Computer noise I own a Sony desktop. The machine has been acting up for a while now. It would start up fine but sometimes while working it will start to make a noise sounds like a fan issue not quite sure but it would continue doing this then all of a sudden it will freeze up. Other times it will not even boot up. Any thoughts??? thanks

Get a can of compressed air and clean out the fans, cpu fan, power supply fan. Could be from dust buildup.

Hope this helps!

My Dell Studio XPS 7100 Desktop Computer has suddenly developed a whirring sound. What could cause this?

That is a fan causing the problem. First thing to do is open the side panel and clean out the dust, sometimes that helps. Next, with the side panel open, turn on the computer and look to see which fan is causing the noise, they are easy to replace. If it is the CPU fan it may be a more involved repair but its usually not too bad.

If the windows7 operating system is 32 bit on one computer and, 64 bit on the other the drivers will not work on both computers. check this and, if this is right; download the correct drivers for each machine and, install them.

My computer makes a loud noise in the fan

The drive door issue may indicate a virus infection. As to the fan, you would have it replaced. If not under warranty open the case and track which fan the noise is coming from

Sony VGC RB53 wont recognize blank writeable cd/dvd's

Insert a blank CD, try to burn something on to the disk, if that is successfully done than the CD drive is fine, unless you have a problem. Sometimes blank discs don't show up with direct click.

Louder whirring noise when turning on computer

trumpjd,
Usually on startup the fans work a little harder then slow down. On newer computers they still have noticable fan noise. Most of what ou hear while the machine is running after start up is the power supply fan. When it starts to go bad you'll hear it all the time.

HP desktop- is not starting up.

Let assume that the machine is fine. Is the display powered? Is the data cable from the display correctly connected.

The reason I am assuming your machine is fine is because it a name brand box. And when a video card fails on an HP you get a series of beeps from the computer. The same goes with the CPU and memory.

So if the machine is not beeping, it's generally one of two things. Connections or, sadly enough, a dead system board.

Hope this little bit of direction helps,

Paul
