Channels are not available on phillips tv

I have standard cable when I put the cable into the back of the tv and turn it on I cannot change the channel it says "channel not available"

phillips tv (25ST220L/17) will not allow me to go higher than a certain number of channels either. Read something in the online manual (tv was given to me, no remote control, either) that said you can change it from commercial setup to consumer, but you must have one of their remotes to do so? Any way around this?

    Thanks

This can be that the tv is not set up to "cable" in the menu. it may be on "antenna" so you would need to switch this to cable. another problem is that you may have to get a converter box for each unit. Comcast has a converter box that you have to get to make the channels show up now that the digital over the air boxes are out. if using the said box you have to have the tv on channel 3 or 4.

Most likely the tuner or connections to it.
The tuner is the small silver box that the cable screws on to.
The most obvious connection to check is the cable.
Take it off and put it back on.
Since this TV has to be connected to something else to get a picture, you can use the audio and video inputs
Just put the TV on AUX instead of channel 3, and change the channels with the cable box/ converter the same as you always have.

Cannot function to cable? what will i do? they did not give any manual when i purchase

Standard CRT TVs generally have a couple of inputs that BYPASS the tuner portion built into the TV. If you are using a standard coaxial connection you should see the signal from your cable box on either channel 3 or 4 (you may have to set your TV to search for signals in the TV's setup menu). Otherwise you may be able to use a composite connection that uses a cable with tree plugs (red, yellow and white). When these are plugged into the cable box out put and the corresponding plugs on the tv, then tune to "input 1" or "input 2" by changes the channel downward below channel two. You should see your cable signal. Then you change channels using the cable box only and not the tv. Your manual may be available at no charge from the manufacturer's website.

Sony KV-20S40 stuck on channel fix

I have just got a kv-20s43 and your best bet is to try to restore settings, here, To reset TV to factory settings, turn the TV on, Then, while pressing the reset button on the remote control, press POWER on the TV. The TV will turn itself off, then back on, the original settings wiill be restored... definition: ch. fix- 2-6: Select when you want to control all channel selection through a cable box. Select the appropriate channel(usually 3 or 4) and use the cable box's remote control for channel selection. VIDEO: select from available inputs when you have connected video equipment and you want your TV fixed to it.

I have an older emerson tv that I can not get to pick up channels above 36. It is pluged directly into my cable outlet. When I hook up another tv it will get around 90 channels. Is there a setting I can...

I doubt that there is a setting built or designed in your tv, older tv tuning systemslike yours were designed for what was back then available as far as channel capability(cable ready sets)what ypu can do is get a cable converter and get the channels thru the box or if you have a vcr hooked up you can always select channels thru te vcr tuner if the tuning system in the vcr is newer. thanks!

Screen has black box with greek letters on channel

If you put the TV on CH 3 and use a VCR (if available) to change channels you'll know if it's the TV or cable channel (sound like the channel)

Some of the older sets were just that way. It is best to have the cable plugged into the tuner before you plug the set back up. It should automatically find all available channels upon being plugged in and turned on... will help to know the model of the set.

Channel selection

What you need to do is take the remote, go into the menu, find channel scan and do a channel scan to find all the available stations available on this system. Make sure the TV set is in the cable mode and not antenna mode or you wont get any stations above channel 13.
