I would call 1-800-4MYXBOX and tell them the problems youre having with what is a relatively new machine.
Xbox realized that the consoles were peppered with problems like this and extended the warranty from one year to three.

every DVD drive is "married" to the motherboard. They both have a special key that keeps them together. Without that key the motherboard will not accept the DVD drive and it won't be able to play games ever again. You can extract the key from you old DVD drive and "spoof" it to the new one. That's the only way it'll work.

the laser is faulty its not a very difficuty job to do yourself and you can get a laser off ebay cheap enough
just make sure you get the correct laser for the drive,
google ebox 360 drive types and you will see what make of dvd you have, if you need help dissmantling the xbox or installing the laser youtube is amazing for it all, hope you get sorted.
