Backpack blower PT 500. Why doesn't it start?

What's the compression like? Take the recoil housing off, remove the spark plug. Turn the 'pawl' by hand, you'll feel if its smooth when the pistons in motion with no resistance. If there's any stiffness or grinding, then you'll be looking at possibly replacing the cylinder and piston/ and rings. It could also be a crank bearing or con-rod bearing so if you're not mechanically minded id suggest taking it to a repair center.

Tightening chain on limb n trim 1415

George:
The adjusting block is a round nut... it used to have a pawl sticking out from it, but the pawl has been broken off. The pawl sticks through the adjustment plate and into the bar so that when you turn the adjustment screw clockwise, it will pull the bar out to tighten the chain. I had the same problem when I loaned my saw and the chain came into contact with a chain link fence breaking the pawl off of the adjustment nut. Go online and order a new adjustment nut... they shouldn't cost more that a few bucks.

Have a ECHO gas trimmer SRM 2100 wont start. coulld it be the fly wheel

If it doesn't turn over when you pull the rope it could be in the starter assembly or the flywheel where the starter pawls engage it. If it turns over then you need to check for fuel, spark, air and compression.

My echo 400 chainsaw was working great and then it shut off. Now I cant pull the starter cord to start the engine. I pulled off the cover and it looks like the 2 pawls inside are engaged so that the spool...

This does not sound good, start by removing the starter, try to turn the engine by hand turning the flywheel, move it back and forth incase there is somthing trapped between the flywheel, if you cannot turn the engine this way, then somthing bad has happened inside the engine, it will now require a strip down to find out exactley what has happened

I cleaned my saw and started it up, it worked fine for about two minutes and stopped, now I cannot pull the rope

If your machine is solid dare i say it is somthing you have done whilst cleaning it,if you removed the starter did you make sure the pulley had engaged with the starter pawls? ( slacken the cover screws rigth back and see if the cord will now pull out ) its possible you may have dropped a screw which is now trapped between the flywheel and ignition unit, worse still you may have dropped somthing down the inlet elbow and this is now jammed in the piston, take the starter off and try to turn the flwheel backwards ( clockwise ) to diss lodge anything caught in the flywheel, if the saw is still solid, then the cylinder will have to removed and the internals checked.

Echo trimmer srm-230 pull string to start trimmer is stuck. I try pulling on it and it only comes out about an inch.

The pull string is probably tangled up. There are usually vents which enable you to see into the machines pull string assembly. Loosen the fasteners and pull off the cover exposing the pull string. You can unwind and untangle and then it should recoil perfectly. If that does not work continue to dismantle the pull string assembly because you probably have a broken starter pawl which is located on the back of the pull string assembly.

How to take apart pull rope for weedeater edger

If the recoil is in the front, the engine has to be removed for access to the pull start assm. Start taking the bolts out in the back and work your way forward. Use a coffee can or a large pan to hold the bolts. You will use hex key drivers that are like the allen key sets. The hand grip with the throttle trigger holds the front of the housing. The grip has two coarse threaded cap screws which hold it to the shaft. Before you tear it all down, try shooting some wd40 or similar down in around where the pawls grab the flywheel. Maybe the drum is just stuck against the flywheel and after a little lube will free up and be ok?
