Under the top cover of your agitator which usually snaps off or twists off you will find a NUT, undo this nut and washer then lift the agitator off, you will find a splined shaft, attempt to wash with not clothes in it if the shaft is agitating you will require a new agitator for the spline has worn off the inside of the agitator if there is no agitation than the transmission is likely defective

I have a700 series top loader washer, and the agitator wont agitate,it will spin, but wont agitate why?

The agitator itself is stripped or loose is one possibility. Take agitator off to see if it is damaged.

Washer agitator wont turn!

what do you mean wont turn, do you mean when it spins that agitator is stationary ? in that case you need a new transmission. if you mean that in a dual action agitator that you can spin the agitator top left and right with no resistance / the bottom doesnt move either, then you will need new agitator dogs. remove the top of the agitator and i mean the cap, some have fabric softner dispensers on the top, which means pull the green tab up and the dispenser will come off, then you remove the cap to the agitator. under that is the agitator cam. you either need a 11mm socket to take it off, or you will need a 1/2 in ratchet and extension to take it off. after that it should be very easy to replace the agitator dogs

+whirlpool LSQ8243HQ0 water valve works. wont wash or spin. new motor coupling and timer.

Under the agitator you have what is called (agitating dogs). The agitator will have to be removed. The top should spin off, you will be able to look down into the agitator and see a bolt. Remove this bolt and the agitator can be pulled out. The agitators are small pieces of plastic with small teeth. These teeth get worn out over time or if the washer is overloaded. When the agitator free spins one way the teeth grab a (gear) on agitator and this is how you get the washing action (agitating). These dogs are easy to replace and cost about $5. Assuming you have a top loader, because a front loader does not have an agitator, the spindle that holds the agitator securely in place has worn down to the poing that it won't turn. They are usually made of rubber and has grooves in it and fits into a the agitator. The grooves are worn out. Replace them from an appliance store and you should be in good shape.

Loose Agitator

Usually, there is a bolt that holds the agitator on. If you remove the cap off the center of the agitator, you should find a bolt underneath that you can tighten back down. Adding a little thread lock to the bolt wont hurt.

Washer wont agitate with med - large loads

Without knowing the age of your machine, your agitator "dogs" may be wearing or worn out. It should be fairly easy to check them out. You will need to figure out how to remove the agitator Usually the agitator will have a fabric softener dispenser or a cap on the top. Pull the dispenser/cap off the top of the agitator and you may see a screw holding the agitator in place. Once you lift the agitator out, the "dogs" should be visible. Most appliance stores should carry the dogs for your particular washing machine. I've added a couple of photos so you have an idea what to look for.

Black powder under the motor??? The motor uses carbon "brushes" to electrically make the motor move. Without going into motor theory, I would tell you that the black powder, in a small amount, is normal. The brushes can be replaced, and again, can be found at most major appliance dealers
