Question about Nikon Coolpix 5700 Digital Camera

1 Answer

I have a new compactflash card, which I formatted to my older Nikon Coolpix 5700 camera. When I put the card in the camera, the monitor shows that it is "out of memory" and wont allow me to take pictures. I can still use the old memory card, but I know it needs to be replaced soon.

I just inserted a new 8GB memory card but it tells me ''OUT OF MEMORY'' I tried to format it but still gives me the same message. Why is that and what can I do about it please?

The memory card you are trying to use in the camera is not supported. This camera is an older technology that can not recognize the large 8 GB memory capacity of the card. In fact, the largest approved card your camera will recognize is 1 GB.

The list of approved memory cards was obtained from the Nikon Site directly, and pasted below for your convenience.

Nikon has tested the following cards and approved their use in the Coolpix 5700:

CompactFlash memory cards:
SanDisk SDCFB series 16 MB, 32 MB, 48 MB, 64 MB, 96 MB, and 128 MB
Lexar Media 4× USB series 8 MB, 16 MB, 32 MB, 48 MB, 64 MB, and 80 MB
Lexar Media 8× USB series 8 MB, 16 MB, 32 MB, 48 MB, 64 MB, and 80 MB
Lexar Media 10× USB series 128 MB and 160 MB
Lexar Media 40x USB WA series 256 MB*
Microtech International Digital Flash Film 1GB*
Delkin eFilm 650MB Pro*
Ritz Big Print 8x 256MB* (Edge Code 0E1B)

Microdrive cards:
DSCM-10512 512 MB
DSCM-11000 1 GB

I put in a Compact Flash Card and format with camera and I get a message that it tells me out of memory

I HAD THE SAME PROBLEM. FOUND OUT THAT THE CAMERA WILL NOT WORK WITH A 4GB COMPACTFLASH CARD. APPARENTLY IT CANNOT RECOGNIZE THAT MUCH MEMORY, SO IT SAYS IT HAS NONE. I PUT A 1GB CARD IN IT AND IT READS IT FINE. THESE CAMERAS WERE INTENDED FOR USE WITH A 1GB OR LOWER CARD. (HARD TO FIND IN STORES, BUT LOT'S ONLINE.) THE INSTRUCTION MANUAL SPECS 512MB OR 1GB CARDS.

Put a new 4gig card in as I lost the old 1

I verified that I cannot format my 4 GB cards in the Coolpix 5700. This camera simply cannot use large memory cards. You should get a 1 GB card for this camera (I verified that 1 GB cards do work).

What sort of memory card does the nikon 5700 take

Don't buy a CF card bigger than 2mb - the camera will not write to it.

Trying out new 4G SanDisk cf memory drives in Nikon Coolpix 5700

Not sure if this helps, but it worked for me on a Coolpix 5000.
I tried a 4Gb card, and the camera formatted it and reported out-of-memory. The problem seams to be that that max 2Gb is supported

What I did was partitioned the card into 2 sections with 2Gb on each. I then formated them to FA16.
This worked - but you can only use half of the card (i.e. 2Gb)

For the tools I used a Linux laptop with CF reader. The tools are build in here (fdisk and mkdosfat). I don't know how to do it on windows.

COOLPIX 5700

Nikon approved CompactFlash memory cards up to 256MB in size for the 5700. The 5700 may be able to handle cards as large as 1GB, but I haven't tested this personally. When this camera was introduced in 2002, 256MB was a really big card. Many older cameras can't handle the 2GB, 4GB and larger cards we're seeing today.

Nikon coolpix 5700 shows no memory left after purchasing a new card & batteries

The largest CompactFlash card that Nikon approved for the 5700 is 256MB, which is what I'm using in my 5700. That's small by today's standards and you probably won't even find it in stores. I see some web sellers have 256MB cards for only $6 or so. Other commercial card sellers on the web claim that the 5700 will handle CF cards up to 1GB capacity. That's what I might try since online they're selling for as little as $8 plus shipping. Given that the 5700 was introduced in 2002, any cards bigger than 1GB probably won't work.
