Question about Motorola Mobility Motonav TN30 Car GPS Receiver

45 Answers

Good afternoon, I am in Brazil and I have no support for the device motorola tn 30. I tried installing the program on my Motorola phone Miopocket Montonav TN30 and during installation time to copy files the program stopped getting frozen on the screen. After a while Shut off the machine and rebooted and there came the surprise that I was stuck on a blue screen with an "X" in RED in the center of the screen and not get anything. Already reseted, I took the battery cable, formatted my SD and the only thing I can access it via USB cable SD. Have you any idea how to help me, to really solve my problem. In its look. Mario

Thanks for your help, hopefully someone else can guide me to solve this problem. If you know some link that can download the software for resettlement would be very grateful.

I've done this procedure and did not work.
The installation goes right until the end and after rebooting back to the problem cited.
I think maybe have to reinstall everything from the beginning, the problem will not affect the WinCE too?
I look forward to feedback, thanks.

Is there any program that can delete and reinstall the original program that do not have.
I can only see the SD card and can not synchronize with your PC, use Windows 7.

  • Mario SOuza Apr 29, 2010

I tried using the ASRDisp.exe and does not find my device with Mesnager: "Can not detect ActiveSync connection." and when leaving the message "CERHost: Error 10004 from accept".
I can not access my device and some hours activesync does not detect the device. I await further guidance.
    Thank you.

    Hello,

I'm running out of hope of solving my problem, because what has made me not working.
The only thing I can see the gps using the usb cable is the sd card, nothing else. And not putting the program back in sd Miopocket and renaming the files are not being read, the one that is recognized is the upgrade from motorola as quoted anteiormente.
In anticipation of a better solution, thank you.

    Good afternoon,

I think that's what happened with my set as hung up after a while without continuing the installation and the screen had frozen and could have damaged any internal file.
But not spotted on the website of motorola any program to do the original installation, you could pass me some link to access and download and then put in my sd because it is the only thing I can access the GPS via USB.
Thanks and I await your return.

  • Mario SOuza Apr 30, 2010

    Please

Some of you know how do I fix my MOTONAV TN30 is probably with the internal files corrupted by a bad software installation Miopocket 3.0 R59.
After attempting to install the device only shows a blue screen with a big red "X" in the middle and I can only access the device via USB only seeing my SD card and nothing else.
I tried to upgrade downloaded from Motorola and has been recognized, started the update procedure, but after you boot back to the same screen.
Sure of a solution and support I thank you.

Can not get no access to my unit, I think the problem must be with the ROM that was corrupted in WinCE installation of the Miopocket 3.0 R59.

    Good evening,

Among the options that I questioned all are working:
    1) Battery 100% loaded;
    2) Corrupted files <== This is where the problem is only that in the ROM gps;
    3) Flash memory, I believe that as this problem has not received the upgrade from motorola and up until the end, the machine restarts, the splash screen displays the Destinator 8 with the updated logo, but the arrow does not appear to loading and after some seconds will for the blue screen problem.

I appreciate and look forward further information.

These one is for the TN30:

To reset the TN30, press the Power button for 8 seconds, then press Power

button again to turn on. You can use a pin to reset button when the unit is on.

here is additional info in case these is your problem:

    My touchscreen has stopped working!
This can happen on certain devices when you enable Transcriber or JOTKBD. On most devices, a hard reset or shutdown of your device will undo everything. Try holding down your power button for up to 10 seconds, waiting a few seconds, then holding it down again. If MioPocket is still installed (or that doesn't work), connect your device to USB. If it successfully connects and you last left it set to ActiveSync mode (MioPocket's default), then, from a Windows computer, run MioAutoRun\Programs\Win32\ASRDisp.exe (for the best performance, run a local copy). Are you able to use the device that way? If so, run one of MioPocket's file managers and skip the next paragraph before continuing reading.

If, for whatever reason, you are not able to use ASRDisp.exe to remote control your device, create a folder named 2577 on an SD card, copy the contents of MioAutoRun\Programs\FileManCE2 (from the MioPocket zip) to that folder, then rename FileManCE.exe to autorun.exe. Insert the card into your device and the file manager that you just copied to the folder should run.

