Question about Garmin nuvi 350 GPS Receiver

1 Answer

Our nuvi 350 has been sitting in its box for several months/need it now for a trip and cannot get it to charge. Could it possibly need a battery? Worked fine last time we needed it.

You've most likely correctly diagnosed the fault for yourself.

Lithium rechargeable batteries like the one in your Garmin are damaged if stored uncharged for any length of time, so you'll need to replace the battery. They're not designed to be user-replaceable on most Garmins, but if you search the web for "nuvi 350 battery" you should easily find a supplier and there will be videos to show you how to do it on your model or a closely related model. Click here for one example of an instructional video.

I haven't given you a link to a battery supplier as I don't know which country you're in nor whether you want an original (Garmin) battery, a generic compatible battery or one of the upgrade versions which give longer battery life. Personally, I'd recommend that you avoid the latter type as a new standard capacity battery usually has plenty of life in it when charged.

Good luck and please take a moment to rate my answer.

Nuvi 760 will not take charge

I don't know which of the three ways you're trying to charge - car cradle, via USB cable to a computer or via accessory AC adapter. An 18 month old 760 should still have a good battery.

If you are using your car cradle to charge consistently, use one of the other methods and allow the 760 to charge for 8 hours. Use of the car cradle can cause the 760 to stop taking a charge after a while, and switching to one of the other methods should "refresh" the internal battery. Since the AC adapter wasn't included in the box, the USB cable method is likely your only other choice. While connected to your computer, you should download & update the 760's firmware. It's fast and free - and could solve other potential issues. Get the WebUpdater software direct from Garmin.

It is also possible that the fuse in the cigar lighter plug has opened. Disassemble the the plug to check for and replace a blown fuse.

If unable to get the 760 to accept a charge, you might need to replace the battery. There are several sources for batteries - but a free call to Garmin Support should be your first move.

Please rate this reply and good luck!

Smart2200RMXL2U shows no sign of life after storage

These units, while hot swappable, will NOT start with dead batteries connected.

You will have to replace the batteries to confirm if the unit is still usable. Sealed Lead Acid Batteries do have a shelf life when a charge is not applied and will fail after several months of sitting around.

If your unit was working fine before it was put in storage, I definitely would consider just replacing the batteries. It is possible that the batteries are connected loosely, you can try opening the unit up to double check all the connections but if it has been sitting for more than a couple months, I would definitely consider the batteries dead.

You can find replacement batteries here http://www.refurbups.com/Tripplite-SMART2200RMXL2U-Batteries

I can't get my Garmin Nuvi 350 to update. It acts dead unless it's plugged into a PC or the wall.

What are you trying to update? Its very possible that your battery is bad and wont take a charge. Please see this link:

http://www.sharc.net/gps_battery_repair.htm

Also NEVER try to update your unit with a bad battery or a uncharged battery.... you WILL screw up the firmware upload and brick your unit.

Nuvi 350 will come on but will not stay on

The internal batteries are not user replaceable. Please don't try to do this yourself. I've received numerous emails from people who have destroyed the Nuvi attempting to do this. I have replaced numerous Nuvi batteries. The life of the battery depends on how many cycles its gone through.

Garmin nuvi 350 9 months old

Have you ever tried updating the firmware with garmins webupdater?
Have you had this issue with a fully charged battery.
Do you hear anything rattle in the device when you shake it....I had a spIII color with similar issues, found out that one of the circuit board mounting screws was travelling around in the case.
If this is the case, and you are tech savvy you could open the GPS and probably find the culprit. If not ship it back to Garmin, for it is still under warranty.

Have you used the wall charger to fully charge the battery? If the battery is too low after lying around for a month it wil not start, giving it a couple of minutes of charging wo'nt help either, a good and full charge will!

Garmin nuvi 360 power problem

You'll need to open the case and replace the battery. Batteries can be purchased online here or a couple other places on the web by searching for "nuvi 360 replacement battery". I'd get the 1400mah or greater for a replacement, it'll burn a little longer than the weaker models. If the unit operates when plugged into the charger, then the fuse and cable are good. Open the case by removing the retaining screws, then carefully prying the unit apart. The new battery simply plugs into the connector after removing the old one.
