Question about Computers & Internet

3 Answers

I have not been able to connect to Facebook from my desktop pc for over a week. I can connect just fine on my laptop that uses the same router that my desktop does. It was working fine then all of a sudden I couldn't logon and haven't been able to since. I can also log onto any other site as well. Some people have offered suggestions on how to fix it, but so far nothing has worked. Can you help me?

I attempted those things that you just told me and I even went so far as to restore to a previous date when I knew it was working, and it still does not work. I can log on to any website, just not Facebook. I can logon to Facebook using my laptop. I tried both Internet Explorer and Firefox, and neither one of them would let me in. Why is it I can get on through my laptop, but not my desktop? I need more assistance! Thanks!

I tried what you said. It did not work. I am also not able to sign on my laptop any longer. I have WildBlue satellite internet through DirecTv, and have talked to them. They said that my WildBlue is running fine and that I am able to access the internet. I have tried Firefox and Internet Explorer to no avail. Any more suggestions?

The first thing to try is to reinstall your browser ..or install a new one ...I suspect that you have a key-log (a virus that hacks your data) on your computer ..and redirect your logs..so ...try to install a new browser and see if it works...(if yo only use IE ..it may have been damaged on update to 7 or 8 ..)
so ..this is the link where you can install Mozilla Firefox..but you can use any browser you think of..as long you install it clean ..
ex..comet bird....or google chrome ..or ..whatever..I will link them here anyway
http://www.google.com/chrome
http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/personal.html
http://www.cometbird.com/page/download.html
..to make your Exporer work again try to go to control panel ..add remove software ..and uninstall it ..it will actually roll back to a previous version and if the issue was from update it will work again ..
But ..to be sur e..try to reinstall your computer as soon as you can ..and add security password on it ...to restrict access unwanted ..if it is a key-log as I suspect ..it is a very dangerous and usually it is installed manually ..so it is someone that had access on the computer ..

I read what you commented to the previous and seam to me that the problem is a little deeper..
try to get a new kinda browser and see what it is going on..but now that I read all that you said before it seams that this is nt to blame.. a solution to a possible attach will be to get in another location and log in if you can ..and after that change the password..and se eif it lets you after ..like I said ..if only on your computers it is happening this ..try to reinstall one of them from scratch ..with formatting the partitions ..save all data into another location and ..see after that ..I suspect lik eI said a virus or key logger ..and probably they infected both but not in the same time ...if one of the machines will work after re-installation ..proceed with the other ..

Do you firefox installed on your computer? if yes tell me if you already tried accessing Facebook using Firefox if not yet try it please then check if you have same problem. But if you still have same problem using Firefox or internet explorer try this options.
Click on start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools and click on Internet explorer No add on. then try to check if you can now access Facebook using Internet explorer.
Do this on your Firefox Click start and look for Firefox if you see it right click on Firefox and select Firefox Safe mode then In the interface that opens, select "preferences Reset to default Firefox" , Click on "Make the changes and restart ". now try facebook.

Delete all your browser's cookies. If you are using Internet Explorer, go to Tool > Internet Options > Delete Cookies

Or download and install a different browser. Firefox is a nice one. You may download it here www.firefox.com

it could be faster to resolve your problem if you allow me to connect and control your computer remotely. it is perfectly safe and you can see what i'm doing in your computer. you can then delete my access afterwards. my yahoo ID is blkc4us, drop me a message. thanks.

Hi. Please confirm if this solution work for you:

    1. Turn off Computer, Router, Modem for about 5 minutes
    2. Turn on Modem, Router, Computer with 1 minute interval

Please do this in exact order. The idea is to flush your old DNS and get new ones from your ISP.

I have seen this happen when a router stores a "CACHED" address for a website. The only solution is to power off the router (reboot wont always resolve).

Other things to check:
- Make sure the Comcast and Buffalo routers are not using the same subnet.
- Try to use an alternate DNS on the Buffalo, 8.8.8.8 is a good one (its googles DNS)

Reset all again.
Power off the modem, router, and PCs and wait 20 seconds or so.
Then power up the Modem first, then the router, and finally your PCs, wait a couple of minutes and try to connect.

Connecting Laptop wireless and Desktop wired to the router

Do you need to see the desktop or just share folders from each other? If the latter then you need to do the following:

Use Windows Explorer and select a folder you want to share. Right click and select sharing and security.

On the sharing tab click on Share this folder. Enter a share name ( I like to enter the PC name _folder name; Rick1_Downloads)

Click on Permissions. If your ok with everyone using the PC's and Laptops having access then highlight Everyone and click on Full Control.

Do this on each PC and Laptop.

That should be it or darned near close.

Wireless connection issues (to be origional lol)

Is your desktop pc still working fine.., clear your preferred wireless networks in your laptop, try searching for the wireless network again, check if you are abe to pick up any other wireless network in your laptop, so that you can conclude whether the problem is with the laptop or the router..if not try reconfiguring your wireless settings in your wireless router and check it out ,that will fix your problem..all the best..

* have you tried connecting desktop and laptop straight to the router? (because with your statement you only connect both computers straight to the modem and only the laptop works fine).
