Question about Logitech Trackman Marble Trackball

1 Answer

Track marble is now a piece of junk

I bought and original track marble the flesh colored one with the locking ring to hold the marble. It lasted me for years and finally after years of service it became intermittent and i had to buy a new one. I discovered that i couldn't buy one like the original, so i bought one of the grey ones and quickly discovered that logitech had taken one of the best pointing devices on the market and turned it into a piece of junk. I knew then why they were so much cheaper than the original. I have gone through 4 of them in 8 months. with no locking ring the marble wears off the plastic bumps and then it will also before it soon quits working all together. I am a pro online poker player and use notebook computers i have two top of the line ent. specials and am forced to use a junk pointing device thay i have to buy two at a time. What ever posessed you to take the best pointing device one the market and turn it into a disposable junk. after about a month the marble falls out continusly and then it becomes intermitten before it soon quits working all together. I think if you are going to make disposable junk you should label it as such and drop the price to about 4.98 because that is all they are worth if that. A better solution is to put the original back on the market for those of us who use thier computers several hours a day. They were considerable more money but i would be happy to pay for the original quality. Like I said earlier they were the best pointing device on the market. My son used mine one time and went right out and bought one. Now I tell people to not buy them unless, like me they absolutely have to have one.and it will not last. I think four in 7 or 8 months proves you are now making disposable junk.

P.S. if you have any of the old models laying around i will buy at least two. One to use right away and a spare because my computer is jy livelyhood.

Works intermittently, seems to be the cable. if one moves the cable near the unit to and fro, it connects and disconnects. It's not difficult to replace the 'plug in' cable if they were available as spares. I agree they are the best pointing devices in the short term ,but the manfacturer should be ashamed of the poor build quality. Using cable more suitable to constant movement would solve one of the problems. for £20, it should last five years. Improve the quality or reduce the price drastically.

Contact Cyberguys for a replacement mouse. I have bought several of these in wired and wireless and they last me forever. I have an internet cafe and it is all I will buy for my computers. They also have wireless.

Replacement marble ball where can I get one

Hi
On european english-languaged site of logitech you can find spare part shop

http://www.logitech.com/en-roeu/349/4872?pcid=4872&debug=0

there are only blue balls in 5Eur/piece cost, but looking into some forums I fonud answer that someone succesfully tried if trackman (so marble would too) works with blue ball (of course You should confirm it by finding the same kind of posts on some forums before buying)

Worst of all is they're do not offer posting to USA grrrrr !
Cheapest is posting to Germany (5,51Eur), so if You have someone in Germany, they can send You it to USA

Eventually try to look on asian site of Logitech, maybe there's english-languaged site version, ant they offer shipping to USA

Greets :)

Optical track ball is sticking. How clean it and what to avoid?

An "optical" mouse has *NO* track-ball.

If you do have a mouse with a track-ball, then rotate the "ring" that holds the track-ball inside the mouse, to "unlock" the ring. Remove the ring. Look inside the mouse. You'll see two rollers.
Look for accumulated "gunk" in a ring at the center of each roller. Gently scrape each roller, to clean it. Re-insert the mouse. Re-insert the ring. Rotate it, to "lock" the ring into place.

Marble mouse left click isn't working well

Try this first. It worked for me.

1. flip it over
2. take out the four obvious screws
3. poke a hole in the sticker right above the "s" where "Marble Mouse" is written to find the fifth hidden screw
4. take out that hidden screw
5. gently unsnap the top from the bottom
6. clean whatever dust/dirt you find in there
7. put a small piece of tape on the bottom side of the left-click button that's not working (in my experience I'd clicked so many zillion times through the years that the plastic where the button made contact was slightly dented thereby making it to where my left-click button wouldn't work very well
8. put it all back together
9. pat yourself on the back for saving a bunch of money
10. celebrate w/ friends

My Trackman Marble FX stopped working after dealing with a virus. Never could get it to work, maybe I just wore it out. Bought a Logitech optical mouse but the left click is messed up. It locks and does a...

It could be a bad Trackman or a bad PS/2 Port.

1st test if it's the port by trying another mouse, or by trying this Trackman in another known working PS/2 port on another computer.  (don't forget to reboot each time you plug in a PS/2 device)

2nd, you can try using a PS/2 to USB adaptor.

These two have great reviews...

Marble mouse problems

I have a problem like this with the marble mouse ... relatively easy workaround for me is if I simply grab the trackball with my fingers, lift it slightly out of its cradle, and put it back down, it starts working again. It would be better if there were some way to prevent it from freezing in the first place.

I had another marble mouse a couple years ago that did not have this problem. Eventually one of its button switches went bad so I had to replace the mouse. This is the replacement.
