You can check for spark by unscrewing the spark plug , place the rubber boot back on the plug and have someone gently pull the starter rope while you hold the electrode of the plug so that it touches the engine block. make sure not to touch any part of the plug or you will get a shock! only hold the plug by the rubber boot! while a helper pulls the rope you should see a spark in the electrode of the plug if you have it grounded against the engine case. if you have spark then try spraying a little starter fluid in the spark plug hole or the air cleaner. either will work and should get it to fire if it has spark. if it starts and then shuts off, your carb is probably gunked up.
