My mower had the same problem. There was some dirt or debris built up on one side of the blade drive shaft, but once I shot some oil onto the shaft and turned the blade a few times by hand, it ran good again.

Hope that helps!

Yard man pull cord will not pull

Remove spark plug and see if you can spin the blade . If the motor spins than the pull cord assembly is seized up and needs to looked at and fixed. If the blade won't spin then the motor or the cord assembly is seized . Make sure you remove the spark plug before trying to spin the blade.

Lawnmower blade wont turn

Probably bent the shaft. Disconnect the spark plug to prevent accidental starting and lay the lawn mower on its side. Slowly turn the blade with your hand and watch the center of the shaft. If it wobbles at all it is bent. $150 to $200 job. Probably time for a new mower.

Pull cord jammed in the lawnmower

There could be several reasons for this problem, but sometimes it is in need of a simple cleaning. Remove the 3-4 nuts holding the starter assembly on the top of the engine. Normally you will use a 10mm socket and ratchet to remove them. Turn the starter over in your hand so that you are looking at the starter pulley. Inspect the starter rope and make sure it isn't jammed between the starter pulley and the housing. If it is jammed, grab the starter rope and starter pulley and rotate them both together clockwise until the rope becomes unjammed. If the rope isn't jammed, turn the starter pulley counter clockwise gently. It will probably spring back and draw in the rope. If it retracts the rope slowly, spray WD40 around the bolt in the center of the pulley and work the pulley back and forth until the pulley frees up. If it doesn't free up or this isn't the problem, get back with me and I'll try and walk you through the rest of the repair.

My yard pro lawn mower will not start, when i try to pull start it the crank rope vets pulled back sometimes

Two things to check here, check the blade is tight, it acts as a flywheel so needs to be tight, second, check the flywheel key has not sheared as this will cause the engine to kick back as the timing will be out.

ok. 1. you are not pulling hard enough,or the turning of the motor is jammed or seized. look under mower deck for an object jammed w/the blade and deck.

I replaced the pull cord on an mtd mower. and now it won't rewind the cord?

You have to tension the spring before installing the cord. Remove the cord. Put the recoil assembly in a vise. Prepare the ends of the cord so they can be threaded into place. Spin the pulley in the proper direction until it is tight. Align the hole in the housing with the hole in the pulley. Thread the rope in and knot it and pull tight. Slowly let the spring tension retract the rope. Cut the rope to length, install handle, knot and test.

Remove the recoil assembly from the mower, there are 3 machine screws.
Remove the old rope and get matching cord, make sure you get the correct diameter, usually 3/16 or 1/4 inch, and type, I believe it should be nylon braided. Do not cut the new cord.
Use a match to light the end of the cord and once it ignites, use an old rag to pull and form the end into a point.
Notice which way the pulley in the starter assembly rotates and hand spin it in that direction until it is fairly tight. Once it is tight, rotate it into a position such that you can push the pointed end of the cord from the outside into the hole in the housing of the starter and directly into the hole on the inner pulley. Tie a tight knot in the end of the rope inside the pulley.
Remove the clamp and let the rope get rewound on the pulley. Cut the cord, point this end and run it into the handle and knot it.

Clutch seems to be stuck on toro push mower. The cord will only pull up a couple of inches before it stops.

I had the problem of the cord coming out slightly then stop.
The most likely candidate is you are low on oil and the engine seized up. Make sure you have the proper amount of oil. Remove the spark plug, then take a rubber mallot and gently knock the mower blade (counterclockwise) until it starts turning. Continue this process until you can move the mower blade by hand. Once the mower blade turns freely then the cord will be able to be pulled. I found that these Toros use quite a bit of oil especially if you are cutting a large lawn. Check the oil level before each mow to make sure you are not low.
