This wiring diagram should help you. After ensuring all of the wiring is correct, ensure all connections are clean and tight. Make sure the thermopile is properly positioned such that the pilot flame engulfs the thermopile. Test for continuity across the High Limit terminals to ensure the switch is closed and voltage is passing through it. If you continue to experience problems, replace the gas valve.

I have an imperial fryer. Pilot is on but main burners don't ignite. Pilot looks normal & thermostat clicks when turned

Number 5 is your thermopile/pilot generator. It is a pilot generator that does 2 things. It holds open the valve with a safety magnet and it operates the safety valve solenoid whenever the control stat calls for heat. Overtime they get weak and will hold the pilot but not operate the valve solenoid. I would replace that pilot generator.thermopile and party on!

How to test thermopile on Imperial IFS-40 deep fryer

Hi there.
You will be needing a dc voltmeter set at millivolt to test a thermopile.
measure the voltage across the termials of the thermopile when it is heated by the pilot flame, you should have 600 to 750 millivolt reading.
If the reading is less than 600, try cleaning it with non metal scrubbing pad and/ or try increaing the pilot flame or you have to replace it with a new one.
Try the same with your other fryers with thermopile.
You will be able to find parts at http://www.imperialrange.com

Pilot light wont stay lighted

Hi there.
Try cleaning the thermopile (cylindrical piece of metal behind the pilot) wwith a non-metal scrubbing pad. thermopile needs the heat of pilot flame to keep the pilot flame lighted as well as burners during operation.
Kindly check also if the gas has sufficient pressure.
Regards.

Pilot light wiil not stay

Check if the gas pressure is of rated pressure as stated on unit's nameplate.
Make sure that the thermopile is free of soot or any form of dirt, a clean thermopile will absorb as much heat from pilot flame as it needs to generate small amount of voltage to energize pilot and main valve coils of the gas valve.
The pilot flame quality must be good.
Hi limit must have continuity across its terminals when tested with an ohm meter.

Regards.

Hello i have a J5 lincat fryer and the pilot stays alight but the burners won't connect (light) have replaced the thermostat and the thermo couple but still no joy any ideas on this not sure what to do...

Check if there is 500 to 750 millivolts across the thermopile wires; thermopile generates 500 to 750 millivolts if properly heated to energize pilot and main valve solenoids of the gas valve for pilot and main burner operation. If the voltage across the thermopile is good and all wiring connections are ok, I think you have to replace the gas valve.
Regards.

Hi, from the above question, the problem is not with ht thermostat but with the control board. The control board fails to hold onto power when the device is heated up, that why it goes off automatically..

Take care

Hi there, it sounds like your thermopile, for the pilot, is failing during use, when this happens, the small DC voltage it generates is less than the gas valve requires to stay open, and shuts off the pilot, which shuts off the main burners. Another thing that could be happening, is the hi limit is opening prematurely, instead of shutting of the pilot at 450 deg. it now is opening at 325, or 225 or 250. Sometimes the sensing bulb gets broken where it pass's through the oil tank causing this symptom. If you temporarily bypassed the hi limit to test this also, and it still goes off, you need a thermopile. If it stays on, check your temp with a reliable thermometer, and see if it reads fairly close to your setting, if so, then you need a hi limit.
Hope that helps, and thank you.
