Question about Dishwashers

1 Answer

Sounds like dishwasher is running but no water coming out (there are no broken pipes or leaks)

My dishwasher seems like it runs, except no water is coming out. I'm not sure how to take the filter that is at the bottom out, or to see if there is a blockage in the line.

Thanks for any help you can offer.

Dishwasher is just under 10 years old. Not overly used for its years.

I had the same problem. The motor is working (humming) and my dishwasher goes through the whole cycle without water. I googled it and found it on a website. Sorry I don't remember which website. Basically, it said to put some hot water in the bottom of your dishwasher and add some citric acid. I added 2 small packets (2 oz each) and filled the bottom of the dishwasher with hot water until it covered the motor or the drain of the dishwasher and left it overnight. The next day my dishwasher started and ran perfectly fine. That was over 4 months ago and I have not had any problems.

I had no water coming in to my dishwasher. Filled the bottom of the tub with very hot water as suggested, worked like a charm, almost immediately. Thanks.

The leak comes from above where water comes out.

Turn off power before touching wet electrical appliance.

Put stopper in disposal.
Fill sink with water.
Check if water is getting through the putty seal at sink connection.

Next, check if water leaks only when dishwasher runs. Dishwasher drains into garbage disposal.

Last, check tailpiece where it attaches to side of garbage disposal. The tailpiece is usually sealed with a rubber washer. When washer is old, it gets deformed, and then it doesn't seal perfectly when put back.

I use rectorseal on all tubular pipe joints under the sink.
Works on both plastic and rubber washers.
It is gooey and sticky.
Brush it all over the washer, use plenty, then assemble pipes.
The rectorseal assures that joint will not leak.

Hello,
It sounds like the leak is coming from the water intake hose.
The water intake house is located at the bottom sump of the dishwasher. To get to it the dishwasher has to be taken out and put on its back and the floor plan needs to come off. The intake hose runs from the inlet valve under your sink and attaches to the sump with a metal keeper. Overtime the part of the hose where the keeper is cracks (Normal wear and tear). As I recall the intake hose runs approx. $129.99 from Miele direct. It comes with an inlet valve on the hose. there is no separate or substitute hose you can use.

Good luck

The pipes froze in my house and now the dishwasher seems to work (ie it all sounds fine and water is in it), BUT it leaks badly. viking model vud140.

If the temperature dropped in the home too the water retained within the pump and the units lower assembly may froze which may have cracked which woul leak heavily. It mat be by chance too that the seal within the pump has failed. If it leaks only when the pump runs chances are the seal may be out; if however it leaks with nothing running it may be a crack. Another spot to check is the fill solenoid. You need to get underneath it or pull it out to determine where the leak is coming from.
I hope this may have helped,
Tom

Yes sounds like some kind of water leak. Take of the front plinth and check underneath the units and DW. I presume you DW is adjacent to the sink so please cheak all pipes including waste asap. Also opening the DW door whilst it is running can splash water, over a period of time this could effect wood material and cause your problem.

Dishwasher's cycle just stalls

It looks like you have a cold water supply problem. Check water entrance pipe, may be bend (if you have there a vane - see it is open).
Check that water entrance valve work (it is an electromagnet valve, located at the pipe's enterance to the machine).
If it doesn't work, test that it get power. In case it get power and dosen't work - You can easyly open the valve and clean it (from scale or other dirt). Be aware you should disconnected the power cable from machine before doing it.
Check as well for valve's coil resistance or you should replace for a new valve.
