SOURCE: Noisy spin cycle

Hey ****, what you are hearing is the spin bearing. Maytag redesigned the bearing kit on this washer, there must of been a lot of leaks causing the bearing to go bad. They put out a service flash...TDL-0060-B. New seal and bearing kit, part number12002470. You may want to contact Maytag on this for it could be covered. I know you have 5 years warranty on the transmission and If they change that, they have to use a new seal and bearing. Catriver...post back.

If you have the topload maytag as listed, It is possible for a transmission to have both symptoms, but it doesn't usually happen as you describe. If something came apart inside the clutch causing the shaft to pull up and keep the brake released, but also allowed the clutch to slip, this is possible.

I would suspect a brake or thrust bearing or both before a transmission. If you are able to turn the basket easily by hand, the brake is not applying for some reason. The thrust bearing will wear down so that it doesn't completely release the brake causing a slow spin. I find these two parts to cause more trouble than transmissions, but I do find bad transmissions occasionaly also.  Post back if you want to know how to check them.

SOURCE: maytag washer repair

I had the repair guys out 3 months ago maytag paid for labor I paid $150 for seal and bearings, tub froze and belt broke. the tub now is making the loud screams that others complain about I contacted maytag and reapir servce and talked with the tech. this machine is a piece of S$%^ the seal fails on a regular basis and bearings get water in them. I just missed my 3 month waranty and will not pay for that repair again. people at home depot agree that this machine is trouble. the machine must be taken completely down from the top to replace the bearings and or the belt. the tub must be removed. If you call maytag they will pay for the labor but not the parts.

Sounds like your gear casing is broken inside, motor is spinning but transmission shaft where agitator sits on, is not spinning.

The machine doesn't spin properly and doesn't drain the water

see this causes and fix it. God bless you
Lid Switch Assembly If the washer won't spin the lid switch assembly might be defective. This is a very common problem. The lid switch assembly can fail either mechanically or electrically. Test any electrical switches with an Ohm meter for continuity. The switches should have continuity according to their design.

Motor Coupling If the washer won't spin the motor coupling might have failed. The motor coupling connects the motor to the washer transmission. It is designed to fail if the washer is overloaded in order to protect both the motor and transmission. Another common problem is the lid switch.

Drive Belt If the washer won't spin, check the drive belt. If the belt is broken or if it isn't tight on the pulleys the washer won't spin properly.

Door Lock Motor and Switch Assembly If the washer spin the door lock assembly should be checked. The door lock can fail either mechanically or electrically. Test any switches on the door lock with an Ohm meter. The switches should have continuity according to their design.
Motor Control Board If the washer won't spin the motor control board might be defective. The motor control board provides power to the motor as well as direction and force. If the motor control board is defective the washer may not work at all or function properly.

Drive Block If the washer won't spin the drive block might be worn out or may have come loose. Underneath the agitator the drive block connects the inner tub (the one that spins around) to the transmission. If the drive block wears out the transmission shaft will still spin but the tub may not - or it may spin slowly. This also usually causes a lot of noise. The drive block is relatively easy to replace.

Clutch Assembly If the washer won't spin, the clutch assembly might be worn out. The clutch assembly makes the connection between the transmission and the inner tub. It is designed to allow the tub to get up to the proper spin speed gradually. As the clutch wears out it may prevent the tub from spinning. The clutch is not repairable, if it is loud or not working properly it will need to be replaced.

Clutch Band kit If the washer won't spin, the clutch band kit might be worn out. The clutch makes the connection between the transmission and the inner tub. It is designed to allow the tub to get up to the proper spin speed gradually. As the clutch wears out it may prevent the tub from spinning. If the washer won't spin, this clutch band kit may need to be replaced.

Drive Motor If the washer won't spin the drive motor might be defective. This is not common. Check all of the other related parts to this symptom before replacing the motor. If the motor is visibly burned out or physically damaged It will have to be replaced.

Tub Bearing If the washer won't spin the tub bearing might have seized. This is a common problem and relatively easy to replace.

Tub Seal and Bearing Kit If the washer won't spin the tub seal and bearing might have seized. This is a common problem and relatively easy to replace.

Bearing If the washer won't spin the bearing might have seized. This is not common. The bearing doesn't require any normal maintenance. They generally go bad when the tub seal fails and allows water to leak past into the bearing.
Basket Drive If the washer won't spin the basket drive clutch might be worn out. The basket drive sits on top of the transmission and engages with the inner tub. If the basket drive wears out the tub won't spin.

Basket Drive Hub Kit If the washer won't spin the basket drive hub might be worn out. The hub is a set of plastic gears underneath the agitator. The basket drive hub kit is easy to replace with standard hand tools.
Transmission If the washer won't spin the transmission might be worn out or defective. There are numerous more likely causes when a washer won't spin, which should be checked first.

I have a maytag model A312 washer that has worked fine for almost 30 years. Wash cycle works with water pouring in but the barrel will not spin. I cannot even force it to spin around. Any suggestions...

Hello, Awesome Maytag washing machine. Sound like that wonderful Maytag transmission has finally gone to transmission retirement center. I think they might have rebuilt transmission for your Maytag washing machine. Check with your local Appliance Repair Shop---Maytag---. Ask them if they have a transmission but I am thinking here, it could be belt driven. If it is belt driven, empty the washing machine and be careful when turn over your washing machine. There is two concrete block that hangs on a self leveler to keep you washing balanced during the spin cycle.

Also, check for oil under your washing machine and if there oil then your washing machine has a transmission and it is leaking. Well, Tracy you can try the few thing that I mentioned here. But remember I am only suggesting you try these thing and if you don't fell like you can't handle it. Then get your neighbors and friends to help you, please. GB...stewbison

Maytag washer Model # MAV9557 that tries to agitate while in the spin cycle

If you can do it yourself you can save some cash, but if not, the transmission repair won't be as much as a new one. If it is in great shape and about half the cost of a new one, it makes sense to fix it.

Maytag LAT9356AAE drive pulley stuck during spin cycle

I had the same problem called a repair guy who told me the transmission is ceased up and the main bearing and seal is shot. Told me that Maytag uses defective parts in their machines and recommended direct-drive washer. Repair would cost more than to buy new. Sorry!

MAYTAG Wahing machine model MAV6000AWQ

I believe your machine is equipped with a "snubber plate" under the transmission. A lot of Maytag top-loaders are. This is a white teflon ring that is used as the wash tub and transmission support and assists in dampening vibrations during the spin cycles. It's located on the inside case of the machine under your transmission. When the snubber goes bad they generally start to squeak. They cannot be lubricated and must be replaced. If you try to oil them, they will eventually disintegrate. The snubber costs less than $10 to purchase. I hope this helps.
