Thank you for your question.

In this case, my opinion would be that the SATA Driver needs to be installed from floppy disc before the install of Windows. It is at the beginning of setup at the bottom of the screen in black writing on a grey background for Windows XP. It says "Press F6 if you need to install other drivers". This is your cue to press F6, the install will load drivers from there to enable the SATA on your motherboard.

If you do not have the motherboard discs, I have attached the link to the makers download page for your motherboard, you can obtain the SATA driver from here.

Good luck with your install.

Kind regards

I have hdd sata and i want to setup win xp on it but i cant winxp can not cont

Check your BIOS setup for the SATA interface settings. If it's set to "Native" or something to that effect, change it to "Compatible" or "IDE" or similar, and try installing XP again.
As a last resort, you may need to supply SATA drivers for your motherboard (unpacked, with all the individual files visible) during the setup, when it says something like "press [something] to supply 3rd party device driver". The problem is, that Windows expects it on a diskette...

The Bios of MSI PM8M can not recognize SATA HDD. Please tell me how I can make this Bios recognize SATA.

You must check if SATA is enable in your BIOS. Sometime there is jumper which prevent this.

My sister has this bundled computer using a msi pm8m-v-7104 MB version 1.0. It has a sata HD in it but I don't see it in the bios and when I try to reinstall windows xp it says it cant find a hd to install...

HI t_hammer2003.

FIrst off, make sure that the sata cable is firmly seated on the drive and the board. When you turn on the computer listen for the drive to spin up. If you don't hear the drive try another sata port, and listen again. If they doesn't spin up, try another sata cable, listen for spin up again. If you don't get the drive to spin up, then you most likely have a bad drive.

There is one more thing you can do each time you are listening for spin up, is when the computer boots to bios, each time, you can go into bios and manually force the information from the drive to Bios. Sometimes Bios isn't always the most stable, especially since that board is rather dated.

Last effort would be to go and try another drive that you know works, and get the board to boot to dos, and upgrade the bios, it could be that they have never been updataed to patch some of the bios error handling sata hard drives. You can get those on the MSI website.

Good Luck
