Hi, a word of warning , the ignition voltage of a metal halide( grow light ) is many thousands of volts .
the first thing to try is a replacement bulb , next is replace the ignitor ( usually a small block with 3 terminals ).
a metal halide lamp can often look to be perfect when infact its internally blown .
hope this helps

I pluged this into a 240 volt supply and all of the lights went out. I bought new bulbs still will not come on after I switched it over to 120 volts. What is going on please?

There is more to it that just the bulbs. You have blown all the chokes/ballasts that supply the power to the tubes. Nothing is going to survive twice the recommended voltage.I found this from an old Fixya posting.

You probably have T8 ballasts controlling your lights which are electronic. Its pretty much a sure bet that these are fried and will need to be replaced. Open up the tray that is between the bulbs and write down the F32T8x? Number that is on the front of the ballast. The ? Will be the number of bulbs it is designed to run. As long as the number matches up you can just cut the old ballast out and it wire the new one in. Ballasts generally run ~ $20 a piece. Hope this helps!

My yard light, I think its a mercury vapor light? will go off randomly at night and come back on after about 30 seconds continuously. Any suggestions?

Check whether it is self ballast, if it is self-ballasted, so the ballast is integrated with bulb itself, so you can replace it with a new bulb, it can be self-ballasted mercury vapor bulb or regular energy saving bulb., if it is mercury bulb need work with ballast, from your description, the capacitor should be replaced, which is a little bit complicated, you should check it with electrician, or you can do it carefully after you read some documents.

Safety Tips: Turn power off at any time before you start to repair any electric appliance or lighting equipment.

The following is some reference for mercury bulbs and its associcated ballast.

Good Luck

You may have a wire burned out going to that set of ballasts/bulbs. Have a trained technician to check and repair this.

My toshiba 52hm95 i still without a picture replaced the lamp and the ballast, the color wheel spins(cut the knob with the plastic tip attached from the lamp access door to get it to power up while firing...

did you change the bulb or the bulb with housing. 2.5 volt is start up volts. this is to check if the bulb is there or not. check that you have the bulb connected good you can test the bulb with a meter. on rear occations the bulb may not work even a new one.

How do i remove a ballast

ballast--- -usually a ballast transformer used in flouresent lights to turn 120 volts ac into 2000 or 3000 volts ac at a lower amperage. the ballast transformer has 4 nuts ,one at each corner for physical mounting .2 wires for the ac line cord and 4 wires for the flouresent tube. wires are connected together with wire nuts that can be pulled off the wires while unscrewing the wire nuts.
make a picture of what color wires go where, take wires off one at a time and make pictures. the wires are not interchangable and must go back exactly where they came off from or the unit will never work again.
many ballast transformers have an electrical diagram showing where the wires go. you may need a magnifing glass to see it well enough read it. Please study the diagram and understand it before you begin disassembly.
WARNING: You must make sure that the electriic cord is unplugged or the circuit breaker on the OFF POSITION
with the electricity on ,you can be electrocuted by either the 120 volts ac or the 3000 volts ac that means crash, burn and fry.
so de-energize first.
The replacement ballest must be rated for the wattage of the flouresent bulbs ,the length of the flouresent bulbs and the diameter of the flouresent bulbs. that are in the lighting fixture. the flouresent bulbs also have their own make and model numbers.the model numbers of the bulbs are standardized throughout the industry. The model number of the flouresnt bulbs that a ballast will work with is on thw ballest sticker, on the cardboard box and on the directions.the salesman in the flouresent ballest [lamp] section at home depot or lowes should also be able to help you.

Can't plug 400watt ballast into a digital timer,bulb won't light.

How did you connect the 2 cords if they don't match up ? Usually the cord configuration on just about anything electrical is for a reason . It is to keep from plugging inthe wrong things ! It is possible that your digital ballst won't run your fixture due to miss matched intternal parts . One may be magnetic and one digital electronic .

How to connect a 3 floresent bulb ballast to 277 voltage power source

first you need to know that the ballast is 277 volts or you will fry it, 120 volt ballast will not work on a 277 volt system, i suggest that you need to get an electrician to help you with this, if you hook it up wrong it will cause a problem

Tried replacing the bulb...but the lamp light still blinks red and no tv

Next thing to check is the ballast - There are other things that will stop the lamp coming and the next thing after the ballast is the power to the ballast which should be between 250-300 volts from the powerpack, if not the powerpack is the trouble, it may have bad capacitors on it preventing the feed to the ballast, a multimeter needs to be connected across the input to the ballast for this voltage

The UV light is not working on my 300307. How can I tell if it is the bulb, the ballast, or the transformer?

Read across both prongs of light with a meter set on ohm's to check for continuity(closed circuit) if no reading bulb is burned out. Mine attaches to the ballast and then is inserted into a glass tube wich is then screwed onto the housing. There is a micro switch attached to the ballast that setsmwhen insertet into the housing that might be bad(had to replace mine) Remove bulb and check if grtting power to it by inserting volt meter probes into receptacle for the light and check for voltage, set meter to correct setting. If getting power at plug for light ALL is good and it is your bulb

Lamp will not light

At first i was thinking the ballast had gone bad but after reading a few other post i think it would be best to call pannasonic..
others forums read:
ballast had gone bad. Panasonic no longer makes these ballasts so mine needed to be rebuilt at the tune of $400.00.

With the ballast in place still nothing so now they claim that they need to order a "kit" from Panasonic which basically is all the components of my tv.
