Question about Samsung SyncMaster 204B 20.1" LCD Monitor

2 Answers

I have a SyncMaster 204B. It is hooked to a Toshiba laptop. I cannot get any display on the SyncMaster. However if I press the button third from the right on the lower righ hand corner, the display comes on for about a half second, then it goes dark again. Any ideas?

Fn + F4 has no effect. In the past, the user Manual instructed Alt F5 to switch to external monitor. this does not have any effect either. I can see the display on the Samsung, as described above, but it only stays for a half second.

The SyncMaster does display the laptop, it just doesn't stay on for more than one half sec.

There will be a switch built into the Toshiba that will let you choose either the built in display, an external display, or both. Your graphics driver software may also have a switch. If you have already found these switches but still cannot get the external display to work, you may have an issue with either a setting such as frequency or size of display, the cable you are using or the port on the laptop or the monitor. Check your owners manual to find the switch if you haven't already done so.

If you are having trouble locating the switch on the laptop please let me know what the model of your Toshiba laptop is and I can then assist you in finding the switch.

If it is set as a secondary monitor to the laptop ..you have to actually turn it on ...and this is done by pressing Fn +F4 in most laptops...try it and let me know how it presents..

try fn f5 ..or like in the manual..or right click on the driver manager icon in the tray system ...(lower right on the taskbar ..where all programs are shown to work ) ...and choose option or settings ..and see there whats to do ...try to locate the monitor ..and to enable the second one..it has to have a manual enabling ..and I guess the short cut will be there written also..I guess if you default it ..it will do too..
Another thing to try is to go to bios and set it to optimal factory defaults ..just in case the port is turned off.save cganges by F10..
after that the only issue remain in the driver settings if this is not working ...probably its set in an odd way or something ...Look for settings (enabling) of the second monitor ..on the video card driver manager

i hope you have not pressed lock button on your remote control - check this button once before replacing any components ..... check following links - regarding replacing capacitors - in 3rd link you will find power supply board - you will find similar board in your monitor also ..... on your board look for deffective capacitors (top blown) just as shown in these links --- you have to replace those deffective capacitors ----- my suggestion is you replace all the capacitors ( maximum there will be around 6 to 10 capacitors ) because other capacitors are also weak .. if not now definitely in few days they too will go .....and also capacitors price is less ....they are cheap .....regarding capacitor value --- see on all the capacitors on your monitor's power supply board ........ you will get exact value .... replace by same value .......

My SyncMaster 204B Monitor just stopped working. It worked fine this morning before I left for work, but when I arrived home, it wouldn't power up. I've been Duel Screening for about 2 yrs with no problems...

Replace the screen with a known working one. If it shows display then it is the screen which is broken, if not, then it could be the port on which it is connected.

Have you tried to plug it in else where?
If you did and still same problem then from what you said I was hopping that it wouldn't be your problem, but you will need a new monitor.

First of all plug another monitor to the VC on your PC and do the same for the SamSung"I over heat"SyncMaster2 053BW.
Oct 23, 2009 - This is how it went for me..I have a Samsung SYNCMASTER2.gif 2053BW. I leave my monitor on and let it hybernate when I shut down PC. I'm 3 months outside of my warranty. Two weeks ago something started happening. I boot PC and video doesn't come up for 10 minutes, and when it came up it worked perfect. VC/Monitor/MB?? It became 20 minutes and ...now..I have the analog/digital box in top left screen, power light on monitor flashing, no menu available on monitor and none of the other buttons work for anything. I test the monitor on Laptop..nothing(same as above)..I break out the old(working) monitor from deep within the closet. Plug it in and I'm up and running. So...

HOW TO OPEN A SYNCMASTER 2053BW

NO SCREWS!!! Assuming that the stand mount has been pulled out..The seam around the screen frame is where you start. The frame has the prongs, the back cover has what the prongs slip over. The frame is coming off first! I got the side to open by finger, then used a small standard screwdriver to pry ever so gently(lifting frame from rearcover). Leave the power button assembly on the frame, pull wire only a little to relax any tension..you get about 3/4" in extra taped to panel. The hard part is done.;) Still holding the frame...Now lift the panel (where the power button assembly wiring goes under panel) with the power housing that is under it as a whole and you will see where the powerbuttonassemble detaches.Remove frame. Now..holding edges of panel into back cover, lift and flip the whole thing over and place panel face down on a perfectly flat surface..a towel on my desk works. Lift and remove back cover.Your now looking at the back of the board housing. The ribon is simple, on the panel end of the ribon, squeez the outer clips together and slide it away against the panel..The secondary tin plate is removable, two clips super close to where the sets of wires come around the housing and into the panel.Unhook the 4 plugs(pink inside/blue outside)...Now lift the power housing off of the panel. The big board has the power. One screw to remove a ground plate first. Two screws to remove power board. Pics from phone.56ec44b.jpg

Reassemble but DO NOT re-snap the frame into place....yet... Test it! There is a reason the caps got hot in the first place, therfore it has a good chance of happening again. This is not fullproof...but.....mine has been on now for close to 6 hours with no glitches whatsoever. So I have resnapped mine back together. I hope you can too. - I must also add that this is one of the best producing monitors I have ever seen...in 60hz. The clarity is top notch. If you purchase one get the extended warranty. FYI...I paid $4.00 for those caps.
