I have a Gen IV DVR that keeps rebooting.

Possible procedure for another model.

This unit comes packaged with PAL format cameras for use in your region; as such

5.16 Factory Reset
Press the [ SEL] button to restore the unit to default, the DVR will reboot and all
settings (including the password) will be restored to the factory default settings.
Caution: There is no confirmation dialog box after pressing the [ SEL] button!
If you have forgotten your password:
And the unit is not recording; keep the system on the main screen, and then press
the [Pause] button ten (10) times in succession, the DVR will then reboot with default
settings. Note: The default password is the [CH1] button six (6) times.
If the DVR is recording, you will need to disconnect the HDD to force the machine
to stop recording prior to resetting the machine to default. "

Could be a hard drive, power supply or DVR board issue. Try testing each by replacing except the DVR board which you cannot change without a new board. At which point, a new DVR is recommended.

Disconnect the power for about 5 minutes; the wait is to let the internals discharge (5 is minimum, a little longer if you want to), then plug it back in. That will reinitialize the system.

Remove all the cameras then reboot. If it boots up normally then shut down dvr and add a camera and repeat. If it doesn't solve the problem, the issue is probably a video card or motherboard issue and will need to be repaired or replaced.

Hi, Mary with Dish Network Customer Service. Since the DVR is the only thing having the freezing issue, it sounds like it maybe a hard drive issue. I would recommend resetting the receiver. Unplug it from the power supply for 10 seconds and then let the receiver reboot itself. If you are still having this issue, I would recommend calling Dish Network and we will need to replace the receiver. Hard Drive issues do not resolve themselves and only get worse over time. reformat hard drive to accept clean install of windows xp

set bios to boot from CD only after format.

if it doesnt work then...replace hard drive.

Is the cabling from the satellite receiver to the DVR hooked up right. It sounds like it's in single mode, but with the coax cable put on the wrong way.

If you mean will the Gen 5 DVR Station Remote work with a Gen 4 DVR Station, I believe it will for at least the basic player controls on your 604 (except for the alpha keyoard entry because the Gen 4 players did not have this feature enabled).

If you mean, will the Gen 5 DVR Station Remote control your Archos 604 directly (without a dvr dock), the answer is no, you must have a DVR Station for the remote to work on any Archos player.

My RCA dvr 40 did the same.I think it was overheating.I vacumed the fan opening and put small blocks of wood under the legs and that worked for about 3 mos. then it said powering up but wouldnt. i'm now replaceing the unit. Good luck
