Question about Whirlpool DP920PF Dishwasher

1 Answer

Dishes have heavy deposits of soap when finished. I tried both powdered detergent and jell detergent. If no soap is used, dishes are spotless.

Kemore 17509 wont clean glasses are always dirty and some bowls as well. we pre clean dishes before they go in dishwasher

There can be a multitude of causes to a dishwasher not cleaning well. First, check your wash arms - make sure the holes or nozzels are clear (not blocked), and make sure they are free to turn. Make sure you are not over-loading the dishwasher and stacking bowls on top of bowls. Next is to check to see if enough water is going into the DishWasher (DW). This varies with different models, so it's hard to tell you how much is enough. Also, what kind of detergent are you using? We find that powders seem to work better than liquids and gels , and tablets sold by Finish Corporation and Cascade work better than powders. Next thing to check is to make sure the heater is working to heat the water during the wash cycle. (Listen for the soap dish to open, then open the door 10 or 15 minutes later and see if the water is hot.) If your dishwasher has a removable filter, you need to take that out and clean it at least once a month. And finally, if your dishwasher is all encrusted with calcium and hard-water deposits, you probably need to run a dishwasher cleaner in the machine. (Use Dishwasher Magic, or Finish Corp's Dishwasher cleaner, or Glisten, or even Lemi-Shine detergent-booster powder or their dishwasher cleaner.
Hope this helps!

When I wash the dishes whether it is liquid or powder cascade soap the dishes come out woth a white filmy substance. What causes that?

Hi

White film deposits are observed if water is hard or when you are using more detergent than needed, try filling detergent cup half way. Try using white vinegar after the wash cycle is complete, run a complete cycle. Also turn down the heat on the hot water fed to the dishwasher. Try using water softener for better results.
You can also add vinegar in the final rinse cycle. Make sure that your soap dispenser drawer is opening and closing fine.

Hope this helps... Please post back if more information is required.

My dishwasher is not cleaning the dishes as well as it used to. Are there some simple things I can try before calling a tech?

Use a good quality powder detergent.
Check your incoming water temperature, 120 degrees plus.
Use a rinse aid such as Jet Dry.
Start the DW without soap and no dishes.
Once it starts the wash cycle pour in 1 quart of WHITE vinegar and let it finish the full wash cycle.
Then load up with dishes and powder detergent and run a load.

Sorry to disappoint, but this is a general internet help forum. I really don't know who you are complaining to: the Cascade detergent makers, or the company who sold you your dishwasher. You should most likely call them if you believe you want silverware replaced?? But I honestly do not know if they would because they can say it was all about your choices in detergents; how do they know it was the dishwasher and not previous issues, etc...
BUT since you are posted let me see if I can help anyway: do you have a rinse agent? Many people do not realize that the simplest and best way to have dishes without film is with the rinse agents, because of varying hard water issues. Which could have also be part of whatever happened to your dishes. Me I like Finish detergent and Finish rinse agent. I feel it is best to use matching detergents/rinse agents. Also if you use a powered detergent make sure the spray of the water jets are able to hit the powder. If not the soap will cake in the tray. Well hope that helps a little.

Tablets not dissolving

Sounds like whatever soap you are using is just too much soap your dishwsher can handle. The soap "packs" are usulally an overload of soap for most dishwashers. Just a few teaspoons of regular name brand soap sometimes will cure lots of dishwsher ills!!!

Soap film on dishes

Rodney B if you are sure that the white film is detergent and not hard water deposits, then look at how you are using the detergent. When you watch the TV ads for dw detergents, they are showing baked on/extemely dirty dishes being put in the dishwasher and coming out clean. Well they do this as the dw detergent is designed to break down protein based food products. Fats, oils, and such. If you are prewashing your dishes before putting them in the dishwasher, then there is nothing for the detergent to attack and attach to, so it ends up staying in the dishwasher. If you are going to rinse your dishes, then you need only 1 tablespoon of detergent. Dishwashers are designed to clean using 4 parameters, hot water of 130 degrees, water, detergent,& pressure of the water jets. That is how they clean dishes. Now if this is hard water deposits, switching to an enviromently friendly detergent which is high is Citric Acid (What gives Tang drink its tartness) this will reduce this issue. Hope this helps
