Question about Acer Aspire 3690 Notebook
My Acer laptop has acted up for awhile now. It will power up and stay on, but the screen stays black. I used to be able to get a picture on the screen if I squeezed the top corners of the screen really hard (horrible thing to do, I know lol) but as soon as I released pressure it would turn black. Now it wont even show the screen when I do that. I hooked it up to an external monitor and it worked fine. What part (or parts) need to be replaced?
Thank you in advance for your help! :)
Your problem can be caused by the back-light bulb, the inverter board but also the connector.
Because the squeeze works that can be the connector or the ribbon cable that feeds up along the side of the display. To check those you have to take apart the display and check the connections to see if they are loose or the cable damaged. Usually the connector at the bottom of the screen is the one that gets worked loose by the screen being shut. You just need to unplug and plug the connectors back in. It can also be a grounding screw or strap that is screwed in by the lower left corner under the hinges.
If that doesn't check out to be the problem then you can move on to replacing the inverter board and/ or the CCFL emitter..The board is worth about $60 and the CCFL about $12. The board is a PK070005T00 or a PK070007U00.
I don't know where you are located so I can't provide a url for someone close. There are plenty of good sources for these parts so it is good to keep shipping down and order from someone close to home. To find someone just search using google or bing and the words Acer Aspire parts or Acer replacement parts. You will find quite a few so once you find one then look for the parts listed for your Acer. Then make a note of availability and shipping. And have a look for instructions on the website. Some parts places will have either videos or pictorial instructions showing you how to replace the parts. This isn't hard other than the trick of getting the plastic apart without resorting to a hammer.
So you may find that the parts will come from one place but another has the instructions. It should take you about a half hour to change the parts and get things back together. As a suggestion it is worth ordering a new battery or other parts at the same time.
Here are a couple of links to repair parts, but i would still recommend searching for a close one.
