HP 6910p will not boot upon restart. If the laptop is off and you hit the power button, it will start and load Windows just fine. However, if you are in Windows and tell the computer to restart, it shuts down programs and logs off, but will not boot back into Windows... just sits there at a blank screen. Thoughts?

I need to do some major clarification. I wiped the machine and I still cannot get it to reboot properly with ctrl+alt+del. The problem does not seem to be OS related. Funny thing is, it has no problem booting when powered on with the power button. I was thinking CMOS or BIOS, but I replaced the motherboard recently and flashed the BIOs to make it current.

It shuts off fine when told to do so. There are no beeps when it fails to boot.

I should add that I am a computer technician with almost 10 yrs experience. This one has me fairly stumped. I've replaced the mb, battery, hard drive and cd drive. All HP tests pass - indicating no problems with the hardware.

If you have having boot problems and the system keepsrestarting, then turn off the computer, then hit the power button andimmediately start hitting the F8 key repeatedly until you see SAFE MODE. Scrolldown past Safe Mode and you will see an option to DISABLE AUTOMATIC RESTART.Take the Disable Automatic Restart option. This should allow you to see an error message if one is being presented.

Hp 6910p laptop wont turn off. Fan running. what gives?

Something is keeping it from shutting down. This could be caused by a faulty application or driver. My suggestion is to hold the power button down until the unit completely shuts down. Take out the battery, unplug the ac-adapter, attempt to power it on and then put the battery back in. Attempt to restart the computer.

Good Luck!
