Question about Sansui COM0953 Combo
If it has a vcr built in most likely it is Symphonic/Funai made.
For the most part there were never any paper manuals for these units
A photo of the spring and mechanism might tell me where it goes.
What happened a lot in these units is there is a rubber belt that drives the tray and loads or unloaded the cassette. It is very small and if it does not move the mechanism every time the unit is turned on the unit will shut down. It is usually located on a pulley on the back right side of the mechanism.
What happens here regardless of if the unit is used or not is it and another belt get old and stretched and cause problems.
The real problem is the tiny belt also drives the mode gear so replacing it has to be done in just the right way.
My guess is the spring is from down between the two reels that turn the tape and it keeps getting popped off because one of the two belts are bad.
Let me know if you have questions or a photo of the mechanism. I worked on a lot of these when the were first made.
