me again, well, I went back in to cheque the fuse box and sure enough. When we re-installed the box the plug to the power switch had come undone.

Access to the fuse box is easiest by removing the heavy base. The plug to the power switch has a very short cord and is easiest to be sure it's plugged properly by going in through the side via removing the side panel.

I want to sell my 1991 New Home memory Craft 8000 sewing machine

A good place to see what machines are selling for is Ebay. That's where I sold a sewing machine and an embroidery machine.

It helps to know your product and machine embroidery lingo.

What are cassettes? Floppy disks? These make the machine borderline obsolete.

Memory cards are still around, but most EM now have USB connectivity or USB flash drives.

Satin thread? Embroidery machines use Rayon or Polyester embroidery thread.

Having had the machine recently serviced is also a plus.

Looking to purchase a Janome Memory Craft 5700 - refurbished

Yes, you have to have the customizer to download patterns. They are not being made by Janome anymore, so you have to find one on the web. The 9000 also uses memory cards. These are not made anymore either so the same applies- try the internet. And make sure you get the ones that fit the 9000 or the 5700. Best luck -I have the 5700 - a stripped down version of yours. linda

Hi, I downloaded (for free) a copy of the Envision 8006 (and 8007 supplement) manual from the Elna website 2 1/2 years ago. The Envision 8007 is the same as the Janome Memory Craft 5700. I can email you a copy of the manual.

How do I raise and lower the feed dog

If you look at the back of the machine you should see the button that will let you lower the feed dog. It looks like you slide the button one way to lower and then the other way to raise the feed dog.

To make it a bit easier just go to the following web site and move down to the pictures as there is one showing the back of the machine. The button would be on your right:
