Sending Error on Brother MFC 9840 CDW - I am trying to "scan to email" which normally works but each time the document gets scanned a message appears "sending error" with no error code. I've checked all connections and can not figure out what the issue is. Anyone have any similar issues with their device?

SOURCE: sending error

I had this same issue and found your question. Well I figured it out. Go into either the web interface or the menu system and set SMTP/POP to OFF. The e-mail will error out within 10 minutes. Then turn the SMTP/POP feature back on.

In the web interface,
Network Settings
POP3/SMTP
Tick POP3/SMTP to OFF
Let the send error out within 10 minutes.
Tick POP3/SMTP back to ON.

Solved!

Brother Scanner error message.

After much time with Brother Tech support. The solution finally turned out to be as simple as downloading this file to reset the drivers.

SOURCE: NO CONNECTION (LAN) on Brother MFC-440CN

I had the SAME problem. I have 3 pc laptops and 1 Mac. The Mac could still print, but the pc's were hosed. I called BrotherUSA and this fixed the problem!

Go to your printer and after making sure it's connected to the network with the Ethernet cable, go to Menu > Print Reports > Network Config. This will print a page that shows your printer's IP address. We need to config that address in your Printer, Fax and Scanner settings in Control Panel.

Go to Control Panel > Printers & Faxes. Right click on your printer > Properties > Ports tab. Click Add Port and select Standard TCP/IP Port. Click New Port and click Next on the wizard. Enter the IP address of your printer in the first field (the second one will auto-fill). Click Next and Finish. Printer's done!

Right click on your PC-FAX in Printers & Faxes and Properties. Click on the ports tab and just check the box that you just created for Standard TCP/IP Port. Click OK. Fax is done!

Go back to Control Panel and select Scanners & Cameras. Right click on your printer/scanner > Properties > Network Setting tab. Select the Specify your machine by address radio button and, if it's not already in there, enter the IP address of your printer. Click OK. Scanner's done!

This will work as long as your router is running. You may need to repeat this process after a power outage or if you need to reboot your wireless router. Not too bad, though! I just wish everything was as easy as a Mac!!!

SOURCE: Printer / Scanner won't scan to pdf

Hello! I had this exact same issue or question, I guess you can call it. And unfortunately, the CD-ROM user guide was a lot more helpful for me than the Book guide. But anyway, to answer your question and anyone else who has this same question ...

What you need to do is locate the ControlCenter3 software on your computer for a little configuration. This automatically installs when you install the printer's complete Pro Suite drivers on your computer.

You might be able to find it somewhere on your start bar (left or right side of the start bar). It's a small blue icon with the acronyms "CC3" on it. Anyway, click to open the software. Once opened, you'll need to make some configurations so that when you scan to file, it'll be "PDF" by default.

So once you have this software open, "right-click" on the circle button that says "File" and choose the option that says "Control Center Configuration". Up pops a dialog box with two tabs - Software Button and Device Button.

Now in order to scan to pdf from your Brother MFC 9840 CDW, you simply need to change the "File Type" in the drop-down box to "PDF" under both tabs. You can optionally also change the "File Name" to a recognizable default file name of your choosing (I chose to change it to say "PDF File") and you can also set your default "Destination Folder" (otherwise your scanned PDF files will automatically be saved in your "Scan" folder). That's it! No need to mess with anything else.

Most importantly, you need to make sure that these exact same configurations are made under both the "Device Button" tab AND the "Software Button" tab as well.

Click "Okay" and now try to re-scan your document as a File. It should automatically scan it as a PDF file to your computer.

I hope this helps solve your problem if you haven't already been able to figure it out.

Brother MFC 3360 C can not send fax.It show "sending" ....thats all never finished.

When my fax machine does this, it prints out an error code. Most of the times it's "Poor transmission" or "Bad line". I can duplicate the problem by trying to fax out on my VoIP line instead of my regular land line.

Anymore today, it's usually easier to scan and email the document. I can e-fax the scan if I'm sending it to someone without an email address.

I have a Brother MFC-9840 that comes up with Print Unable 21. I have cleaned as set out in maintenance to no avail. Please help. Thank-you

The MFC-9840 manual says that this code is reporting a mechanical error.
Try to reset your machine in maintenance mode:
menu * 2 8 6 4 (within 2 seconds)
91 and then 99 to exit service mode.

User manual:
http://www.brother-usa.com/ModelDocuments/Consumer/Users%20Manual/UM_MFC_9840CDW_EN_2378.PDF

Brother's suggestion:

Turn off the machine's power switch and then

turn it on again. If the error message continues

leave the machine for several minutes and then
try to print, copy or scan again

Good luck.....

Brother MFC-5840CN unable to scan

From Brother Customer Service email:

You can try the following reset - it will most of the settings back to the default options.

Unplug power cord to the machine.
Press and hold down Menu.
Plug power cord back in.
Let go if menu when fax/scan/copy flash.

You may see either "maintenance" or "machine error xx" on the screen.

Type stop/exit, 9, 1.
The machine should show "param init" or similar to show that the reset is being done.

It will then go back to or machine error.

Type stop/exit, 9, 9.

This should take the machine out of maintenance mode and back to normal.

If the error is still present the machine will require an engineer to resolve the issue.
