    Hello kman,
Thank you very much for your reply. I have tried several times to order the battery cover thru the website you sent me but it comes up with an invalidation code saying there is a problem with the address and/or zip code. Can't figure this out.

You can buy a replacement battery cover here $14.95:

http://www.darntoothysam.com/servlet/the-197/Canon-Powershot-A80-Repair/Detail

If you can do it yourself could be worth it. If you need to send out for repair would probably be cheaper to buy a new one for about $100 or so.

Hope this helps!

Make sure that if using a credit card that you enter the address exactly as it is on your credit card statement. That might be why not working.

    They also take Paypal.

My batteries went dead and camera shut off. Now I

if the camera wont turn on remove the memory card and make sure your pictures are transfered. Try using regular disposable batteries. Also when trying to turn it on try holding down the power button for 5 seconds. If it still doesnt turn on coud be a broken switch connection.

Despite changing batteries constantly, camera wont work properly. With fresh, new AA batteries, camera will take 1-2 pictures and then low battery light comes on , then camera shuts off

hi, this can be happening due to some bad battery contacts in the camera. take some cotton buds and clean the lower and upper contacts of the camera. this will help you. else revert back to us. thank you sweet rascal

My battery cover is broken and the camera will not power on. Will the camera work without a battery cover?

Hi,
Very often they won't as there are spring contacts onto the battery inside. The battery needs pressure to keep it in contact.

CANON POWERSHOT A530 LOW BATTERY READING

Alicia,
Mentioned on my blog that the last paragraph of the advisory states:

""PowerShot A530 and A540 digital cameras affected by this phenomenon will be repaired free of charge, regardless of warranty status. Accordingly, if the opening/closing spring on the inside of the battery cover of your PowerShot A530 or A540 digital camera sticks out, please do not use the camera. Instead, please contact a Canon call center (1-800-OK-CANON) at your earliest convenience."

But also mentioned that if they don't help, a temporary fix is to insulate the spring from the battery contact plate. Merely place a small piece of tape between the portion of spring that's sticking out and the metal battery contact plate.

Canon Poershot sd300 digital elph. It just wont turn on period.

Try this: with the battery installed and battery door open, take a pencil, fine tip screwdriver, or anything long and skinny and push the tip of it into the little nub circled in the picture here. There's a spring inside that little nub... keep the spring depressed and try to turn on the camera. If it works, then either a small piece of plastic broke off the battery door or the nub got broken/pushed in too far for the battery door to trigger it. Try using a dab of hot glue to keep the nub pushed into the down position.

No Battery Life

On mine, the battery terminal on the inside of the battery case is broken, by opening and shutting the cover a few times until it contacts properly it is normally OK. Anyone know where I can buy a new contact plate in theUK?

Battery cover replacement

First, replacement battery covers may be obtained from dealers in the USA - I got mine from San Diego Camera Solution who list the item on eBay. Haven't found a UK outlet, but I guess Leung's at Goodmayes would offer a repair service if you don't fancy DIY.

(Disclaimer that I have no connection with either company).

Not sure what Canon recommend, but the easiet way (worked for me) does not involve stripping the camera down. If you dissemble the old and new battery covers via the three little cross-point screws (see warning), then it is possible to replace the new cover around the original hinge assembly.

The advantage of this method - aside from not opening the camera - is that there are "spares" the bits that will get dropped (spring and screws) so that there is less time wasted trying to find them while effecting the repair!

The trickiest part is the sprung loaded latch, which must be installed with the spring partly compressed. Beware when first taking the covers apart and especially when refitting, because the spring will do its utmost to escape.

Battery Problem after very few Photos

Very likely Take batteries out and with the eraser at the end of the pencil gently polish the contacts. Do the same with the lid contacts plate. Close it and try. If it will only work with the lid being pressed try this Take a piece of foil and lay it across the batteries then close the lid this will help pack out the contact. BE careful however if the contact plate covers 4 batteries and is in two pieces make sure there are two separate pieces and do not let them touch

Camera was dropped and is not on

Take batteries out and have them checked, and make sure they are fully charged. Take a pencil eraser and clean/polish the contacts at base of the battery compartment Take a look at the battery-comp cover place and make sure the contact plate is firm replace batteries switch on OK No? Open the battery compartment, place a piece of foil across the batteries and shut it - turn on -OK No? Press the cover in OK No? Them it has broken beyond your reach and needs repair or replacement
