We have a Maytag triple cool climate contraol model MDF2561HEQ. I can post a pic of the control panel if you need it

  • demsharkh Apr 29, 2010

Still working on a photo. My photo was to big to post. Yes I had the D and the F switched on the model #. I tried unplugging it for an hour but it didn't do anything. I still can't change any of the setting. It did sound like a motor or something was trying to work in the back of the top shelf.

  • demsharkh Apr 29, 2010

Someone else suggested unplugging it for an hour or so to see if it resets. I tried that it did nothing. You can hear a motor turn on for a second and than turn off in the back of the top shelf. The buttons in the front still light up and look like they're working but when you press them they don't change. And the door alarm does not go off when teh door is left open.

I found part # AP4358837 It's about $125 does that sound like the right part.

Replaced control board. no change. Has power but buttons still wont work. Removed housing for the damper control-unplugged refrigerator and plugged back in. Damper opened and closed on its own. Still no change in temp. Could the damper control motor still need replaced? What about the little Thermocouple/thermometer thingy that clips in next to the control board? Could that be reading the wrong temp? (grasping at straws here) Is there a way to rig the damper so as to "trick" it to see if cold air will even flow to the refrigerator? Last, should I unplug for an hour again-even with the new board installed?

Defrost can be the cause for your refrigerator not cooling problem. To check to see if you have a defrost problem, look in the freezer to see if there is ice build up on the evaporator cover. (The evaporator covers are either in the back of the freezer or on the bottom of the freezer). If there is ice build up. Look behind the kick plate and find the defrost control. If the defrost heater gets hot, replace defrost control. If it doesn’t get hot, then the problem is either the heater or the thermostat.

At this point, you need to melt the ice. The best way to melt the ice is to use either a hair dryer or by using hot water (this will be faster but will make a mess).
Once the ice is gone, you can check the heater by unplugging wires and using an ohmmeterto check for continuity. If you have continuity, the heater is good and you should replace thermostat. If you don’t replace the heater, at this point you won't be able to check the thermostat but if the heater is good replace it.

The cold control can also be the cause for your refrigerator not cooling problem. This is the least likely of all the problems but happens sometimes. Turn the control up all the way and tap on it. If the refrigerator comes on then replace cold control. If it still doesn’t come on, it may still be bad. You can check it by first unplugging the refrigerator and taking the control out and test it with an. ohmmeterUnplug the wires and see if you have continuity between the terminals, if not replace control.

Hello. The cold for both the freezer and the fridge comes from the freezer. The fact that the fridge is warm and the control panel isn't working are related. Replace the control panel and you will be up and running. Joe

I would suspect the control panel Since the control panel doesn't seem to be working and it is responsible for controlling the damper (vent) from the freezer where the cold air comes from for the fridge cooling. The evaporator fan in the freezer blows it through and should be running when the compressor is.

The electronic control board is most likely dead. Necessary troubleshooting must be undertaken to determine the source of the problem but that will require more information such as the exact make and model number of the refrigerator.

Sorry for the delayed response due time zone constraints. It will help if you can post a picture of the control board. Double check the model number; it could be MFD2561HEQ instead of MDF2561HEQ.

Unplug the refrigerator for at least an hour to allow the controls to reset. Please post a picture of the control panel.

The sound of the motor you hear is coming from the damper control motor which is responsible in controlling the air flow from the freezer compartment into the refrigerator compartment. Controlling the air flow controls the temperature of the refrigerator compartment. This should be the problem making the refrigerator compartment warm. Either the damper is stuck in the close position making the damper control motor shut off as soon as it drives the damper. The air damper control assembly is part number 67003903 and it costs about $40.

Disconnect power prior to servicing to avoid the risk of electric shock.

Remove the louvered cover off the damper control housing by squeezing down on louvers to release from housing then remove the two screws holding the housing to the rear wall.

Remove the damper control housing then remove the foam insert by pulling it out. Unplug the damper control wiring harness then unclip the damper control from the tabs to remove it. Reinstall it in reverse of the removal steps.