From the file manager (that you ran through ASRDisp.exe or that autoran for you from the card), navigate to MioAutoRun\Scripts\UninstallKeyboardDriver.mscr and run it. Next, run MioAutoRun\Programs\Reset.exe or Restart.exe. If, after reset, MioPocket is still installed and the touchscreen still doesn't work, use the file manager to run MioAutoRun\Registry\Exclude\OriginalKeyboardDriver.reg and MioAutoRun\Registry\Exclude\TouchscreenBackup.reg (one of which contains your old keyboard/touchscreen driver settings). Repeat the reset. If even that doesn't work (or the files don't exist or you can't choose Yes to the prompt), run MioAutoRun\Programs\TroNik\TouchScreenFix.exe and reset.

If none of the above work and you have file access to your MioPocket installation (either through USB or, if installed to SD card, by removing the card and putting it in a card reader), here are some more things to try:
    * Find the executable that you originally launched MioPocket from (either MioAutoRun.exe or Miomap.exe before you renamed them) and copy MioAutoRun\Programs\TroNik\TouchScreenFix.exe in its place, renaming it to the appropriate name.
    * Open up MioAutoRun\MioPocket.ini, find "InstallTransciberDriver" and set it to 0.
    * Open up MioAutoRun\Scripts\StartupPrograms.mscr, scroll down to the bottom and move the "Call("TestTouchScreen")" line to below the "EndIf" line.
    * If you can connect in ActiveSync mode (but, obviously, can't use the aforementioned ASRDisp.exe to control your device), then, from a Windows computer, run Mobile Registry Editor from the MioAutoRun\Programs\Win32 folder. If that connects, then manually edit the registry back to the settings that you find in the OriginalKeyboardDriver.reg file mentioned above.

After each of the suggestions immediately above, try to hard reset your device and re-install MioPocket. Admittedly, this may be easier said than done without use of the touchscreen. Just keep in mind that, often, you can reset by holding the power button down/off for up to 10 seconds and, with SD installations, MioPocket can often be re-installed by inserting the SD card or tapping the power button off, then on again. If you have done an SDfree installation, try putting MioPocket on an SD card and performing an SD installation via the instructions in this Readme or elsewhere online.

after downloading the said installer, it is a zip file , you may try to read again all the readme files
on its folder inside the installer .( only after extracting it to a folder of your choice ).
There are a lot of them to read, and I am reading some of it , just right now.

  • Rommel Cana
    Rommel Cana May 02, 2010

I forgot to tell you, after downloading the installer ( zip file about 88.9MB ) , make a folder of your

choice ( root directory perhaps is better , like drive C not inside the Program Files ), and copy

or cut the said folder to it. Once copied , extract all of them inside the folder that you have

created . Although like the installer said , you may need not to copy all of them to your card.

i have found also a web site where you can try re-installing the firmware:

    http://www.goodslowprice.com/en/unlock.h...

    only with a fee.

But , check first the files that are installed and copied to the SD card as stated on the readme

    files above.

  • Rommel Cana
    Rommel Cana May 09, 2010

try to post a snapshot of what s inside your SD card

or the details what files have you copied on the card.

  • Rommel Cana
    Rommel Cana May 10, 2010

    the SD card should have:

    ( from the solution I posted April 29 )

a ) create a folder named 2577 on an SD card

b ) copy the contents of MioAutoRun\Programs\FileManCE2 (from the MioPocket
    zip) to that folder,

    then rename FileManCE.exe to autorun.exe.

Insert the card into your device and the file manager that you just
copied to the folder should run.

If, after reset, MioPocket is still installed and the touchscreen still
doesn't work, use the file manager

    to run
    Mio AutoRun\Registry\Exclude\Original Keyboard Driver.reg and
    Mio AutoRun\Registry

    \Exclude\TouchscreenBackup.reg (one of which contains
    your old keyboard/touchscreen driver

    settings)

If you can connect in Active Sync mode (but, obviously, can't use the
    aforementioned ASRDisp.exe

    to control your device),

    then, from a Windows
computer, run Mobile Registry Editor from the

    Mio AutoRun\Programs\Win32
folder. If that connects, then manually edit the registry back to the

settings that you find in the Original Keyboard Driver.reg file mentioned
    above.

    After each of the

suggestions immediately above, try to hard reset your
    device and re-install MioPocket. Admittedly,

    this may be easier said
than done without use of the touchscreen. Just keep in mind that, often,
    you

can reset by holding the power button down/off for up to 10 seconds
    and, with SD installations,

MioPocket can often be re-installed by
inserting the SD card or tapping the power button off, then on

    again. If
you have done an SD free installation, try putting MioPocket on an SD
    card and performing

an SD installation via the instructions in this

What happens is that I can not copy all files and also I have no idea how. Could you help me or guide in any way?

