My electric freestanding stove model JBP24B0B1WH won't turn off
My electric freestanding stove model JBP24B0B1WH the oven would not turn off. had to turn off via the circuit breaker. the bake element was black (like when it is cool) except for one spot about a half in big was still bright red - this was before we turned off the circuit breaker. once cooled the element after removal we saw was distorted in that spot and has a small hole. what could have caused this? is it just an element gone bad or is something else possibly wrong?

Most of the answers are correct, the EOC (Electronic Oven Control) is either damaged or shorted. I've also seen the F1 code come up on the version 2 and 3 units when the temperature probe was shorted. But most likely your EOC is damaged and needs to be replaced. Since you didn't give us a model number we can't give you any more info. Good luck
we have a sears kenmore model and this is how we do it. remove everything from stove including the racks, close oven door, slide door lock latch to the right till it locks the door. turn knob to clean. when it is done cleaning it will turn off by itself. on some models the door latch will not slide open when done. just wait for it to cool if this is the case. it should tell on the touch pad on stove the hours that it takes to clean it. good-day !
