SOURCE: no image through view finder or lcd monitor

I saw a solution to this problem posted in another thread, as I was having the same problem with JVC GZ-MG40. Try tapping the top of the camcorder, about 1 inch back from the lens with the tip of a screwdriver or something else hard (key, coin, etc). It worked for me. Now I just have to wait and see how long the solution holds for.

SOURCE: black screen

Sounds like you have a bad CCD. You can try contacting Canon to check out your options on how to get this repaired. Unfortunately the S2IS is not on their CCD recall list of cameras.

There is usually a button for turning the screen on and off, or only on for previewing (browsing images). (and sometimes there is an option for having the screen on without the On-Screen Display)

I don't know exactly which one on your camera... sometimes the up button, sometimes there is a little symbol.

Play with it, and eventually you'll find the right button. =-]

My canon gl2 lcd screen and viewfinder black

Same thing happened to me. No display, no menu, no S-video output while in camera mode, but in VCR mode all was OK. Turning power off and on did not help until I also disconnected the AC power adapter. BTW, Mr. Riggins did not read the question before he answered.

In shoot mode screen is 3/4s black no view

If you can see the normal icons on the LCD but not an image, you probably have a bad image sensor (CCD). See this link for your options.

When i set to camera mode the screen is black in both the view finder and external screen. i can still zoom in and out its just all black. its a canon zr60 (yes the lens cap is off ha ha)

See this link. If you can still see menu items and icons on the LCD, you may have a bad image sensor (CCD). Contact Canon for confirmation and a free repair if this is the problem.

Black LCD and Viewfinder

I have the similar problem as above...Canon 5D

When camera is turned on the viewfinder is black. All other functions appear to be working correctly. I can view pictures on the card. I take a picture and it views on the screen and the spec's come up on the botton of the view finder but the viewfinder is 90 black with a bit of blur. Is this the censor or a mirror...?

Is this fixable and at what approximate cost? Would it be cheaper to replace?

Powershot S1 IS trouble shooting in images of lcd monitor

Try playing back pictures you know were captured properly ( either with another properly working camera or with your camera before the problem with quality has appeared ). If the image is ok in playback but 'noisy' in capture mode then the CCD sensor is faulty /on its way out. Ask Canon if they repair CCD faults on this model free of charge.