On your computer, you must be an " administrator " or have privilege to access inside the

computer or the one that owns your computer that you are using.

You need to go to " Administrative Tools " inside Control Panel.

From " Administrative tools " go to " Computer Management ".

    Under " Storage " select " Disk Management ".

Once selected you may be able to see your SD card.

" Right click " on it and open.

Do what you need to do, and post again

  • Rommel Cana
    Rommel Cana May 23, 2010

    you have synchronize the time?

    that is a good sign.

It means you can partially communicate with the device.

Here is what I like you to do:

Since you have another GPS try to rebuilt or make the program working , in your computer.

You can verify , the Program ( program that is created by the software ) by applying it to the other

GPS to know if it working ( running ).

If it do, then try it your own GPS and post what you find.

Verify too, if that program can access the SD card of the other GPS.( not your GPS )

if it can , copy all the contents to a separate folder on your computer ( only if it can be copied )

( maps possible , I'm not sure about other files ).

Keep in mind , your goal is to make the software run ( program ). If it is good and running , maybe

we have a chance. Check the program on other GPS , to see if it is good and running.

post what you can access on the other GPS.

  • Mario SOuza May 23, 2010

Yes I could access the device you're with me, I could also copy the entire folder that contains the Destinator (My Flash Disk \ MobileNavigator), pore the folder with the windows CE (\ Windows) can not copy some files because speech that are not in use may be copied, I think this is where I'm having problems with my gps.

Seeing the files is also a good sign .

please read carefully the following articles:

    http://motorola-global-portal.custhelp.c...

    here are some of it,

You can transfer files from a computer to your memory card with a
cable connection or by using a card reader.

    Cable connection:

    1. Make sure the phone is not connected to the computer

    2. Press the Center Select key

    3. Scroll to and select Settings, Connection, and then USB Settings (If
this option is not available see Memory Card Reader below)

    4. Highlight Default and press Change

    5. Scroll to and select USB Drive and press Select

    6. Press the Clear key to return to the home screen

    7. Connect the cable to your phone and to your computer

    8. Open your "My Computer" window where your phone's memory card
displays as a "Removable Disk" icon

    9. Click on the "Removable Disk" icon to access the memory card.

    10. Drag and drop the desired files into the memory card window to copy
      them onto the memory card

Note: You may see "Mobile" and "Motorola" folders in
the memory card window. Do not delete these folders because they are
      used by the phone.

    11. When finished, disconnect your phone by clicking "Safely Remove
Hardware" icon in the system tray on your computer, then selecting
"Safely Remove USB Mass Storage Device"

    12. Disconnect the cable from your phone and computer.

Mario,
You must immediately take the phone to the service center and get the firmware reinstalled. Or if Motorola has the facility to install it at home over the internet, then you must do it yourself. I am sure there must be some dealer who is capable of doing it for you.

This means that the update wasn't successful and the device has no viable operation system (firmware ) so ..what you have to do ..is go to the manufacturer site and download again and try to reinstall it ..cause if the reset wasn't helpful this means that there is no other way..at least its connecting and this is a good thing ..means that the drivers still pair with the device ..

It seams that it detected the internal flash where the firmware should be installed..cause any other flash memory into this device should be larger...so ...this means that you installed the driver properly and now all you need is the firmware ...just download it from the official manufacturer site ..and cause the communication between devices is already done...just run the firmware soft and follow instructions..

I can help you with your Motorola Motonav TN30.

It sounds like you need to reflash the firmware / reinstall the system software. This can be done downloading new system software and running it on your computer to reflash your GPS.

In order to download the system software from Motorola a serial number and possibly a purchase date is required.

Good afternoon,

I am in Brazil - 56b8190.jpg
I am happy to help: post the information required to me & I will provide the system software.

Here at Fixya, we do not get to see what other people have written until we post our solution. Now that I have reviewed your file here, I can see that you have had trouble getting proper help.

I can see that we are on the same page as to how to repair your Motonav TN30.
What you call 'ROM', I call firmware & I specialize in repairing firmware here at Fixya for cameras, cell phone, MP3's and of course GPS. I specialize in Garmin GPS, but it is essentially the same process for all devices.

The only reason I haven't just sent you a link to download your firmware to fix your Motonav is that Motorola tightly controls the download of this software, as I documented above in my first post. If you can provide a serial number, we can move this forward.

  • Paul Sager
    Paul Sager May 04, 2010

Someone else has apparently attempted to download the Motorola Motonav TN30 System Software replacement program using the serial number you posted, and messed it up by entering a purchase date beyond the extent of the units warranty. This serial number is now locked out from accessing the system software download.

