Motion belt slipping craftsman 2000 42" hydrostatic

I have changed both idler pulleys and new belt(Sears) 1 pully was substituted by Sears saying it was of same design and would work. Problem is worse now. I can hook my heel behind the brake/clutch pedal and pull back and it works fine. That's why I say the belt slips. Also you can hear a squeal which I didn't have before. There is no adjustment whatsoever. Just has a spring and spring is tight????

I guess old timers is kicking in. I thought I had posted the fix to my problem but guess not. After replacing the double pulley on the engine and the pulley fan combo on the transaxle I have had no more problems with the belt slipping on the motion drive. Very easy fix after you take the body off the frame(Fenders and running boards)Thanks for all the suggestions.

Irritating problem, Have you checked your rotor heads to insure there free spinning? They could be gummed up and need lubed causing high resistance against the belt.

Transmission loses power when pulling disk changed hydraulic filter motor was rebuilt year ago why im i lose power in transmission? ?

If this is a hydrostatic transmission on a lawnmower type garden tractor some power loss is expected. That just the nature of hydrostatic transmissions.

Severe slippage may not be the transmission itself but would the drive belt. These wear out over time along with the idler pulleys; especially the plastic v-idler pulleys. As the idler pulleys wear out is the same as lengthening the drive belt to a point where it slips. Even a new belt will if these pulleys are worn enough.

WHO DO YOU TIGHTEN THE MOWER DECK BELT TENSON?

Not sure of your model but you can find the Craftsman web site and get a diagram. Most of the decks I have come in contact with will use an idler type pully somewhere in the belt route that will move in or out etc. to take up slack in belt.Sometimes a spring does the job by holding a pulley against the belt so check to make sure all the pulleys are ok and all the springs are ok.Hope this helps.Rick

Fix a motion drive belt squeals on a Craftsman 24 hp 42 in. Deck Lawn Tractor - CA Model

If I understand the issue correctly, the belt that drives the machine's transmission squeals. When does it squeal? When engaging the clutch? When in motion?
Typically it's the condition of the belt. It's likely slipping due to stretch, wear or from an oil leak causing it to slip, or simply due to a loose idler pulley, worn idler pulley bearing, broken spring. Look for all that stuff. Look at the drive belt and inspect for wear, cracks, fraying, missing rubber, etc. Replace it if any of those conditions are found.

Why does my husqvarna riding tractor motion belt keep slipping off the pulleys?

They did not manufacture the pulley correct. The pulley lip is to short. What u need to do is bend the belt keeper so it just touches the belt on the idler pulley. I remove the pulley and keeper and give it a good bend. Then I adjust it into the correct position after reassembly. It doesn't have to rub on the belt.... just very close. That will do it.

I'm having trouble replaceing the motion drive belt on my LT1000 lawn tractor. The mowing deck is off, the old drive belt is off. I can't get the belt around the transaxle pully. Any suggestions?

Often there is a keeper on the back of the pulley, and the belt must go inside the keeper. Get an inspection mirror up in there to look if necessary. Start by putting the belt on the transaxle pulley, then on the PTO pulley, then on the idler, last have someone sit on the mower and depress the clutch pedal while you put the belt over that pulley.

How do you put the drive belt for the hydrostatic drive on?

You'll be working underneath the mower, so it is helpful to raise the mower chassis up -- at least in back. Use your automobile jack, then put jackstands underneath the chassis to do this. Take off the deck drive belt first by releasing the idler spring(s). Unbolt and remove the "anchor" that keeps the PTO clutch from rotating. Disconnect the electrical wires leading to the PTO. Release the tension on the idler for the hydrostatic drive belt. Now you can thread the new hydrostatic belt over the engine pulley and around both wheel motor pulleys. The idler pulley presses it inward to provide tension. Refasten the idler spring - a pair of channellock pliers works well to hold and pull the spring. Now reinstall the wires and the PTO anchor, then the mower deck belt. Good luck! Please rate my answer if helpful, thanks!

Loose belt

No, you have an idler pulley which keep tension on the belt. You may have a problem with the idler pully or the belt may be worn or the drive pully slipping.

Serpentine belt slips off idler pulley

The A/C pully is supposed to spin freely until the AC is activated to run.. The cranshaft pully does not. Replace the tensioner pully. The belt has to fit in between the grooves on the pullys.
