I have a 9 year old dco5 absolute, and have been vacuuming a lot after renovations, including small amount of fine timber dust. I cannot start it at all, even the next day. Any ideas. I think the motor may have burnt out? There were no smells from the machine Thanks

Yes your right motor burnt out. They can be replaced as I work for company who repaired vacuums. Try godfreys or some electric shop.

The hole behind the saw blade can become blocked solid with sawdust ( especially if the timber is green or wet). clean out the vacuum hose back to the collector.

Faithful Sebo X1 upright, about 12 years old, stopped working today. I replaced old with new dust bag, checked all dust paths were clear, checked main brush was clear/clean, and drive spindle rotated OK...

At 12 years, this vacuum has had a good long life. I suspect the motor is shot, but it could be due to faulty wiring and connections. A bad switch, break in the power cord, and worn brushes in the motor are other causes.
I recommend taking it to a shop for diagnosis and repair. You may be better off buying a new vacuum if the cost of repair and parts seems excessive.

Full bag light will not shut off, even after replacing with a new bag and that includes the other filter on the back. I have a lux legacy vacuum cleaner and its less than a year old. Is ther some kind of...

First, make sure the dial on top of the machine is set at the half way point. If it is, and there's a lot of fine dust in your area, try turning the dial so the large dot aligns with the arrow.
If it's less than a year old, actually less than 10, the warranty is still in effect (unless generic bags are being used). The best thing to do is call the store or consultant you bought it from and talk to them. They can pick it up, or you can take it to the Aerus Electrolux store for repair. They will also gladly answer any questions you may have about the product. It's a great machine, and investment, and needs proper care to get the most out of it.
Make sure you take your "sales agreement" with you.
There are things that will void the warranty. Using commecially, vacuuming liquids, using generic "made to fit" bags (genuine bags have "Home Solutions" printed on the top), buying on-line (E-Bay). Check your manual for others.
To find an authorized dealer near you, go to http://www.aerushome.com/storelocator/, type in your zip code, and click on "view dealer list".

Is their maintenance I need to do on my H702 central Vacumn?

H702 appears to be a Honeywell heavier duty for mid to large floor areas.I have not seen them but internally most Central vacs are VERY similar.
Most central vacs have an exposed filter which should be inspected periodically for damage or cleaning and replacement. A hanging cloth filter is normally fine for 7- 10 years with periodic inspection by the homeowner. Look for tears, never pick up wet stuff. very simple. You can clean a cloth filter prior to inspecting with the round brush from another vac or a soft paint brush.

I found internet reference to an H702 bag but it may be an option for your vac.
Some cv's have an additional or optional paper bag for allergy sufferers or removable cartridge filter which would be visible when removing the dust pail. regardless, the filter protects the motor from damage, periodically inspect when emptying. If dust gets through a damged filter it can leak into and blow a motor. As an cv ages a small degree of fine dust gets in no matter the brand, but most are fine for 10-12 years with no service.

If you see dust in the air exhausting or puffing from the vac, have the unit checked as this indicates dust which has run completely through the motor. If you see a small amount of black dust exhausting along your wall, it is normal from internal brush wear. Turn the vac on and off and listen to the motor as it winds down. If it growls or sounds scratchy or is squealing, that is an indication it needs to be serviced. Clean and inspect you pwer head every 4-6 months and change a smooth drive belt twice a year, broken or not as it will be stretched.

When I start up my year old Electrolux Loopie Petlover vacuum a large amount of dust comes out of where the HEPA filter is - can you suggest reasons?

Hello,
I would advise you to ALWAYS to FIRST UNPLUG YOUR VACUUM before beginning any service procedure. Oreck Upright 014T XL Pro 14 Upr Vac

In answer to your question, if the HEPA filter is leaking then you should replace it because it has lost it’s filtration – but my question is – is it on the Oreck, Hoover or Electrolux --- all three have HEPA filters and needs replacing and to make sure that the HEPS filter is installed correctly or other wise the filter will leak and if that happens then contact your local vac dealer in your neighborhood. So if you need further assistance, please feel free to contact your local vacuum cleaner dealer in your area or in the yellow pages, or contact the factory phone number or website to further assist you with your questions.

My 12 year old Rainbow SE suddenly began a burning odor

My 12 year old Rainbow SE suddenly began a burning...
I think the motor may have burned out. Is that something I can replace simply? Or could there be another cause for the sudden problem. It is possible someone may have used the vac w/o water, as it was sitting out when some workers were in the house doing some renovations.
Thanks, Pam Thornton

I would advise you to ALWAYS to FIRST UNPLUG YOUR VACUUM before beginning any service procedure.
You can replace the motor your self if you are mechanically minded but there are wiring problems and a gasket replacement and to also replace the spider (looks like a small bowl with vents on the side of the bowl) underneath the vacuum. It you mark the wires with tapes on each wires it can be replace but the motor is a $300.00 or better if you do it right and include the motor, gasket and spider. This price may include labor in a vacuum shop. The $300.00 is just an estimate and you would need to contact the local vacuum cleaner dealer in your area to do the replacement, it’s a good vacuum and if you like it have the motor replaced. Always use water when using the vacuum, the workers may have used the vacuum to pickup sheetrock dust of which will get into the motor and reduce the life of the Rainbow motor and will destroy any vacuum on the market, it plugs the spores of the cloth, paper and dirt cup filters of which need replacing.