This is the message I received after entering the serial number you provided:

Here is the message big enough to read.

If you would like to follow up with Motorola's Customer Service Representative, this is the link in blue.

You may be able to source the system software file you need by corresponding with Motorola, although I wouldn't necessarily offer up the fact that you are in Brazil to them. Once you have the file you require you may find these Fixya Tips handy when it comes time to install your replacement system software:

    Motonav TN30 Firmware Fix
    Motonav TN30 Upgrade Manual

    I hope that helps.

Hi,the ROM is crashed as a result of a system error which occured during the installation of the program, however the ROM has to be flashed to restore your device back in a perfect working condition, however you have to download the software to enable the flashing process, the software can be downloaded at www.rapidshare.com,you can also get a detailed description on how to flash the firmware of you device, but to be sincere with you,the process is a really cumbersome and difficult task,so be careful,so you don't ruin your device's ROM completely.

Thanks and take care

Hi,from the initial stage when you posted this question when i told you the ROM of this device was the problem, that it was corrupted and had to be flashed,it sounded awkward but as an expert, you advice customers but you don't force them to accept your solution, but to save you from unnecessary stress, the best solution is to get the entire ROM of your device flashed completely,to restore your device back to a perfect working condition.

Since the device came to a stop during installation, there is a big possibility that the software has been corrupted on it. The best way to solve this problem is to connect the device via usb to a pc, then back up all the files that you can see. Once done, go to the manufacturer's website or do some google search for this particular software. When done, upload the software via usb onto the device and start the device. This should solve your problem. Good luck with it.

I would suggest you look for it using bittorent. It is the best source if you cannot download it from the manufacturer's website.

Requiring a hard reboot with the bottom-mounted pinhole reset button. Freshly reset, the Motonav TN30 was again usable. Try it and tell us news.

Its possible that you can read this link with comments about your NAV model: instalar-mapa-motorola-motonav-tn30-tn20 (in spanihs, but is very easy)

Had to do a remote support call today for someone having trouble with a
MDA Compact II , which is a PocketPC phone.
After unsuccessfully trying to walk the user through the simple steps
required to change their email I did a search and came up with a
Microsoft tool for remote controlling the PocketPC via the PC (which in
turn I could see via VNC). This wasn't available as a free application
when I last used an application to remote control a PocketPC.

After installing this on the PC (and thereby the PocketPC once the owner
plugged it in) I was able to resolve the issue quickly. Funny really as
he was about 10 minutes walk down the road!

You can get the Remote Display Control
for Pocket PC from the Microsoft website
    .

If you receive just a blank white screen on the PC and when you close
the screen you get a message box titled "CERHost", stating "Error 10004
from accept" then do the following:

    1. Ensure that the device is connected the the desktop using ActiveSync
    3.1 or above.

    2. Launch the desktop host by clicking on Start > Programs
    > Remote Display Control > Remote
    Display Control Host.

    3. On the Pocket PC, tap on Start > Programs
    > cerdisp.

    4. Then tap OK > Connect.

    5. Leave the hostname as "PPP_PEER" and tap "OK"

    It should then connect.

Just a quick note on my particular configuration in hope that it may
    help someone else out:

    1. CK31ex - Intermec Handheld computer w/barcode scanner

    2. Active Sync 4.5

    3. Windows CE 4.01.00.0872 Premium

    4. Intermec Smart Systems Consol 3.50.04.1120
Most recent versions of ActiveSync and Smart Systems Console as of
this writing (12/08/2009). Intermec can't help you and most of the posts
out there are very shallow and vague. If anyone else is messing with
Intermec equipment let me warn you ahead of time they list this as an
unsupported feature and don't know much about it.

    Good luck.

Hello,

That typically happens as a result of an application update that either downloaded an incorrect version of the application for the device, or the application update didn't complete before the device was removed, or the application it downloaded was somehow corrupt.

Try deleting any application updates that were downloaded into HOME, then delete the application from the device, then download the new application update for your device, and install it to the device. Give it a good wait after it says it has finished installing the application update and then be sure to use the software eject button within HOME before disconnecting the drive.

Otherwise, you probably have a call to TT support in your future where they will likely have you download a utility to clear the flash on the drive and reinstall the application on the device after that.

Good luck.

