Question about Kenmore 42822 Front Load Washer

1 Answer

Washing cycle keeps stoping after about 5 min from start.

The washing program gets stuck in the same spot. We have to go to drain and spin to bypas/ go around the "stop". The mashine is about 6 years old. I am an electrician if you can give me some hints it be great.

    Kenmore model 110.42822 203

    Type: 199 700WT-GT 12a 120v 60Hz

    It is Kenmore Front Loader

  • jacmycaffe Apr 28, 2010

Here is more info that you requested. The fault appears to be blinkng letters S and H, They alternate. Unit is also "Beeping". Hope this helps you find solution. (Kenmore front loader Model 110.42822 203)

Thanks for the test mode instructions, I am away from the washer so I will try running it tomorrow to see what fails in test mode. When the mashine stops, it displays alternating letter S and H and beeps. I will try test mode as I get home and I may have a question tomorrow. Thanks for now.

  • jacmycaffe Apr 30, 2010

I tried to go to diagnostic mode but after trying your instructions multiple times I couldnt achieve the results. As I select Drain/Spin the displays shows 011 ( time remaining) Then you said press Spin Select button 5 times - I keep pressing Drain Spin 5 times to select no spin ( I don't see "Spin Select" so I assume you mean "Drain/Spin" push button switch?

My Kenmore 110.42822 203 wash mashine has "Prewash" button and that one I am OK.

Pls help me get thru this one.

  • jacmycaffe Apr 30, 2010

To answer your question mashine spins ok, lets water in and drains. It just stops after about 5 minutes and blinks "S" then "H" and display cycles like that while mashine beeps and I am unable to open the door. Unless I push drain mode - nothing happens it won't proceed to next step.

  • jacmycaffe May 01, 2010

Hi, had great leap fwd. With new hint I went to test mode. Mashine goes from the begining until C:03 Hot water inlet valve test and stops there while displaying "F" and "H" . It stays there and doesn't go to next step ( I waited about 5 minutes to see if it moves to C;04, but I guess it stops at the first fault? What do I do next?

  • jacmycaffe May 07, 2010

Thank you for watching over my shoulder. I had problem with hot water flow - resttricted by solenoid valve being clogged. Flushed and got good flow and self test diagnostics run all the way to the end without stopping at c:03.

Thanks and most likely I adone with the repair

The washer may have a provision for error codes when a fault occurs. Specify the exact make and model number of the washer for specific and accurate advice. The accuracy of the troubleshooting depends on the amount of information given.

Is there any flashing code on the Estimated Time Remaining Display, any flashing LED, or a beeping sound when the washer stops.? Does it spin?

  • Jahn27
    Jahn27 Apr 28, 2010

Activate the diagnostic test mode to check the functions of the washer.
Close the door then Select Drain/Spin cycle
with the cycle selector and select No Spin by pressing the Spin Select
button 5 times. Push the Prewash option button 4 times within 5 seconds. If your washer doesn't have the Prewash option, use Rinse/Hold.

    C:00
will display indicating that the test mode is entered successfully. If
unsuccessful, press the Pause/Cancel button then repeat starting the
    sequence.

Push the Prewash button 2 times to advance to the next
step of the test. The last step is indicated by C:08. Check for any
    error code after the test.

  • Jahn27
    Jahn27 Apr 28, 2010

    Here are the test steps:

C:00 - The door is locked to check the door lock system.
C:01 - The cold water inlet valve is activated to check the flow meter and the cold water inlet valve.
C:02 - Distribution System is set to Prewash position to check the dispenser motor and the dispenser contact.
C:03 - The hot water inlet valve is activated.
C:04 - The basket rotates at wash speed to check the motor and the motor control.
    C:05
    - Heater is switched on and basket rotates at wash speed. The washer
fills to the minimum level if there's no enough water in the machine.
C:06 - The drain pump turns on.
C:07 - The basket rotates counterclockwise from 35 to 90 RPM within 15 seconds.
C:08 - The basket rotates with maximum speed.

Thanks for the information. After it is started, about how long before it stops? Does it wash or spin?

  • Jahn27
    Jahn27 Apr 28, 2010

Double check the flashing code. I cannot find such error code, it's probably Sud or FH.

  • Jahn27
    Jahn27 Apr 30, 2010

I mean SPIN SPEED button instead of SPIN SELECT button. My apologies for the mistake. Retry entering the automatic diagnostic mode.

  • Jahn27
    Jahn27 Apr 30, 2010

Unplug first the washer then plug it again and press Control On button, if there's any, before starting the diagnostic test.

Here's the tech sheet for your washer.

  • Jahn27
    Jahn27 May 01, 2010

The central control unit (CCU) which acts as the "brain" of the machine
detected that either water is not entering the machine or the pressure
switch has not tripped 8 minutes after the water inlet valves are
turned on or after the flow sensor has detected 10.5 gallons of water
    passed through it.

Verify if there's water inside the machine; if
there's not, make sure the water supply valves are open, the water fill
hoses are not plugged or kinked, the screens in the water inlet valves
are not plugged, and the water inlet valves are working.

    Check the
drain hose for any leak and for siphoning. Water may drain as the
washer fills due to siphoning and cause the the error to flash. Please
indicate if there's water inside the washer or not when the error code
flashes to determine the specific parts that need to be checked as the
error code may signify a problem in any of the water system components
such as the water inlet valves, flow meter, pressure switch, and the central control unit.

The tub won't drain and it spins very slowly. I've also noticed, over the last couple years, some oil/rust spots on my clothes. It is a top loading washer that is over 20 years old.

Kenmore washer - water won't drain. It stops

If the water drains between the wash and rinse cycles, your motor and pump are probably OK. If this is a machine with a dial, try a different cycle, like normal instead of heavy duty. If that works and the machine completes the entire cycle then the timer probably has a bad spot. You might try to find a replacement timer if that is the case although I didn't have any luck with my 10 year old washing machine. Best of luck

My washing mashine wont spin or drain

hi there,
it sounds like the drain is blocked, check the drain access at the front
for any debris/or coins that may have been left in the pockets of garments, have a good rake around and use a torch, the machine will not spin without pumping out the surplus water so there lies your problem blocked tubes or a faulty water pump.

Had the same problem. The water pump is not working and since it cant drain water it wont spin. A easy fix. There's a magnet located on the water pump thats comes lose. Simply tie it back into place.

Plug off the wall. Clean out your outlet filter. Access is a door in the front bottom of your machine, be prepared for some water to come out. Refit.
