Re: will not work
If you are sure that it is the original remote than consider that it may be no good. You can test it by pointing it any digital camera or a cell phone camera and pressing each button. The camera can see the light, our eyes can not. If the remote is no good or if you need to see or buy the original than I suggest you look here. They have pictures of the remotes also.

Not sure if you've decided to throw your remote control away already or not. But try using the manual search code. I have only tried this with an LG TV. Hopefully it helps you out. Basically press "TV" (light blinks once), then press the "Up" channel button and the "up" volume button at the same time (light comes on permanently), then hold down "Power" whilst putting the remote RIGHT IN FRONT of the place where your tv receives signal (usually where you can see a light), and I mean right in front! Hold it down until your tv powers off. Then it should be configured and working. It took me about 1 minute or more for the TV to react and turn off. Then you can check if it turns on again and if the channels are working. Maybe you'd need to press something else instead of TV for a VCR? But the trick is to be about 1mm away from the signal receiver. I literally put it in front of the red light of the tv.
The two screws inside the battery compartment would not really hold the case together. Try using two flat screwdrivers working on the side of the remote control; one levered open a bit and the other slipped in further and levered more to split it open. I think a blunt knife may also do the job; but never a sharp one because it will be too dangerous.
Please check & ensure the infrared is emiting from the remote control. Though we cant see this infrared beam with bare eyes, there is a trick to do so in http://www.unique-stuff.co.cc/fixing_remote_control_check_infrared.html Most of the problems is weakened infared beam. Replace the batteries when needed. Hope this fix the remote control problem.

I had the same problem. The problem is strange and seems to be with the receiver in the TV and not the remote control. The reason I say this is that when this first happened my Samsung brand DVD could actually control the TV. This then also failed, but still works fine with the DVD player.
Anyway there is an even more bizarre fix to all this......
- Remove the batteries from your TV remote.
- Press and hold the red (ON/OFF) button for at least 1 min.
- Replace the batteries and hey presto!!
I know seems far fetched but I found it on the Samsung website and it does work.
Try these simple trick to find out yor remote control working or not.... Point the remote control towards the Camera of a Mobile Camera phone, with the camera on. While pressing remote, we can see a light (Infra Red) coming from its IR LED through the Mobile Camera if the Remote is working. If your Remote is ok, then the problem with the Remote sensor or related components of the device.