I was hoping you would get default files on your card expecting that would make it work again. if you didn't you need to get someone to provide you with those default files and folders, or try to replace the card from motorola, or give them a call and explain the situation as they may be able to provide further suggestions

    sorry I wasn't much help!

    good luck!

    questions:
did tried to install miopocket to the flash memory or the SD?
have you tried to run again the miopocket installation targeting your sd?
what installation procedure did you follow? as I can't find your unit being supported.

    mario

the link to install the factory or original system files is non existant, only motorola would be able to do such thing (if there's anyone who can). I would suggest to keep trying to reinstall miopocket on your sd which is the only one you can access with the assistan of the people in the forums where you download miopocket in the first place, instructions of how to install to the sd were provided in readme file that I posted on my previous comment or can also be accessed through the installation files of miopocket.

you need to realize that miopocket and its installation in a device that is not supported by it could cause the unit to become a brick and this may be the current case.

Hello

Unfortunately, it sounds to me like a firmware malfunction. I know this is not what you want to hear at the moment, but, the only way to fix this problem, is to send the device in to the manufacturer.

This is why the manufacturers and selling outlets always provide customers with free "in store" updates, to eliminate customers updating the devices at home, resulting in corrupt firmware.

Please do not hesitate to let me know if you need any further assistance.

Kind regards
Andrea

From your statement, it is clear that your there's application incompatibility. The only solution for this is to revert back the settings to previous state and it's not possible without flashing software. What you first need to do is format the phone memory using a flashing software (which you need to go to the repairing shop). Reset it to Factory Default. Please note that, everytime you install an application to your phone whether you install it in your phone memory or memory card, the basic files of the application will always go to root drive (phone memory). Please visit a popular mobile repairing shop and get the phone format, if this can't solve, your last chance will be to flash it. Other mobile phone such as nokia would display "contact service". Anyway no trick to be implemented without the Flashing Software. Good luck

Please flash it, there's no other solution to get it fixed. I really want to help you, but I can't give more solutions since this is not possible without the Mobile Flashing Software. I hope you understand what I mean. If you don't flash it, you'll never be able to use it. Once again Good luck.

Hi Mario, this could be a software issue in your Montonav TN30. Usually when you installed software in this gadget, it will work flawlessly. What you experienced there is the program will stopped from insatlling and the screen will freeze. This means that the unit Operating system is not accepting the software that you are trying to install. You may try to reset the gadget as basic troubleshooting. Inorder to do this you will be needing a pin to push the hole underneath the gadget for 8 secs then press the power button again to turn on. Do this when unit is turned on.

Best of luck.

You may have unintentionlly "bricked it", it is not uncommon for these GPS programs to kill the unit when upgrading firmware or new maps, which are the same thing. Unfortunatlly there is an eprom in the GPS that would need to be reprogrammed. You can try downloading the map update to a computer and give it a go with the usb, even take out the sd card and use a card reader, "if your computer has one". But thats all you can do. I bricked one myself and I know better

I's sorry you aren't satisfid with the answer. But GPS devices use a chip, an Eprom chip, and once you mess with that as in a bad download, you are pretty much screwed. The only recourse you have is what I suggested or returning it to the manufacturer. It's not like a computer, it has a chip that is programmed by a special programmer, that costs thousands of dollars, I know this because I had a similar problem. I can usually undo anything I screw up, but not that particular issue. I see you are not happy with the answers you are getting. But the fact still remains, It isn't something you can fix by yourself. I am going out on a limb and telling you that you are wating your time trying to fix this yourself. Sometimes we must just face up to the truth, in this case the truth will set you free.

  • George Bill
    George Bill May 23, 2010

Dude you are wasting your time with this. Unless you have an eprom programmer it is no good anymore

