This means the sim you have is a samsung only sim. This means text will only come through from other samsung connections.
the best advice i could give is go to a samsung shop and explain that you dont want that one get your money back and buy a new one.
I have had the same problem for ages. I have got around it by stil using predictive text but when you have finished typing the word dont press space. Press "right" to take you to the end of that word then space then you can the type your next word. You have to press right after every word but it's better than texting without predictive.
Many times it is due to shock. Sometimes moisture. If it is shock........remove the battery and let the phone dissipate to ground for a day. If it is moisture or humidity, let the phone set in a well lit room in direct sun for a day with the battery removed.