The CRUSH button may be stuck in the on position. Unplug the refrigerator then as it is plugged back press and hold the CUBE button then dispense ice to check if it still crushed. You may need to unstuck the button if that is the case or replace the control button assembly.

What is the part number of the control you replace? You should have checked the display PCB and the keypad assembly. A key may be stuck causing all keys not to work or the display PCB is faulty.

Refridgerator beeps

Fridge keeps beeping: The following is for Frigidaire models but others can be addressed similarly.

Several Frigidaire refrigerator models have an electronic control panel on the freezer door the owner can use to adjust the internal temperature, dispense ice and water and receive notification about issues such as the need to replace a water filter. The refrigerators also emit a beep for various actions and as an occasional alarm. Determining what causes the beeps necessitates some troubleshooting.
Temperature Controls ·A Frigidaire refrigerator's display panel blinks when the control panel is touched to set temperature controls. After pressing "Freezer Temp" or "Refrigerator Temp" on the keypad, press the arrow buttons within five seconds to increase or decrease the desired temperature. If you do not press the arrow buttons within five seconds after pressing "Freezer Temp" or "Refrigerator Temp" on the keypad, the refrigerator beeps to indicate the current setting will stay in place.

Door Open ·When you leave the refrigerator or freezer door open, the refrigerator beeps. Also, the "Door Ajar" indicator illuminates on the appliance's display panel. Shutting the door and pressing "Alarm Reset" stops the beeping and turns off the "Door Ajar" indicator light.
·The Frigidaire refrigerator has a control lock feature that prevents use of its control panel or dispensers when the unit is locked. When the control lock is active, a beep sounds when a keypad or dispenser is pressed. Release the control lock by pressing the "Control Lock" icon for three seconds. A beep will sound, and the icon's light will go out.
Power Reset ·A power reset is occasionally necessary if the Frigidaire refrigerator's control panel does not work normally or a reset function on the keypad does not work. A power reset involves disconnecting power to the refrigerator by unplugging its power cord from the electrical outlet, waiting 30 seconds and plugging the power cord back into the electrical outlet. When the control panel resets, a beep sounds. If the refrigerator beeps even after a power reset and the beeps' source is not known, contact Frigidaire.

check to see if your fan in your freezer is still working also remove the rear panel inside the freezer and check for any ice blockage if the whole refridgerator turns and freezer turns warm its better to call a qualifed technician that does compressor work

Side by side refridgerator part too warm

Make sure the small door between the freezer and fridge is open. It should be at the top towards the rear on the wall between the fridge and freezer. Thermostat controls its open/closing. And make sure freezer is in fact freezing and you don't just have residual cold in it. Freezer should be about 0 dertees.

GE Side By Side not cooling on refridgerator side.

Look on the back panel inside the freezer for ice beginning to show. Most times when this happens the fresh food section is the first to notice. Your refrigerator has a control board on the back. If not defrosting the air flow to the fresh food section is greatly reduced. Let me know, Sea Breeze

Refridge compartment warm not cooling

I hope the following helps.

Turn the entire control system off for at least two minutes. This will give the computer module time to reset to factory default. Turn of to desired level after two minutes. Should that not work then there is a problem with the timing relay. They relay is brand specific, meaning take the model number to the parts store for a new one.

Your compressor should be fine. You may also remove the power by unplugging the refrig.

CAUTION: Before removing the relay the power to the fridge must be OFF. Failure to have it in the off postion can cause the new relay to short which can lead to mkore problems. So UNPLUG the fridge, remove the relay, replace the relay and then plug fridge back min. Set control to desired cooling level and wait a couple hours. That should do the trick.. IF not then there is an issue with the processor module.

Freezer works but refridgerator warm

you could find ice behind the back panel - worth a check. however the problem is probably ice in the return vent from fridge to freezer and the only way to cure is to switch off and leave for a day with doors open. if im right and you try this, if it re-occurs you may have a problem with the defrost system