Well it's not the country your in,lol. Motorola in it's classic crappy support (I also have a motorola so I can bash them, lol), offers no support for that model any longer. I found some links of interest though, check these out:www.taringa.taringa. net /posts/downloads/4147828/Actualizaciones-de-Motonav-tn20-y-tn30-gps-Motorola.html net / posts/downloads/4147828/Actualizaciones-de-Motonav-tn20-y-tn30-gps-Motorola.html , http://www.garbarino.com/promos.php?id=393
http://www.xataka.com/gps/motorola-motonav-tn20-y-tn30-navegadores-gps , try all those out in order. The first link is the guy's actual post, the others are the sources he refers to. It seems like motorola made a tn20 & 30 & both were dropped pretty much as soon as they sold all thier available stock, because they knew there was an issue trying to update or getting updates for that matter. The user manual is good for toilet use, since it explains nothing. Now the tricky part of this is,one the sd card needs to be from motorola,it's coded for that device only, & 2 you need a program compatible with your model. motorola doesn't offer any map updates, never did for the tn30 & only a few for the tn20. You didn't hear this from me, but there's alot of aftermarket programs that update the maps & prep any sd card to work. There's even some apps that are more modern that install on it too. Those links & some good Googling will find you everything you need to know. The main issue at hand is it lost power during the update & now it's corrupt. So somehow you need to refomat & prep the card with whatever motorola put on it in the first place, then try again to install the update, this time make sure it's plugged in to a constant power source until it's done. If you can't locate the "code" or whatever that motorola used, then using the methods above, search for iGO & the crack to unlock the tn30 so it will accept 3rd party software. The latter would be my choice. yelling at motorola goes nowhere. They could care less, just like HP & Compaq support. Hope this helps. I'm not worried about making money on this either. first we don't make ****, considering all of us experts have alot of schooling & experience. I like to do this when I'm not busy. Also, hardly anyone knows or even heard of your device, since the main market was outside the U.S.,ironically Brazil was the main buyer!! You'ld think they'ld definately support it there. Long & short of it is I spent better part of an hour looking all this up for you & I trully hope it helps. If there's anything else or something I missed just post back. I'll get an email & I'll be online for about an hour or so more. Thanks for using Fixya!!

This is a hardware failure - due to extreme temperature, drop or jarring while powered on, or incomplete/corrupted update.

The only repair is to return to the manufacturer for repair/reload of the O/S - however since you are out of the US, that will not be possible.

Thanks for using FixYa. Please accept this answer to remove it from the work queue.

Not sure if you have access to the user manual for the TN30.

If not download the user manual from

http://www.motorola.com/staticfiles/Support/Mobile%20Phones%20Accessories/MOTONAV%20TN30/Static%20Files/TN30_UG.pdf

http://www.motorola.com/staticfiles/Support/Mobile%20Phones%20Accessories/MOTONAV%20TN30/Static%20Files/TN30_QSG.pdf

Not sure what files you are trying to copy and what you are using the USB for. The TN30 is a bluetooth enable GPS system and you have to use a bluetooth device like a mobile phone to communicate with it. The SD card is used for storing additional maps. The USB port on the device is used for charging but I don't think you can connect it to any computer.

It is best you download the manuals (setup guide and user manual) and check again.

If you need to upgrade the software on your Motonav TN30 then read this manual

http://www.motorola.com/staticfiles/Support/US-EN/Mobile%20Phones%20Accessories/MOTONAV%20TN30/US-EN/_Documents/Static%20Files/MOTONAV%20Web%20Download%20Install%20Instructions%20v8.pdf

Unfortunately I did not see the detail of the comments that you have responded to other fixy.com consultants. we don't get to see this until after we provide our suggestion. This is a limitation in the fixya.com system. I hope you are able to replace the firmware in the ROM. It is definitely something which only Motorola can fix.

Sorry for wasting your time. Please do not rate my solution (2 fingers etc.) as I only see your original problem description and not the details of the comments you already have received for last 2 weeks or so. You can remove your ratings.

This is cmmiuser01 - please remove the rating you have given to my solution as it is not consistent with the information I have provdided to you. I do not have access to the solution other experts have given to you and this problem is dragging unusually longer. There is a limitation on providing assistance if the problem does not appear to resolve.

    Thanks

  • Sam May 20, 2010

I think you need to make sure you don't keep sending this problem back. A lot of the fixya.com consultants have tried to help you since 28th April but looks like you are not satisfied. It might be best to go to Motorola in USA and get it fixed as you decided in one of your postings.

Most of the fixya.com consultants try to help on a voluntary basis without much compensation.

You need to connect the device to your pc using theb serial port provided on the device. To update the firmware and revive the unit. Sadly this will involve contacting the manufacturer to send you the program needed and the cable. You may get the usb serial cable to buy locally and the company can email you the software and instructions for you. I saw you post a few days ago and didn't want to post hoping someone might have a better solution.

The best way to get the information you need is to contact Motorola. There are so many different responses to your efforts I think best is to contact Motorola direct. Go to Google and write in Motorola support. Then follow through the result until you get the service department for GPS.
Hope this works for you. Sounds like it is scrambled for now. Darrell S

If you will go to Google, type in " motorola tn30 GPS review" you can read a lot about your gps and surf further in to parts and service.

