Did you do the work on the carbs? Do you have the equipment and expertise a pro uses to balance the carbs? If you had this done by a pro, take it back amd make them fix it.
You are right, this is dangerous and expensive. I suggest you have a Yamaka shop take a look at your motorcycle.
Visions have a prob with the yisair box screw gromots cracking and this can cause air sucking and high idle as well if the manifolds are ok. This was a problem with mine :)
You say the carbs were overhauled were the rubber inlet manifolds replaced sounds like it is sucking air

The motorcycle idled 1250 cold. I found the main idle screw and lowered to one thousand. I do not know why but the problem went away and it is a sweet ride. It is a great feeling to know that if I have a problem with anything that this websight has caring and sharing individuals that will get you through the low spots and save the day.
