Question about HTC PPC-6800 Smartphone
I just brought this phone and this morning the phone will not turn on. I keep pressing the on/off button but nothing happen. Can you give some advices on what is the problem with this phone. pam
Having a lot of experience with Mobile operating systems, and also having a Mogul myself, it sounds like programs are running in the background and using the memory, hence the slow wake-up or slow performance.
The fact that ActiveSync runs when it wants too doesn't help either.. (see below)
Having weird programs on the memory card can also cause this (it's trying to actually boot from the card for some reason). Try popping the card out and powering it up.
First, I installed a little program which you copy the .cab file to the card called "ClearTemp". Then browse the card through file explorer, and install. You will see a little trash can under the programs list once installed. This will flush any residual files left behind by installing and uninstalling programs. If you're using the "enable gps" GPS "hack" (i use it too with google maps - great program), it may or may not find some of the install files from it, so pay attention to the files it wants to delete, so be sure to read the tutorial about what files are what BEFORE running it, as it may delete needed files!!
You can get ClearTemp here:
You can also check in your windows / startup folder through file explorer on the pda and see what exactly is trying to start when you power it up.
PS: if you want to stop ActiveSync from running whenever it feels like it, take "poutlook" from the startup folder. Sometimes you have to rename it to delete it, sometimes you don't. Deleting it will NOT effect its ability to sync when attached to the PC, it only stops it from running for no reason and using up memory.

Two simple fixes. First go to www.htc.com/us, select the 6800 and download software update. There will be a walkthrough on there if you're not familiar with how to do it. This update (although it doesn't state it does so it doesn't appear they have released a phone with the issues that is has) should fix all hibernation issues. These include the above problem and the phone not recieving calls sometimes when it's hibernating.
2nd- There's a much easier way to removing running programs. Just go to settings, systems and click the memory icon. You can stop all running programs from there or choose which to stop.
Hope this helps.

I have had the same problem, even after being on the charger all night. I have found that it can take as many as a half dozen resets (The recessed buttom on the bottom) before the damn thing wakes up.
My Mogul also freezes frequently during normal use. Sometimes the screen seems to dissolve, usually from the bottom up, in a way that could be considered beautiful, but looks like a failing video driver to me. of course, I am unable to duplicate any of this behavior during any my my three (so far) visits to the Sprint store to ask for a new machine.
I don't know if the culprit is hardware or software, but have kept up with ROM upgrades. When the system is working it's a pleasure to use. (Love the GPS w/ Google Maps) But the more I come to depend on it, the less reliable it is.

Windows Mobile is beautiful and ugly.. Its without a doubt the most versatile and powerful smartphone os.. But oh its definately the most confusing, unintuitive, slow, and buggy.. What does that mean to you?? Windows mobile does not treat light or even medium users very well.. You need to get a buddy in person who can hook your phone up, make a hobby out of this, get a new phone, or like me just appreciate what it does sit down and start reading.. It will take hours to get your phone right.. But once it is right no other phone will come half as close.. I can turn my phone into a wifi hot spot to give your Iphone 3G a more stable hi speed connection.. stuff like that black berries and iphones will never be able to do... I know some S60 (nokia) phones can do it, maybe palm has it but my point is you have alot of work and In my opinion its worth it... But sense Imma nice guy Ill give all of you Mogul users who may read this my setup that works great
Rom- JD's 2.9.1 Rom CE OS 5.2.19971
Today screen- Manilla 2D or M2D or touch flo 2D build 16
App Closer- Wktask and Oxios suite (windows multi tasks most other os' dont windows left a half assed app closer buried in several menus. Stupid I know. So these two and Htc Task manager are great at closing apps)
Internet- Pocket Internet Explorer and Opera 9 are good but Im a fan of Opera Mini (you will need java) and Skyfire
Flashlight- VJCandela (You never realize you need it till you have it)
Gps- Google Maps
that should be enough to get you going good carefully follow the directions when flashing to JD's you have to go through vital steps. JD uses a basic M2D I would update to the full version make sure you read the feedback on what version you use, I am using 16 because some people have had problems with the newer ones. Just have fun with it my phone looks like the touch diamond and it runs the beta android just fine too. Nothing else can do that lol

a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.