  • Darrell Sorenson May 12, 2010

I sent you the address to use on google to get to the bottom of this. I am sorry I cannot do any more. Darrell S

I cannot give you any more advice than I have. I don't have the unit here and if you cannot get in contact through Google, I gave you the way to do it, I am of no help to you. I am sorry, Darrell S

Ok, first thing you had asked for was the MOTONAV TN30 Specs, I've linked them for you. It runs on Windows CE, so the device software for your PC is just Microsoft Active Sync, nothing special there. But , obviously this means that the device won't work on Linux, Macintosh, or pre-XP versions of Windows. (I'll assume therefore that you are using XPSP2 or later and have installed the appropriate version of the Activesync software on your PC.)

The blue screen is a firmware issue if you're getting it on the MOTONAV and a sync error if you're get it on the computer. (But, I think one of the issues many of the technicians helping you have had is understanding where exactly your issue was)

If you are getting a blue screen on your computer when you try to sync or update the device, it is most likely a problem with the version of ActiveSync and/or Windows. You may need to backdate Activesync, run the software in compatability mode, or use another machine to get your updates.

If the issue is that the device blue screens then you will need to make sure that the memory is good and that the firmware is up to date. Follow these steps to download the firmware / system software of your Motorola Motonav TN20:

1. Head to Motorolas webpage to download the system software.

2. You will presented with this screen:

3. Find and enter your Motonav's serial number. Review the picture below to find the correct number on the label.

Good afternoon,

I am in Brazil - ffa0cef.jpg

4. Pause for moment and consider the Purchase Date. If you enter a date here beyond the covered warranty period of your Motonav TN20

Since the default year of this screen is 2007, I recommend choosing a more recent year. Many people complain that they didn't notice this and get themselves locked out of what they should be entitled to.

5. Enter the Purchase Date, click Submit, and save the file somewhere on your computer.

The software download procedure is now complete. Follow these steps to install the new system software for your Motorola Motonav TN20.

Hi,

Maybe you tried everything to solve your problem. when I locked your question I am not able to see your previous comments. That's why excuse me for the same solutions if there is before.
You are saying that you formatted your SD but you need to be able to upgrade your GPS ROM.

Maybe the SD formatter software which you can download from this this link detect your GPS ROM flash drive. I am not sure but if you can manage that, then you may upgrade your device from here.

Hope this helps.

Good luck

WOW!! I have been away from my computer for two days and when I logged on and read your comments, I REALLY UNDERSTAND WHAT YOUR ISSUES ARE BASED ON.... VIRUS INFECTION!!! To me , it now comes together and makes sense.. I should have thought of it before, but the BRAZIL based possibilities got me off track.. I am sorry for my ignorence requarding this. But now, re-analizing all commments posted up to date, I feel confidentent that your problems are associated with a virus or malware issue..

With that said, here are some NEW SUGGESTIONS THAT I HAVE FOR YOU TO TRY...

    1) Please tell me the VIRUS PROTECTION SOFTWARE that you are currently using to Protect your computer.

    2) I recommend that you go to the following links I am providing, and Download/Install/Run these programs to search, find, and DESTROY any/all Viral Activities at hand.. Hopefully we will have caught them in time, and there has not been too much damage done. #1 http://download.cnet.com/Malwarebytes-An...

    & #2 http://www.norman.com/support/support_to...

    & #3 http://vil.nai.com/vil/stinger/

PLEASE BE SURE TO DOWNLOAD EACH ABOVE FILE TO YOUR DESKTOP FIRST. Then from there, you will double click to open each program, one-by-one at the same time to run a FULL SCAN on each.

    3) After your have completed each Program Scan, Please Let Me Know the Outcome Results for Each OK? From There, I will Inform you on what to do next.. Please do all the suggestions that I have noted in order. Thank You and I will be awaiting your response.. Sincerely, LUCKY4LYNN2

Hello,.there could be a lot of causes to your issue let me list some.

1. Battery (just because you charged it does not mean its still good batteries have a shelf life of so many cycles)
2. corupted files on the unit (try the reset button should be a pinhole size stick a paper clip in there hold it until you see the splash screen)
3. Bad flsh memory

The issues with GPS devices are AGE,Betteries, corruption of files. Now to rule these out you need to think how long you had the unit.

If this is new well chances are you got a DOA dead on arrival or someone's returned unit. note: please try those steps and let me know if you got questions.

take care.

Here is on the house - please send the unit s/n - and the exact name and version of 'the program' you tried to install on your unit. Many times shutting off a unit while loading a program - any program - render's the unit inoperable.
Here is my suggesting friend. - Start over with a new unit and order it with 'the program' already installed.

