Before you can use your webcam in any chat program you have to configure it to that program

Test your webcam here to make sure it broadcasts ok - Hit 'Allow' in the top window and check your cam in the left hand panel.

http://www.testmycam.com/

working OK ?

CONFIGURE TO SKYPE
Connect webcam
Its good practice to disconnect and re-connect your webcam before you start (To reboot the webcam software) - if you have been using it elsewhere the SKYPE software may have difficulty in locating it, even if you exited the previous program correctly.
The reason being, the webcam software can remain hooked-up to a program and needs to be rebooted.
Mine, I just unplug it from the USB and plug it back in to reboot the software.
If yours is integral with the computer you will have to re-start the computer, use a keyboard shortcut or disable / enable the webcam from the Device Manager.

Start Skype.
On the 'Tools' menu, click 'Options'.
In the navigation pane of the Skype 'Options' window, click 'Audio Settings'
Run down the list setting your defaults
Select your webcam as the default microphone.
Make a free test call
Click 'Save'
In the navigation pane of the Skype Options window, click Video Settings.
This will launch your webcam
Adjust quality of picture in 'Settings'
Check the correct webcam is shown as default
Click Save
Test your webcam by making a Skype test call.

I have a built in webcam and it doesnt work i cant find anything to turn it on

The webcam will only turn on when a software on your computer requests the camera. Try downloading a program like Skype and see if it detects your camera. If not, you may truly have an issue with it. You can also visit the Acer website to download the latest drivers for your webcam.

My built in camera will not work with skype. i tried to do a video call with a friend but the camera will not turn on when i pressed the video call button.

The only thing that I can think of is that you also have something else open that is using the camera. Does the camera show up in Photo Booth or ichat? Do you have ichat open at the same time as Skype. Make sure you close ichat, photobooth, and Skype (and anything else that uses a camera) and then re-open only Skype. If you have something else open that uses the camera when you open Skype, Skype will be unable to use the camera.

My aspire 5532 is suppose to have a built in camera on it and i pressed F6 like you are suppose to, to get it to turn on and its not turning on. I will mainly use it for skype during video chats. What can...

I have the same laptop, and i got the same problem with the camera, but see what i found. The built-in camera is located in the same piece of plastic that camera does. Then, if you open/close the laptop so many times, this seems to damage the camera connection and is like it doesnt have any camera. So when i want to use the camera, i simply push with my thumb around the camera, and run the program/chat or anything that i will use the camera. Of course, you first look at the drivers, if correct , then try the other solution i post. And theres no built in microfone. Hope it solve it.

Make sure that your Webcam on your computer/laptop is working and enabled (via hotkey?) by using the webcam software that normally comes with the camera: if it does not, re-install the Webcam driver (uninstall driver first from Devices Manager, if present, and then re-install is the best way).
Skype only makes use of this webcam driver so it should also works again afterwards.
Hope it helps.

  2. Then click on the Video Settings.
  3. The camera if Installed Properly will come up and show a video picture.
