Question about Javelin Systems Inc Javelin Viper PC Desktop

1 Answer

I need to make an image of the data on the hitachi hard drive in the Viper POS unit. It appears to have a proprietary interface in order to facilitate sliding the hard drive into the unit and making the connection. Can that proprietary interface be (easily) removed to expose the standard 44-pin ATA interface?

I would have to say yes because the data for your POS can be found HERE and it says it has a removable hard drive. Unfortunately it's no longer being sold so support is limited.

External hard drive not accessible

A Hitachi USB external hard drive is a device that acts as portable, removable storage for your personal computer. If you need additional space to house files on your computer but don't want to go to the trouble of installing an internal drive inside the case, a USB external hard drive is your best option. These drives are "plug and play" devices, which means that very little can actually go wrong. If you're having problems, fixing them shouldn't take more than a minute or two.

Check your connections. A USB cable needs to be connecting your Hitachi external hard drive to your computer. Your external hard drive's power cable also needs to be plugged into a functional wall outlet, surge protector, extension cord or power strip. Make sure your Hitachi USB external hard drive is turned to "On." An "On/Off" button is present on the front of the unit. If the indicator light around said button is not illuminated, the drive is "Off" and your computer won't be able to recognize it. Press it to turn it on and then try to access your drive again. Format your hard drive. If your Hitachi USB external hard drive doesn't currently have a file system on it, you won't be able to use it to store data. Open up the "Computer" icon in the "Start" menu. Right-click on your USB external hard drive's icon and click "Format." Click "Start." This will install a file system on your Hitachi USB external hard drive. After this process is finished, you will now be able to use your drive. Restart your computer. Certain models of computers (especially older models) won't recognize new hardware unless your computer boots with the hardware already connected. Leave your USB drive plugged in and restart your computer. Once you do this, your Hitachi USB external hard drive should appear as normal in the "Computer" folder with all of your other drives. Hope this helps.

How can I copy all HDD's data in LG HDD/DVD Recoder RH1888HS by my computer or Laptop?

If the unit is under warranty...DON'T DO THIS.

open up the unit and remove the hard disk.
If you have a desktop, connect the drive like you would any other hard disk.
If the drive does NOT show up under My Compujter, then the format is proprietary, and all you can do is back up the drive with a program like Acronis True Image (you must have more free space on your hard disk than the DVR's drive size...if the DVR has a 500G hard disk, you need 500G of free space on your desktop drive).
If the drive DOES show up with a drive letter under Computer, then create a directory on the C drive and simply drag and drop all the files from the DVR hard disk (E: or whatever it makes itself) to this folder. The files may still be in a proprietary format and unplayable though.
If you are trying to play the files on the computer, I suggest using VLC player. It plays almost everything in the universe.

I want to take some programmes my hard drive and use them in my external hard drive.

There are essentially two types of data that are written to a harddrive.
1. Programs (such as Microsoft Excel) 2. Data that are created by the Programs (XLS files)
In order to "move" PROGRAMS, they have to be first uninstalled from the original harddrive; then reinstalled onto your external harddrive.
In order to move DATA, simply do a copy and paste from the original drive to the new drive.

Hello, my hitachi travelstar harddrive doesn't

Unfortunately when hard drives get to this state they are usually toast and if working at all on their last leg. You may be able to recover some of your data using a professional service otherwise a new hard drive is in order.

Hitachi's Travelstar hard drives are excellent and I recommend the following replacements:

For SATA (Serial ATA interface):
320GB:

500GB:

Hope this helps and let me know if you need further assistance..

I got a Hitachi PortableDrive,500GB. How does the Backup-software on it works? I want to make an image of my PC, before I did it with "Acronis True Image". But the Drive above has a Backup- software, which...

this is really simple NEVER TRUST BACKUP SOFTWARE for one
you will not be able to back the HDD image that only occurs when the OS is installed trusting your HDDs proprietary software for backing up your data will only save a bunch of **** you'll never need or use , when backing up data like your whole computer there are only 4 locations that need to be backed Your Documents (videos , movies , photos , music , Etc.) your program executables your internet favorites and any game profiles , everything else is on your operating system and can not be saved since those files run through the OS registry saving them wont
save the registry loaded items so saving is redundant . stick
with saving the 4 items I suggested to an external HDD . as your
data grows daily save new data to your ext. HDD , it will take
a few minutes and you will have backed your all that needs to
be saved data . if you have any questions about backing data email at
terminalconnection@gmail.comand I will be more
than happy to assist you .

Viper 690XV Installing with INT-SL Data interface module

The number 2 pin on my cars OBD II is the data carrier which is then connected to the purple wire of the INT-SL Data Interface Module.
Data Interface Modules are becoming the standard for alarms and remote starter installations. These modules will make installations 75% faster and more accurate. I also recommend using Posi Taps to tap into your OBD II.
This a safe and 100% effective reversible method of connecting wires without crimping, cutting, or soldering. If you have any questions feel free to drop me a line or simply Google: "Posi Taps" by posi products. For Interface modules Google: "INT-SL". Good luck with your next installation. And remember the has endless resources providing you take time out to research them.
By the way my Viper install was a sucess.
Best regards,
Rico
