Question about HP LaserJet 4250n Printer

1 Answer

Our printer makes dirty copies. It looks smudgy and it happens on various papers. The clean cartridge process does not improve the situation.

If the smudges are repeated at regular intervals down the page, it will be one of the rollers. A common cause is if you get a paper jam half way through the fuser (the hot roller at the back) and pull it through to clear the jam it can leave excess toner on the roller. This then melts and causes smudges on all the pages that come out later. You can clean the marks off the fuser roller, but unless you know exactly what you are doing you should be very careful. the fuser roller is VERY hot when it is in operation so you can burn yourself if you are not careful. Unfortunately the toner marks come off a lot easier when it is hot, when it cools it hardens and sticks to the roller more. You should also take care not to use anything sharp or abrasive on the fuser roller, if you damage the non-stick coating it will make matters worse. A soft lint-free wipe is recommended, or a piece of something like kitchen roll if you cant get soft cloths.
You can buy replacement fusers for HP Laserjets which should be a relatively easy replacement. but they are usually not that cheap.
First thing to try is take out the cartridge, clean the inside surfaces with a DRY, clean soft cloth. There will be a soft sponge-type roller which you can wipe but be careful not to contaminate it as it will affect print quality. Also lift the flap on the cartridge briefly to check the shiny roller underneath for any marks. this is the drum which is sensitive to light so don't leave it exposed for too long.

Testimonial: "I think that the fuser assembly needs to be replaced. We have cleaned around the cartridge and done the cartridge cleaning process several times."

Canon i965 prints blank pages

Yes those printheads do go bad, they burn out just like a light bulb. If you emptied cartridges then the purge/cleaning assembly is working properly, and the only other option is the expensive printhead.

How to clean the roller

Moisten a lint-free cloth with deionized water or isopropyl alcohol, and scrub the roller. So, to clarify, put the liquid on the cloth & then scrub. A little bit goes a long way, so don't soak it with the liquid.

I had the same problem, replaced the PCR in the cartridge, the small black drum that pre charges the drum and erase the old image.
After that print was all back ok.

More than likely, you have a bad toner cartridge.

Paper has dark marks down middle

If you make a copy, does the copy have dark areas down the middle of the page? If so, remove the toner cartridge and gently roll it around to redistribute the toner inside, maybe even replace the toner cartridge if you've had it a long while. If you still see unevenness, you may need to have the machine looked at.

If the copies you make on your machine look fine, then I would suspect that the person sending you the fax has a dirty scanning element. Check with them to see if they can clean the scanning element and it should improve the fax quality.

SMUDGE LINES

I'm gonna assume you have a laser printer. You might need a cleaning since some toner might have spilled when you replace your toner. Toner gets into the rollers inside the printer that pulls the paper thru and creates smudgy black lines.

Check out your local business supply store like Staples for Laser Printer Cleaning paper. It doesn't work 100% of the time depend how dirty the inside of the printer is. Maybe a quick fix then buying a new printer. Getting toner mess out is a a messy job.

Smudgy Photo orints

Make sure you are printing on the correct side of the paper. Most photo paper is single-sided. If you print on the wrong side, the ink sits on the surface, pulls up into very small drops, and remains wet for quite a while. If you print on the correct side, the image should be dry to the touch within 15-30 seconds.
