BOSE 901 Guarantee?

I have a BOSE 901 series 1 set of speakers and active equalizer that needs some attention. When we bought these speakers, around 1971, we were told that they carried a lifetime guarantee; is this the truth?

I just had somebody reading your bose problem and he couldn't believe that your speakers were from 1971,, I said look up there, I bought those 901's in 1975 brand new, and the Altec Lansings behind you are from 1968. All in perfect cond, all sound fantastic, and all will blow the windows out. I have got the best surround sound in town. These are some of the few things I have kept for 40 years. Most of the stuff I have can be sold and replaced, not these. Sorry I don't know anything about the warranty, never needed it. I do know that you can buy the individual speakers inside, a bunch of them on ebay.

I have a Bose Acoustimass 6 Series III the receiver is Yamaha 3066, this system is a 5.1 surround sound. Then I bought a pair of Bose 901 Series VI Direct/Reflective speaker system with active equaliz

The setup is possible, but with several compromises. First off, to use the active equalizer, you'll need to insert this into one of the 2 channel AV channels limiting your listening with the equalizer to stereo only. The acoustimass subwoofer acts a driver/power regulator for the little cube speakers. It probably will not be able to drive the 901s at the correct level when attached to the Acoustimass unit as front left/right speakers. You could try running a dedicated set of speaker leads to the 901s which may work and still allow surround sound, but you'll lose the equalization capability on the 901s.

The Bose 901 series V speakers originally came out with brushed aluminum side panels. I have seen several set of series V speakers with wood side panels. Did Bose offer both aluminum and wood side...

I've passed your question on to person (camino3x2) who posted a good article on eBay.

If you're registered with eBay you could ask him any other questions.

I have series V's with brushed aluminum side panels. As you probably know, a 901 system also includes a series-matched Active Equalizer which must be used with it.

Bose 901 series 6 equlaizer problem

Only a careful experiment with steadily increasing volume would reveal the answer. Or measure the resistance of your cobbled work to see if it sufficiently high to avoid amplifier stress.

Original Bose 901 drivers in many series' are available on eBay and other places. I would NOT mix drivers within an enclosure. They should all match in every respect. Bose typically uses some very low impedance that totals to 8-ohms as wired inside.

There are many 'golden ears' who have used 901's without the Active EQ at all or improperly configured and they have been happy with the sound. Sonic beauty is in the ear of the beholder.

I would NOT forgo the EQ.

I have just bought a new bose 901 speaker system which included equalizer. I am not sure how to connect the equalizer to my receiver Denon 3808. I need help.

http://products.bose.com/pdf/customer_service/owners/901_guide.pdf

Be advised, this speaker system requires its own dedicated two channels of signal preamplification and power amplification and the required Active EQ is not to be used in the signal path of anything else. I have them as my Main Left and Right Speakers in a 7.1 set-up, but I'm using a 5-channel external Carver Power Amp to drive them, a sSb and the Rear Surrounds. The Active EQ is between the Receiver's Main L&R Preamp Outputs and the two Carver Amp channels that drive the 901's. Don't think you can just add the 901's into your living room and enjoy multichannel sound. Search around fixya, I have written extensively on this subject.

Bose 901 series speakers to Bose 901 Equalizer

There is no direct connection between the 901's and their Active Equalizer. It is designed to be inserted between the source and the DEDICATED amplifier driving the speakers. Typically, this would be in a Tape Monitor loop on a receiver.

Tape Rec/Out to EQ In; EQ Out to Tape Play/In on the receiver. If you have a tape deck(s), it(they) would go into the back of the Bose EQ as if it was the receiver and you would use the Tape and 1/2 buttons for selection.

Or,if you have access to any other point that doesn't use the Tape Monitor, like a Pre Out/Main In jumper set, place the Equalizer there. That way it's always in front of the speakers and doesn't take up the Tape Mon.

Flip in the Tape Monitor and leave it on or the speakers will not receive the essential ACTIVE Equalization they require for proper frequency response. DO NOT place non-901's onto any amp using the Active EQ.

Like any speakers, the 901's will attach to the speaker terminals in the conventional manner.

- Bose 901 Series I and II speakers have 8 Ohm impedance each.
- A row of 3 speakers in series gives you 24 Ohm.
- 3 parallel rows gives you finally 8 Ohm.

Front with 8 speakers (view from the rear):