I'm sorry we couldn't be of help.
You can go to main fixya page and scroll to the very bottom to the contact tab and request to close your account if desired.

I do believe motorola will tell you the same thing. To either reset the device, or to update the software. If neither one of those two work, the the device may be faulty.

    http://docs.google.com/viewer?a=v&q=...

Just highlight, copy and paste the entire link in your internet address bar. It is guide to all downloading, updating, and more.

If reseting and updating still doesn't help, then you may have internal problems.

  • Nate Stansfield

You can try to use an sd card or usb flash drive to upload the software. Do make sure it is the exact version for your phone. They do make different versions. They do make a firmware flash device which is a bit expensive, but you can get it here:http://www.mightygps.com/compactflashgps...

  • Nate Stansfield
    Nate Stansfield May 07, 2010

Just make sure there is no disk in the drive. You can also right-click on the drive, then go to properties, Make sure read only and everything else is UNchecked, then click apply. Then ok. Then you should be ok.

    1) Click the WINDOWS START BUTTON
    2) Click over the Windows START BUTTON, there is the
    SEARCH engine.

Click there and search for regedit

    3) Click regedit and the Registry Editor folder will
    open

    4) On the left menu, in order to make the folders drop
    down, click

the following folders with an arrow as follows:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE,
    then,

    SYSTEM, then,

    Control, then,

    Class, then look for
    {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

    5) On the right side of this folder, you will see some
    files (probably

with a small "ab" on a little paper which is an icon).
    Look for

LowerFilter and right-click it and DELETE IT. Yes,
    delete the file!

Don't worry if you think it could damage your computer
    system

since, HOPEFULLY, you have already created a Restore
    Point

    for your system.

    6) After deleting the LowerFilter file from your system,

    RESTART your computer.

To make these GPS machines work right they need to know where in the world they are, just like you do. If you are in mountain country the machine may not be able to get a fix on your position. I believe this is the problem. Solution: Get to a place where the GPS can get a fix by at least 3 sats. Then follow the instruction mucho peeps have tried to give you on Fixya. Gracias amigo.

    MioPocket
is an "unlock" (or alternate front end) for Windows CE-based devices,
mainly GPS navigation devices (aka "PNAs"). It is an installable
package of programs, scripts, registry files and skins to "unlock"
GPS/PNA devices and allow them to be used for far more than just
navigation (ex. for music, movies, appointments, multiple navigation
apps, etc.). MioPocket is the most-packed and most-fully-featured
unlock for PNAs available and is free and legal to use, as it consists
100% of freely-distributable content. What MioPocket is not is
a replacement for MioMap, Mobile Navigator or any other OEM navigation
software. It is just a front end from which you may launch your device's
navigation software or other navigation software that you've purchased.
    MioPocket
comes with just about everything that you might want: three media
players (video and audio, nearly all popular formats, including MP3,
WMA, AAC, OGG, MP4, H.264, WMV, MOV, DivX, XviD and more), three e-book
readers, multiple dictionaries (including English to 5 languages),
dozens of games, two image viewers, two paint programs, MS Office
document viewers, text editors, handwritten note-taking apps, four
general GPS plotting/mapping apps, three different appointments/tasks
apps, a contacts app, a calculator, a unit converter, registry editors,
task manager/switchers, file managers, an alarm clock and more (all
    free/shareware). See the Readme
file for a full list. Note: MioPocket does not come with MioMap, iGo,
Garmin, TomTom or any other commercial navigation software. Icons and
scripts are included for them, but not the programs, themselves (since
    they are not free).
    Technically,
MioPocket should run on any Windows CE-based device. Due to the great
many brands and types of devices out there, though, some will have
better success than others when it comes to the ease of installation
and the number of included features and programs that work. Most major
Windows CE-based GPS brands, such as Mio (which MioPocket was
originally designed for), Magellan, Navigon, Navman and Asus (and some
other lesser brands) have installation instructions in MioPocket's Readme
file. For obscure brands without included instructions, you may have to
look around online (including the gpspassion.com forums) for unlock
instructions and then adapt MioPocket accordingly... or be a pioneer
and figure it out for yourself. Note that TomTom and Garmin devices are
Linux-based and, hence, MioPocket (which is Windows CE-based) cannot
    run on them. GPS FORUM

The original maps for this unit were supplied by Destinator, who have no ceased business. It is doubtful that nay other maps will work on this as they have not been made to operate with the TN30 engine.

Time to move on! 3.5 screens are obsolete also, most manufacturers are only interested in the 4.5 and 5" screen format now .
