I came home and one or more of the electric stove top elements were on even though the knobs indicate that they are off. Model# FEFL78CQC Serial# VF40905445 What do you think? I unplugged it and took of the back and see no wiring issues. Please advise, Thanks, Jim Kelley

Are the plastic knobs wore out,or been rmoved? They may have not been putback on in te correct position, which would leave them on when they tellyou that they are off. otherwise, look for a short in the wiing leading from the knobs to the affected burners. sometimes the wires under there melt ad cause shorts. remove the burners and then lift up the top of the stove to gain access.

I have a Kenmore Electric Range model number 790.9537*The light on the stove is saying that one of the elements is on even though all the knobs are turned off. Please tell me how to reset this. Thanks

I don't know much about electric ranges, but if the element in question is functional, but it is dead cold when turned off, then there is obviously a short in the mechanism which monitors the on/off status of the element. I'd call Sears and explain what is happening. Might be you are lucky and it is still under warranty? I wouldn't ignore this. Could be a fire hazard.

THE COOKTOP WONT HEAT UP. BUT THE LIGHT ON THE CONTROL KNOB LIGHTS.

My first guess would be to check for proper connection at the wires from the stove body to that specific heating element.
Perhaps, lift-off or open the cook-top cover, and check the hook-up to the heating element itself.
How old is your stove, and is it fitted with the common "coil type" elements? Unless it's a very late, high-tech model, capable of checking its own wiring, the indicator light will illuminate regardless of an open circuit to the heating element because older models can't "see" or "know" whether something has come loose, so the indicator light will come on, and just sit there, cold and clueless.
Bon Apetit!!

I need help with my electric stove wanna clean and take top off but can't figure out if I can or not and don't even know what kind it is to look it up I found its serial number / model but can't figure out...

Unplug the stove. Once this is done, you can disconnect the View all achievements »elements by unplugging them from their connector. You can then lift up the top to clean underneath and around. This is a GE stove, and the data plate will provide the model and serial number. They are normally located on the back or on a easy accessible location like near the over door.

If you need a user manual, try Googling the user name and model number and the word manual.

Always do this type of work with the stove unplugged to prevent electrical shocks or possible burns.

Cooking element on stove top goes on full heat, even when dial is set on low.

Electric, I presume. Disconnect power to stove, open backsplash, remove knob, replace control unit.(usually universal type). Available appliance repair shop. Careful with 220volt power!!!!

I have a Simpson electric oven with stove top elements, and one of the burners will only cook at the highest level, I cant figure out how to change it, any suggestions?

You need to change the "Simmerstat", take the model number to your local electrical parts supplier/parts counter at your local stove retail shop that sells Simpson stoves and ask for one for that model, make sure you get the right one for the position as some control a single element and some control dual elements.

*** TURN OFF THE WALL SWITCH AND ENSURE NO POWER IS APPLIED TO THE STOVE BEFORE PROCEEDING ****
Remove the upper back panel of the stove. Swap wire for wire of the old simmerstat to the new one, remove the knob from the old Simmerstat, undo the nut securing the simmerstat in the oven control panel and discard, fit new one, secure, fit knob, fit back panel, turn on wall switch and test.

Some countrys/states require registered electricians perform this task on electrical appliances so you must ensure you can do this legally before you start and take the relevant safety precautions and don't electrocute yourself.

Burner will not turn off

I would first check the infinite control switch (#WB24T10029) the part the knob slips onto. The next thing I'd check is the erc (#WB27T10231) control board. Hope that is helpful!
